is there anyway to get this item besides wild toxicraok/croagunk in the great marsh?
if not, does anyone have any tips on finding toxicroak/croagunk...i rarely see them in the marsh, even when the binoculars say they're there

I don't think so, but Leftovers do exactly the same thing. Black Sludge is mainly used for dumb Item Clause matches, which are dumb.

Keep in mind, Black Sludge only has the "Leftovers" effect for Poison types (Weezing being the best example). If put on a non-poison type, Black Sludge actually takes HP away.

If you have Ruby or Sapphire, you can get a bunch of Shell Bells, which restore HP a little each turn. They aren't as good as Leftovers, but the bell is still better than nothing.

Actually the Shell Bell only restores HP if you deal your opponent damage.

For a Poison type, Black Sludge is actually a little better than Leftovers, because it hurts non-poison item stealers.

wouldn't it be good on breeloom too b/c of toxic heal or whatever?

Black Sludge doesn't inflict poison, so it wouldn't activate Poison Heal. So, instead, Breloom would be losing health.
Besides, Toxic Orb + Poison Heal is the best healing option Breloom has.

Well, you could GTS-clone your Leftovers if you're desperate, otherwise I think catching Toxicroak is the way to go. Good luck.

How many times did you let the clock spin?

I think it depends on the speed of your connection.

I beleive that when the clock spins 7.5 times turn off your game.

For me, it's 9.5 to 10, but my internet is the absolute minimum speed. Basically, run the test once without turning your DS off and see how long it takes for the ball to appear. Subtract .5 a clock and try until it works.
