Quake 3 Arena Cheats

I got some cheats like, /give all and that, but i don't know how to make them work.
It says to press ~ , then that opens up a console, then you use the cheats in the console.
What key is that? the one near the ENTER key? Do i have to press shift+~, to make it work?
Please can someone help.

its the tilde key

its right about the tab key.

that key opens the console in pretty much every game where you are allowed to open the console by default.
