So first, apologies for my lack of knowledge of this game. I stopped playing when I lost my Ruby/Silver, but recently, my boyfriend bought me a DS and pokemon Diamond as an early Christmas present (I know, best boyfriend ever). Problem is, I have to raise a new team from scratch to play against around 10 people, and my boyfriend is apparently undefeated in that circle. So while I need a well-rounded team, of most importance is countering his team:

Garchomp
Umbreon
Togekiss - thunder wave, air slash
Gardevoir - hypnosis, dream eater, focus blast
Snorlax - rest, sleep talk, earthquake
Milotic - aqua ring, recover, surf, ice beam

Irritating, as I was originally planning on using more than half of these on my own team.. It's worth noting that he might make this a trick room team in the future.

I'm pretty nervous about this team, but I didn't want to fight with a team of pure OU. So in order, I was thinking of a team involving the following:

Alakazam - psychic, hidden power ice (for garchomp, would that be a 1HKO?), trick (against a team built for self-healing, tricking a choice item sounds nice), focus blast

Drapion - night slash, knock off, brick break, toxic spikes (although I'm wondering if I can spend two turns setting it up). I know he's a bit average, but I'm fairly set on using him.

Garchomp - Don't rip me apart here, but I wanted to use him in an unorthodox manner: stealth rock, roar, earthquake, something else. With a fast nature. I know he's meant as a physical sweeper, but I thought this might be a bit harder to counter with his team.

Vaporeon - no idea what to do here. Can't decide what buffs to get, whether to make him a baton passer at all.

This is where my trouble comes in. Can't decide on the remainder of the team:

Dragonite - I loves me some dragon, and I like him more than Salamence. Inner focus would defend against Togekiss's flinch-spamming.

Tyranitar - sandstream could play up garchomp's ability.

Rhyperior - immune to togekiss's thunder wave, like his rock head. but my boyfriend mainly uses special attacks... I suppose sandstorm's +special defense wouldn't save rhyperior?

crobat/persian - quick hypnosis, U-turn out of there if up against something icky. if I toxic spikes, though, hypnosis won't work, right?

Dusknoir - this might just be a good idea if other people I play against have spinners. Also, pressure might help against the bf's stall tactics.

gyarados, weavile, kingdra, flygon (all previous favorites)

There are probably more I forgot. Anyone have any advice they'd like to offer?

a few things id like 2 mention:
-if u use tyranitar's sandstream to play into your garchomp's ability, be aware that it will also play into your boyfriend's garchomp's ability.
-for garchomp: a speed nature is good, but keep in mind that roar will always move second, no matter the speed.
-for vaporeon: your best bet is making this guy a wish passer. Im not sure the exact moveset, but it involves wish and baton pass (:duh: )
-it is possible that your boyfriend's garchomp can do well with a choice band. So, to counter, your alakazam is a good idea. Just make sure you give him a speed nature and a FOCUS SASH!! Alakazam can kill that garchomp in one hit most likely with HP (ice), but it cannot take hits (believe me, i have personal experience). The garchomp will leave alakazam at one, giving him the opportunity to kill him.
-give yourself a weavile. You need a full on sweeper:
weavile@choice band
jolly/adament nature
-ice punch
-AA
-brick break
-night slash

-have you thought of getting a blissey or skarmory? They are very effective walls that your team needs. I guess, with sandstorm, rhyperior could be a fairly good wall...
-overall, your team is really good. Where did you get the idea that you dont know anything about pokemon?:D

Hey, thanks for the advice. That's true, I forgot about his garchomp. And I did not know about roar always going second, I suppose that's true of whirlwind too..?

Weavile does sound nice, but I'm worried that a 1HKO will be impossible against any in his team, so I'm looking for staying power too. Perhaps something with taunt + roost/recover?
