A lack of Pink Floyd and Radiohead disappoints me.

Rules are cut and dry. You get one vote. It's pretty easily enforced.

I'm too lazy to provide band info, and besides, these are your favorite bands.

The spread is Metallica by 3 1/2.

By the way, votes are made private because of possible influences in voting, and I am actually abstaining for now because of a lack of a band that stands out to me.

You can discuss your choice if you wish, but you can choose to just discuss the current results and remain anonymous.

I love ALL of the bands on that list so now its down to counting who has more songs that I like... It's going to be a toss up between Coheed and Zeppelin.

Someone needs to break the tie and push Coheed into the lead. :D

Someone needs to break the tie

Okay, fixed!

In all seriousness, I'm not a fan of Coheed. Voted Tool because it's the only one I still listen to today. Their songs from 10,000 days are as good as their songs from The Undertow and any in between.

I gotta go with Co & Ca... after seeing them live, and planning to go AGAIN, the musicianship and showmanship I see there AMAZES me... their latest CD: No World For Tomorrow... was one of my faves of the year, and I just found a vintage Gibson Explorer, natural, so I can use it with my band when we play Coheed covers:-)
I just finished learning In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth yay! and Faint of Hearts!

Yeah, Tool's the winner. Congradulation etc.

Well, apparently GW's two favorite albums are Zep IV and Master of Puppets, and their favorite band is Tool.

I'm not too keen on meeting their last.fm neighbors.

New topic of discussion...should I do one of these for songs? Since it's such a broad subject, it might be kind of interesting.

Spiner202
February 2nd, 2008, 08:47 AM
Well first I have to say, MoP and Zep IV (keep in mind I hate Led Zepplin) are cool to have as favorite albums, but seriously, wtf on the Tool. I've heard them multiple times, and there is nothing that really appeals to me and I can't see the appeal to anyone. I don't want to start a Tool war, but I just can't understand how they can be the favorite band with bands like Rush & Iron Maiden up there.

As for doing one for songs, go for it, but I do think it would be much too hard. It wouldn't surprise me to see the same albums start having multiple songs in it by the end.

JoetheShow
February 2nd, 2008, 10:23 AM
Well, I think in a lot of cases that great songs don't necessarily come from your top 5 albums. There will be some repeats but I think we'll get a WIDE variety.

It's a little thing called musical preference. Most of the bands on the list were either love 'em or hate 'em bands. Most people probably are aware of how this is for Rush, as people either think they're amazing or can't stand them. Just as Tool doesn't appeal to you, the other bands don't appeal to other people. It's not that I hate any of the bands on the list, but Tool was the only band that I have the full discography of and never will get tired of. Therefore they got my vote.

Spiner202
February 2nd, 2008, 11:07 AM
But if you look at the options on the list, Rush, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Led Zepplin, you'd think that people would like one of those bands more then Tool because in all fairness those are some of the most famous/most loved bands ever and I find it amazing that they are overtaken by Tool, and Coheed.

You have to look at the demographic of the site. The majority that use this site are in their teens (how ironic for me to say that) and while it's true that some teens like classic rock, it's far easier to see that more modern bands like Tool and Coheed would be popular. If it were a site populated by mostly thirty and forty-year olds you bet there'd be a lot of questioning of who the hell Tool and Coheed were.

WTF d00ds?
February 2nd, 2008, 12:37 PM
Tool aren't that new. They've been around for about 10-15 years now. And thank god they won. I don't think I could continue to be a member here if coheed won. What the hell are a coheed and a cambria anyway?

Also, Fireking- a favorite songs topic might be too massive to keep track of. If you let people nominate 5 songs like you did with the bands and albums threads, you'd probably end up having a few hundred songs nominated. I'd say just have people nominate 1 or 2 songs if you do it.

What about a favorite guitarist thread?

Tequila Sunrise

It's not like this forum gets that much traffic, so I say why not have a song competition. Although I do predict mostly metal and classic rock songs making the cut, it could be interesting.

The favorite guitarist was also a consideration, but eh.

I may do the Song one soon, but with school and whatever, you may not see it for a while.

WTFdoods: How could you get up-in-arms about a band winning that you've never heard of? The title was most popular album so the outcome can disappointing but not really disputed. I based my vote on who has the most songs I enjoy because I like all of the bands. It went like this:

1. Coheed
2. Zeppelin
3. Tool
4. Rush
5. Iron Maiden
6. Metallica

I'd actually like to see position ones before songs, since songs are going to have a million different ones just like the end of the year awards.

I said modern, not new. But even with Tool and Coheed being from the early 90s they still don't really have anything on age with Rush, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, etc.

Coheed and Cambria are both locations... I've heard streets and I've heard neighborhoods in california somewhere...
