Alright, there has been a bit of discussion that if a vampire met a werewolf who would win, to clear up the first set of questions... we're talking awesome vampires, Kain, Anne Rice type vampires not Buffy type vampires. Werewolves go the same way, this isn't teen wolf. Now as for the 2nd part of variables, these aren't "first day" vampires or werewolves, they've been that way let's say at least 5 years so they're familiar with what they can do. We're going to be under the assumption that it's a chance meeting so the werewolf doesn't have a super garlic soaked, crucifix bearing, heart seeking, holy water silver bullet (even though many argue most/all of those things don't matter anyway) and yes, it's a full moon. Who wins and why?

I'm going to guess that I'm the only person in all of GW who's read the Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse books by Stephenie Meyer (okay, maybe not ONLY, but one of the few) and this topic is brought up often. Since experience is brought into play, that makes a difference.
However, if it's one on one it's going to be close. I would go with vampires, honestly.

I'm going to guess that I'm the only person in all of GW who's read the Дозор books by Сергей Лукьяненко (okay, maybe Olga has read them too) and this topic is brought up, kinda.
I would go with vampires, honestly. They have a much higher potential.

Semi-rabid imbecilic canines or the Prince of Darkness? That's a hard one...

in terms of brute strength...probably the werewolf.
but since this is fantasy...that'd be my guess.

I'd say the werewolf b/c they have much more agility and are able to run quite fast so that they can catch their prey, typical in a hunting animal, and b/c the werewolf is adapted to the world outside, it can easily take more damage b/c of it's hide and muscle. It is a pure hunting machine, and has all of the right tools. Vampires on the other hand are more domain creatures, where they are designed to keep hold in one area, more commonly, closed, indoor ares. They either lure their prey in, or they go hunt for it, but they are not as agile or cunning as a werewolf in terms of hunting.
So my choice lies with the lycan.

What strengths do vampires exactly have? I think a werewolf would win, they just seem to be far superior physically.

Yeah, thats what I was saying. In a direct, no holds barred contest, the werewold would win. But knowing the cunning and deception of a vampire, he'll probably think of something to pull an upset win.

Why is that when I saw this topic the first book I thought of was Facebook?

The mixture of amusement and wonder at the subject matter? That's why it's open, anyway.

Care to add Zombies and Pirates to the list?
This would appear to be something of a brains vs brawn battle. Whilst vampires are generally stronger and faster than humans, they are neither as strong nor as fast as werewolves. As such, as has already been stated, a straight stand off would surely be a werewolf victory. However, vampires do not rise in stature by use of their muscles. They are intelligent and cunning, and in that sense I would actually give the vampire the edge.

Vampires have hands capable of wielding silver bullet firing sub-automatic machine guns, so you've really got to think that they've got the advantage. They can also turn into bats just when the werewolves are about to bite them in the arse, allowing them to flee and regroup.

But haven't you seen Underworld? Werewolves can removed a silver bullet from their flesh, as long as it hasn't pierced any major organs.

Or if it's liquid. See the problem for werewolves is there loss of most control when in werewolf form. It's all anger and feral rage, where as vampires are cold, calculated sons of bitches. I really think the vampires win in a one on one fight, a vampire might not be able to take two or three werewolves by themselves (at least not an average one) but one on one, it's no contest in my mind. Vampire, everytime.

Vampire, of course. Since you know, they can even turn into bats! :D I mean, how would a werewolf get a bat that's say, ten feet in the air, then when the werewolf faints due to exahstion, the vampire will bite it, so then the werewolf will be a werepire, so ultimately, the werewolf will win, since it'll have bat wings.

If you know anything about were wolves you know they can jump extremely high vertical distances in split seconds.

Alright, how about forty feet in the air? Sixty? Ah well, the principle still stands, the werewolf will ultimately win, but the vampire will win the fight. :D :P

If you listed the pros and cons of both, you will see that Vampires will win. You can't beat the teleport-like agility they have, hypnosis, ability to hide in shadows, ability to change into bats, the above-normal strength they get and the ability to turn you into a ghoul. Most of this was from common abilities of Vampires and the anime Hellsing.

I've fallen in love with a vampire, so I'm a bit biased. But they're cooler anyway.

The ability of hypnosis for a vampire only works when the victim is still clear in mind and very conscious. Werewolves are full of rage at the moment, so they can't think straight, the only thing that comes into mind is kill and eat anything nearby that moves. It is driven by the want of fresh meat, which overpwers the hypnosis.
Vampires really can't hide in shadows, they don't have that ability, they either use their speed, hypnosis, or turn into a bat, for bats are capable of blending with shadows, and are only discovered by their screeching. And another thing, hypnosis doesn't mean that theyv'e entranced you, that's just one form. Other forms invlove decieving the victim by making them think of different things, such as different enviroment, whether food is infront of them or not and so forth.
With the bats, they change into large bats, not into tiny ones that are 1/6 of their size, that's impossible, even for them. That's like, magic right there. They transform into bats that are their size, nothing bigger, nothing smaller.
Their strength is nothing compared to a werewolf either, for vampires are biologically designed to play mind tricks and trick their victims, while werewolfs are made for the hunt. Vampires can't stand up against a werewolf for they don't even compare in strength. think of it like this, if you were to rate strength, we'll give the vampire ***, ok. Werewolves will be ******** out of a 10 star rating system.
In terms of agility, vampire has the werewolf, have to admit, for they both have good agility, but vampires are able to counter many attacks coming to them, but the only thing that could get them, is timing, which the werewolf has. The are beast made for hunt, and as a predator, they need timing in order to obatin there prey.
Thus, all in all, the werewolf in a 1-on-1 match. Information from common sense, Underworld, Van Helsing, and other sources.

Well I have read so many books on this subject. It seems that all other things decide the fate of the battle. If it was head to head a werewolf would destroy a vampire, but it also depends on the setting of the battle. If it is in a forest at night it is no duh that the vampire would win because they can hide and use their stealth to overcome the brute strength of the werewolf. If they were fighting on a plain or a rocky mountain a werewolf's overall agility and strength would destroy a vampire.
So bassicaly it all depends on all the other variables.
Cody.

I agree with Wej.
It would ultimately depend on where they were fighting, meaning the enviroment around them. I could see the werewolf defeating the vampire in multiple different ways by using the enviroment as an advantage, but I can also imagine the vampire using its ablities to get around the werewolf and defeat it by using the background around him in many different ways as well. I think its an even fight, and that it would take one lucky shot from either the vampire or the werewolf to win.
But if this were going off of strength, the werewolf would win hands down. If this were to go off of agility, the vampire would win hands down. Like mentioned they each have there positives and negatives.

Actually werewolfs are much more agile than vampire's. Oh and Underworld is a good movie, but not very good to base info on these monsters from. If a werewolf is hit with a silver bullet anywhere besides a vital organ he slowly dies because the silver is like poison.

Yea, I think the Vampire might win in an enclosed area, while werewolves can win in larger areas in general.

No a werewolf would win in any enclosed area because the vampire couldn't move around. A vampire would win in a dark place with alot of cover so he can be stealthy.

I'm tempted to cite the fact that you're using fictional films open to director/writer interpretation as hard evidence, but then I realised you're arguing about a pissing contest between werewolves and vampires. So yeah I'm going to stay out of this one.
