It's from director Danny Boyle (28 Days Later...) and Cilian Murphy stars in it again as well (28 Days Later..., Red Eye).
I wanted to see it badly in theaters as I love Danny Boyle but it was incredibly limited and never came to a theater around here so I didn't get a chance to.
I just rented it and watched it. I am kicking myself for never having seen it in theaters. It was absolutely amazing. The storyline, the effects, characterization, acting, cinematography, writing, everything, I mean, it was just wow.
I dunno, I have never been that awed by a movie right after having seen it. Generally it takes a few watches for me to really like it, but, that.... that was just incredible.
Has anyone else seen it? If so, what did you think?

I saw it when it was still in the cinema. I wouldn't say I was absolutely in awe of it, but I thought it was very good and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just different in the way that it handled the threats to the crew, and was very effective in the way that it did so. There really hasn't been a movie like it (in terms of genre and style) in a long time, so if the idea appeals I'd certainly recommend watching it.

Yeah, I dunno, there's something about it that really really appealed to me greatly. Maybe it's being a film major and seeing all the subtle things and themes and cinematography and, I dunno what, I just loved that movie.
It's kinda weird, but like I said, I really liked this movie greatly.

I thought it was great. There's too many things I liked about it to list here, but I liked seeing the guy from The Last Samurai. I think his name was Kaneda? I dunno, but I'll have to get the DVD when payday comes.

From the moment they first released the trailer to it I was already in love with it. I saw it opening night and was absolutely blown away by it. All the characters have a lot of depth to them, the plot was fantastic and the special effects.. Oh, man.. they looked so good. Danny Boyle outdid himself again.
I highly suggest this movie to anyone that hasn't seen it. At least humor me and watch the trailer.
And, all this bad press about this movie ripping off Event Horizon is so ridiculous. They don't even come close to being similar. They have maybe two or three parellels. But then all movies that take place on spaceships have them.
Anyways. Sunshine is a spectacular movie and is more then worth the time of any science fiction fan.
And I've got to say my favorite scene was when Kaneda stays behind to die and Searle is keeps shouting to him on the radio. Does anyone else think that given enough time Searle would have ended up like Pinbacker?

If you notice, as the movie progresses, he seems to be peeling or having skin cancer or something was going on with him. I've heard people saying they think the power of the Sun is equivalent to some sort of drug, as they all seem to become obsessed and addicted to it.

Well I certianly think it had some sort of effect. Yeah, actually you could call it a drug. The crew of Icarus I, Searle and even Kaneda to an extent become what you could call addicted to losing themselves in the sun's brilliance. I think Searle said "it was like bathing light." And both Searle's and Pinbacker's burns came from watching the sun in the viewing rooms with the shields as low as they could go. The shields didn't just block light, it blocked the heat too.

Funny the psych officer is the one most obsessed with it, huh? But, anyway, it's also apparent with Cassie and Capa's dreams about the surface of the sun. I think the only part I got confused on was I thought Cappa had jumped from the Icarus to the surface of the sun but suddenly he was inside the bomb.
