View Full Version : Too soon still?

In West Australia, born and raised.
In the ocean, that's where I spent most of my days.
Chillin out, maxin; relaxin all cool,
stroking some stingrays inside the pool.
When a couple of crocs who were up to no good,
started making trouble in Australia Zoo.
I got one little sting, and Terri got scared;
"you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air"...
I whistled for a boat and when it came near,
the licence plate said fresh and had dice in the mirror.
If anything, I'd say that this boat was rare,
but I said man forget it, yo captain to Bel Air.
I pulled up to the docks about seven or eight
and I yelled to the captain yo holmes smell ya later.
Looked at the sting ray
he had beaten me there.
I sit on my grave as the crocodile hunter

He did! He only misspelled one word. Like you! At least is two words.
Once again, though, joke fails beyond belief.
EDIT: And if my post is taken in any way other than a joke, it's supposed to be a joke. Sorry if you do think differently. :\

Yes, it is still too soon.
Jokes about Steve Irwin don't even deserve a rating.

Clearly this was inspired by the Chris Benoit rap using the same song. Unfortunately it just didn't work. Certain bits didn't rhyme when they should have, and all in all the lyrics were weak. Added to the fact that you've got sensitive subject matter and you don't really come away with much merit.

Did I miss something about Steve Irwin?
Sure, he died in ridiculous manner, but he made a living out of extremely dangerous stunts (as I call them) to prove that he has a connection with animals...
I think it was about time he got killed by something already...
I don't understand why some folks put him on some God like pedestal...
Why is a joke about a man who kills his family in a psychotic rage funny, while a man who brings about his own demise for entertainment not funny?
Yeah, joke wasn't that great, but it took some courage to post it here...

You might find the reason why he has such widespread praise is because of his work as a conservationist. He did an awful lot of good in that role. He didn't risk his life for kicks. He did so to raise awareness for real issues involving animals and the environment, and succeeded to a significant degree.
Besides, I didn't say that the joke wasn't funny because of the sensitive subject matter. I was implying that due to the sensitive subject matter the joke probably needs a higher threshold in order to be considered funny.

Because the joke about the man who killed his family in a psychotic rage actually had clever lyrics, and hence even though it was very black humour people found it funny. This particular joke simply didn't work.

I understand what you're saying, I made a thread in the POK for this issue actually...
I find it strange that both of these stories are tragedies, but only one is seen as funny while the other is not...
And I'm going as for to include any media or entertainment as well, that few find the Steve Irwin situation funny, while Benoit can been taken lightly for some odd reason...

I disagree that people find the Chris Benoit tragedy funny. There is nothing inherently funny about either event, as indeed they are tragedies. But there are always jokes in the vein of black humour that go around after events like this. Happened with the Twin Towers, New Orleans, Steve Irwin's death, and everything in between. Does it mean that people find those events funny? No, it means that people find the jokes funny. The two are not the same.
I found the Chris Benoit rap funny because it was clever and worked. Not because I find it funny that Chris Benoit killed his family. Equally I don't think this joke is funny because it is poorly constructed and makes no sense, not because I will inherently never laugh about anything to do with Steve Irwin. Indeed, there were jokes going around after his death that I did laugh at. I think you're reading too much into this.

Maybe I am (70 hour work weeks do that to you), but I'm going further than this particular joke. Most websites dedicated to so called black humor post a Steve Irwin joke to become ridiculed at a far higher rate than most other would be tasteless jokes...
You're an educated individual, and I understand your point quite clearly, but I'm still distraught over the fact that one's opinion is already concluded by the title of the would be joke... perhaps it's a point to hero worship... maybe not...

Most websites dedicated to so called black humor post a Steve Irwin joke to become ridiculed at a far higher rate than most other would be tasteless jokes...That's just the way it is. There are always those who disapprove of black humour, just as there are those who find it hilarious. I can understand why people find black humour offensive and/or inappropriate just as I understand how people find it funny.

Perhaps I was unclear. I didn't prejudge this joke in any way. I didn't like the joke because it was poorly constructed, not because of the subject matter. I was just observing that people are likely to be more critical of a joke that isn't funny when the subject matter is sensitive.

Could someone provide a link or tell me where to find the Benoit rap?
I know if you type in "Chris Benoit Tribute" on YouTube, you can find 3 cartoons that parody the Benoit tragedy. The way he makes fun of his death isn't funny but the things he adds on to it make it funny. It's similar to what Crazy Jamie is talking about.
Some people will find it offensive. Either they don't know how to take a joke, or they don't have a sense of humor. I think that some people here just don't know how to take a joke.
