Startling evidence has been found which shows mammoth and other great beasts from the last ice age were blasted with material that came from space. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7130014.stm)
Neat.
Now, if they could only get around to tying down the exact date...

Indeed, an accurate dating would allow us to work out whether the mass extinctions of the Ground Sloths and Mammoths might have been related to this space debris. Anything that gets people researching giant mammals who have only relatively recently gone extinct is always welcome. Although they are not as imbedded in our collective psyche as the dinosaurs, I've always found extinct giant mammals to be just as fascinating.

It seems more and more interesting discoveries are constantly made. I wonder sometimes just how long certain beasts as such have been extinct, wether it be the tens of thousands years ago or even in the hundreds of years ago in which they claim to remaining parts and pieces age to be. And most importantly wether or not some of these theories they conclude with the reason as to why the species went extinct could possibly someday happen again, like the 'space material' for example.
