UFC announced yesterday that Brock Lesnar's first fight would be on February 2nd (A.K.A. Groundhog's day, A.K.A. my anniversary) against former UFC heavyweight Champion Frank Mir.
Mir at one time was a dominate champion until an unfortunate motorcycle accident ended his reign. Although he has come back, he has certainly lost a few steps. What do you think of this match up?
(UFC is calling it a "Superbowl Showdown'. That's a bit of an overstatement.)

Well, this is definitely a dangerous match-up for Brock. Mir shouldn't be much of a threat on the feet, so that's one area Brock won't really have to worry about, but it'll be interesting to see how he fares on the ground with a good submission guy after he gets the inevitable takedown. No way in hell Brock passes guard and gets full mount so easily like he did against Min Soo Kim. I'm predicting either Brock wins a lay n' pray decision or Mir gets the sub, and I'm leaning towards the latter.

You shoulda titled this as "Lesnar to get killed again Mir"
No way Lesnar will win against this vet.

ou have more faith in Mir than I do. The last few fights I saw Mir in, he was gassed in the first round.

If Brock is training properly, (especially in sub defense) he should win this fight. I think Brock will be able to power out of most sub attempts from Mir and GnP his way to a stoppage or decision.
