ok, i just got the nintendo ds along with pokemon pearl. i was woundering if you could play online with players around the world. or is it just people close to you. I knoe that the psp is online playable and want to know it the ds is the same

yes you can battle other trainers. you need to go downstairs in the pokemon center. there will be a person blocking the stairs until you are able to access that area.

you have to be near a wireless connection right?

yes or one of your own all you have to do is register that wireless router and anytime your nearby you have wifi connection.
