So whos going to bother?
I finally watched the third the other day, the second sucked so bad it took me a while to get round to it but I gotta say it was a massive improvement so yes I will take a look at the fourth

Really? I kind of liked the second one. Loved the ending. Well, I love all the endings to the Saw movies. But, I can see where you're coming from Saw 3 did have better traps. But, will I see Saw 4? Yes. In the theatres? No.

I really liked both the first and second movies, though haven't got round to watch the third yet. As such the fourth will probably have to wait. I've enjoyed the series thus far though, so will probably get round to watching them eventually.

I was actually tripping for the 2nd one which may not have helped but still it didnt seem very good at all, the other night I said to my friend if this (referring to the 3rd) also sucks then the series ends here for me but thankfully my faith was restored.

Saw is already scheduled to have at least a fifth and sixth installment, and I believe Tobin Bell is contracted for both. I don't know about having all these sequels though. I was a fan way before all the hype when I watched Saw I the day it came out and was blown away. Since then I've gone to see both sequels the days they came out and haven't been disappointed yet. Although the third one seemed to be slipping away from what first drew me to the series. The first one was more of a psychological thriller than a gorefest but now they just seem to go for shock value. Saw IV could make or break the series for me and determine if I'm going to keep faith in the series or just ignore it from now on.

Well, Saw is the new generation of Friday The 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies. How many movies were made for each of those series? Jason got.. what? At least ten, I think. And, Freddy got 8 or so. I have yet to be disappointed with Saw, so I'm looking forward to the 4th installment and if that's good? Then I'll be right there to watch the 5th.

Unfortunately, that's one of the worst things about sequels. You have a great first movie, but when you make sequels, they just all go down hill. Like the Hills Have Eyes.
Anyways, I looked up this movie long ago on Wiki, and they are making a fifth and sixth installment (much to my disappointment), and hopefully everyone doesn't get really upset, but...
The detective from the second movie is still alive...

What? He is? I could have sworn I remember Amanda killing him in a flashback during Saw 3. Isn't that one of the main reasons Jigsaw said she failed him? Because she just wanted to kill people and not allow them to save themselves. You know, because she set everyone one up to die and gave them no chance to escape.

That was a remake you know. The original was much, much better.

They never explicitly showed him dying. In fact, they never even explicitly say she killed him in particular. Amanda did enough in the third movie for Jigsaw to drop her other than that anyway.

You want digusting? Read Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. That book is 21 layers of wrong. Still was a damn good read, though. :chuckle:
But, that's why horror movies like Saw or Hostel have such a draw to them. They're very, very gory and vile and they depict scenes of extreme pain, torture and death. And, lots of people enjoying watching it. I sure do. But then I'm somewhat unstable as it is. :link:

No, they haven't. Movies only come out on certain days of the week and every Saw has come out on a Friday. Release dates for Saw I-IV have been the 29th, the 28th, the 27th and the 26th respectively. That's this Friday, by the way. Unfortunately the earliest I'll be able to see it is the 30th, so I'll have to be sure to avoid this thread for spoilers until then.

I was done with the saw series the minute I watched the second one. The first was original... but the rest are just like the first... a bunch of death traps and oh boy, a plot twist.... its not a twist anymore if you know it's coming.

Huh.....thats odd. I could've sworn that that was a big gimmic(sp) about the Saw series. I never looked in to it or anythin'. But you're right, movies are only realeased on certain days. Thats had me wonderin' right after I typed that above.

I only know because I went to see each of the last three on opening night and this year I'll be unable to. However, if they decide to release another Saw next year (right now it's still up in the air as to whether they'll skip next year) then it can be released on October 31 since next year is a leap year.

Which also means the year AFTER that can be done on the 31st too.
Movies only come out on Fridays...some tuesdays, and the occasional holiday.

Uh... no. Since there are 365 days in a year every date gets moved forward one day from year to year (except for leap year, when it goes forward two days.) So in 2009, October 31st will be a Saturday. Also, in the US movies mainly come out on Friday, with the occasional Wednesday release and a very rare Saturday or holiday release. The more you know :P
In Saw news, apparently select cities are showing all three Saws tonight followed by Saw IV at midnight. I wish there was a theater near me doing that :(

I watched SAW IV last night and was both very impressed and utterly confused. I have loved all of the SAW movies and this is no exception. It really reveals a lot about John Kramer (Jigsaw) and reveals why he does what he does. It, for me anyway, actually makes me feel sympathy for him and feel that he is doing the right thing by putting people in these traps. I am utterly confused by the ending however, so if anyone knows:
How does that "double time-line" work. I mean they cut the tape out of John yet the final confrontation occurs as John is still on the SAW III operating table. Are there 2 Jigsaws (A doll and a real one), or is the first autopsy scene really the last events of the movie (i.e. the start of SAW V)? Anyway, I think the whole "No honey, you can't save them, only they can save themselves" thing is brilliant and again the traps were awesome.
Can't wait for SAW V!

To answer Darth-gamer...
Yes, it was the beginning of Saw V. That detective, as shown, was basically the new helper to Jigsaw for this one. He walks away from that scene, and probably leads the police to that building, considering he knows that's where it all went down. They find everyones body, and thus Jigsaw was on the autopsy table. But, Jigsaw is testing him now, and that's where Saw V will begin.
As for my opinion on the movie...
They kill everyone who matters, and I have no interest in the series anymore. The first one was the best, and I feel they got considerably worse after that, with the exception of 3 being better than 2. 4 sucked the most.

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured. And as for disliking it, I see a lot of people did not like any of them after SAW I, but me, I loved the way the stories tied in and how you learned more about each character in each sequential movie. I mean did you notice [spoiler]Gus (Magnum eye hole) in John and his wife's clinic, as well as Addision (wrist box trap)?)
EDIT:I don't know why the spoiler tag didn't work, if a mod can fix that that would be great.

This movie is going to redefine the horror genre.
The cinematography and story were simply gold.

I wouldn't say gold.
First Saw was epic.
Second was good, but it was more of a 'movie' than Saw, which I could see as... A short story, I suppose. The second had too many characters.
Third was balls. Over-the-top-gore. But, a gem, because you only realise its importance after seeing Saw IV.
Fourth was... Okay. Too many plotlines. And it's not that the plotlines were useless, or that they didn't tie-up(other than the twist at the end. I must have missed something while I was off at the bathroom for like 2 apparent vital minutes- Edit- I just read a few posts above. Sweet.), it was that they were weak. It's hard to write like 4 GOOD solid storylines and not completely ruin what you're trying to do, which is tell a single story.
I dunno.

To each his own; All great movies don't even just one single story with closure. Saw isn't designed to have closure it is designed to make you think. Take away the gore and these are amazing movies. The stories explore a whole other side of human emotions that no one has dared tried.

I was confused as well Darth Gamer.
I saw it Friday when it was released. I have mix feelings on it but overall I enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of the Saw series so I will see the future Saws. I liked how they showed the anger within Jigsaw after his "baby" died.

I saw it on Friday, and I thought it was not as good as the first, better than the second, and probably right on line with the third.
I also liked how they went back to the beginning of Jigsaw and the stuff he did, it was really interesting.

Saw IV made a 'killing' at the box office with 32.1 million dollars. However, I quoted something that may be of interest...
Paul Dergarabedian says, "I would expect to see Saw V next year, Saw VI the next year, and SawVII the following year.
After reading that last part...I nearly banged my head on the wall...DAMMIT!!!!!
