Once I get some money to my name, I am hoping to go to the May 27th show in Richmond, VA.

I don't really care about Opeth, but I must see Dream Theater.

I don't really care about Opeth...

For some reason, I am curious as to why not. You don't really have to justify your opinion at all, I'm just wondering what it is about Opeth that makes you not-so-enthusiastic about seeing them. They just don't hit you right?

I'm going the May 18th show in Albany.

I'll probably leave after Between the Buried and Me.

Yeah that's pretty much it. They aren't the vein of prog-metal that I enjoy.

Talented, but I just...their music doesn't do it for me.

I don't have money, either (I'm missing out on Rush this year. Yeah, its that drastic for me) so I'll be skipping this show as well. I don't care for Opeth and Dream Theater, while very awesome, is not a must see show for me. I know people that are going that I'd love to join but I can't afford it. The only show I know that I can afford is a $20 Edguy/Kamelot show in October. :-\

I WILL get those tickets. I will probably be doing something else while Dream Theater is on. There new stuff bores me. I mean really, the only album that struck me as good was Scenes from a Memory because they actually put some soul into that album.

Wow. "I must see Dream Theater" is too much, but then you top that off with not caring about Opeth? I always thought the good music was made by people who put emotion into it. Maybe I am wrong.

Or maybe good music is determined by the listener.

You should need a liscence for that sort of thing.

Yeah, because people that have different musical tastes from yourself are retarded. I know, I know, story of the internet.

This doesn't have to do with taste. I just don't see how mindless shredding is better to listen to then death metal that goes into intricate acoustic passages.

It has EVERYTHING to do with taste. I'd rather listen to mindless shredding than any death metal. Look, I disagreed with you based on taste!

Because:

1) All Dream Theater is not 'mindless shredding'. See "Forsaken", "These Walls", "Endless Sacrifice", "Octavarium", I could go on.

2) I have heard Opeth's material. I just do not like it. Period.

Why is that so hard for you to wrap your head around?

Opeth are certainly more original then Dream Theater. That is why.

Originality does not always equal good music.

And even if Opeth are a 'good' band, that doesn't mean I have to like them.

I can understand your questioning, I too love Opeth, and appreciate their work. But like he said he doesn't have to like them. He can't decide who he likes and dis likes.

Although JoZ you may have heard their heavier stuff, there is actually a whole different mellow acoustic/progressive etc. side of them.

If for some reason you haven't checked any of that stuff out, Youtube "Lamentations bonus dvd" ...if you want.

I am not so much asking if he likes them, but more why he doesn't care about them. Care and like are two different words.

The JoZ not liking Opeth but instead liking Dream Theater is something I could've guessed quite easily.
