Aliens and religion. Where do you stand?

Yes, this is somewhat of a "do u beleve in aleins lol" thread. But, I'm more interested in the religious outlook on this. According to the Bible, God created man in his image and he created the earth and the heavens and so forth. So, do you believe that he could have created another planet with "human" life on it? Back in my god-fearing days, I somewhat entertained the belief that we were sort of God's failure and that maybe there were other planets with human life on that God was hoping would do better then us. And if you believe that God created us and us alone then why did he created such a large universe? Are the stars just a bunch of pretty lights for us to look at night? Or is there some other meaning to why he created all this other planets but never bothered to put anything on them?

And, for all the other atheists in the forum, please feel free to add your own thoughts/ideas.

Well if the universe is infinite or we live in some crazy world of infinite parallel universes then life on other planets seem inevitable.

Our species's chance emergence on this planet via the lottery of evolution, and the mind-bending and stupendous vastness of space, have rendered as ridiculous any claims of our having been specifically created by some higher power. The evolutionary process proves that we weren't purposefully created; indeed, we emerged, essentially, by chance. The vastness of the cosmos, dizzyingly huge, cold and unfeeling - all those countless failed solar systems and unstable galaxies and barren planets unable to support life- point to the singular certainty that none of it was built with any real plan or purpose. Whatever the meaning of the Universe, if there even is one, it's got absolutely nothing to do with us- that much is painfully clear. How contemptibly arrogant to imagine otherwise.
