Quick question: What is the difference? They both have the same effect, and I don't know which one to use.

I believe if u catch one with bait they like you more.

If I recall correctly, Bait keeps them around longer but lowers catch rate, while Mud raises catch rate but also raises the chances of them fleeing.
I could be completely off, though.

You're correct, Rick52. Also, I prefer using mud, because that way, I probably won't end up spending all my balls into a single Pokémon that might later choose to flee, anyway. Even if it is a rare Pokémon, I use mud. Or combinations of mud and bait.

That was true in past games. However, man in the Great Marsh claims both bait and mud do the same thing (which is higher catch-rate, but higher flee rate).
