Smash Release Date Confirmed
Nintendo sets a US release date for Brawl's 2008 launch.
by Bozon
October 11, 2007 - After Nintendo's Japan announcement of the delay of Smash Bros. Brawl, American gamers instantly began speculating the meaning of that announcement for the US release of Nintendo's battler. Just moments ago at Nintendo's media summit in San Francisco, CA, vice president of marketing and corporate communications George Harrison has confirmed that the game will be getting a delay in the US as well, hitting stores on Sunday, February 10 of 2008.

Wah-wah-wah-wawawawawahh.. that brings the titles Wii kids were looking forward to this holiday down to what? 1/2?

Well, there's still Super Mario Galaxy until then... knowing how much easier games have been getting....
I heard it was for co-op though.

I think the game is ready. Releasing SMG and SSBB during the same time period would be stupid. They need to spread load those top games to make it seem like Wii is getting good content all throughout the year.

If Assassin's Creed gets bumped I totally win my pool.

*Rockstar Table Tennis
*Manhunt 2
*EA Playground
*Guitar Hero III
*Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
*Battalion Wars 2
*Super Mario Galaxy
*Soul Caliber Legends
*Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
*Nights Journey Into Dreams
I think the Wii has a decent lineup, certainly not only 1 or 2 games for the rest of the year.

Umbrella Chronicles is going to suck though.

October 11th, 2007, 08:37 PM
That has yet to be seen... Anyways, a lot of these games will at least keep the kids happy and there is a fair amount of "hardcore games" fire emblem and battalion wars leading the pack.

It's a rail shooter Resident Evil game.
People don't buy Resident Evil for the gunplay.

Killer 7 (made from Capcom as well) for the Gamecube was a on rails shooter and received decent reviews. Plus you get a free light gun with the package which is always a plus. BESIDES Umbrella Chronicles the list that I already mentioned isn't that bad. I mean it will keep the fanboys happy

I dont think that game was received all that well. And all the marks that game got was for its visual style, not the gameplay. At least thats what I remember.

Killer 7 is not Resident Evil. Have we forgotten about RE Dead Aim. It sucked as. Grant it the Wiimote will have better controls but the game ends up being more of a house of dead type game vice keeping it to it's very nature.
I have no idea why Capcom just didn't use the same gameplay as RE4 for RE:UC? It worked flawlessly.

All I can say is meh...I'm a big smash fan, but with galaxy coming out before that and Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, I'm glad I'll have some time to pay attention to some other high quality games, because once SSBB hits that's probably all I'll be playing for the next year...that and halo 3 :\

We have to delay it for three more months so people can get hyped up, and then we can announce that Dante from Devil May Cry is in it as well.

and it's 2 months not 3 you silly goose you :P... But I seriously don't care about the delay since the Wii shop channel is the only thing keeping my Wii alive...

It's kind of a let down, but honestly I'm not bothered when a game is pushed back if it's sure to be a great game and it is sure to be released. That's when you know they're not trying to fix things at the last minute but rather they're fleshing things out a little more. The only times I'm really put off by delays are with games whose futures are less certain. I still have a sore spot for Star Craft Ghost, which got delayed deeper and deeper into developement hell.
Plus Fire Emblem comes out in a couple of weeks, which is a game I wanted even more than Smash.

I'm not buying all this "it's being delayed to flesh things out". It's freaking Wii using 6 year old Gamecube development tools. This is obvioulsy delayed to keep Nintendo's top titles spread out to sustain Wii sales.
Wii got Mario this holiday season and in the 1st quarter of 2008 it now has SSBB. I wouldn't be surprised if Mario Kart comes out April-May timeframe.

This is true, and theres proof. Why, at the time of an announcement of a delay, would Nintendo reveal new content (Sonic)? If the game needs to be 'fleshed out', why the hell would you add new things? That just means more things to flesh out...Oh wait, its because you want a game to release during the drought that is Jan-Mar. Why didnt the big N just say that...

Revealing Sonic recently doesn't mean the decision to add him in was also recent.

I don't know why anyone is surprised by this, AND I don't know why anyone believed the "fleshed out" BS. Nintendo is famous for setting arbitrary release dates for major titles to build anticipation and then delaying them. All their big name titles get delayed, this shouldn't come as a shock.

Makes sense. Release the game in February, after the holiday buzz dies down and Wii hardware sales inevitably decrease, and watch as the consumers come running back once they see a new Smash game hit shelves.

The only plan has already bee unveiled. And it's supposed to already be ready to handle all the people who will be playing Smash, without any problems? That seems like a lot to expect from them. Nintendo isn't known for having big online play.To save it as a big announcement to curb the disappointment at the delay.Exactly. If I remember correctly, they made both those announcements on the same day.I don't know why anyone is surprised by this, AND I don't know why anyone believed the "fleshed out" BS. Nintendo is famous for setting arbitrary release dates for major titles to build anticipation and then delaying them. Because it's not even close to being ready and never was? They pull a date out of their ass thats close enough to get people excited about the Wii. Then you go out and buy it and they pull the rug out from under you..
I mean, come on, they said it was gonna launch with the Wii and now it's not coming out until 2008.. do you really think that original release date or the febuary one for that matter was based on any kind of reality whatsoever?

Exactly, but here's the thing. If I remember right, the first KoToR was delayed by several different dates for a total of a little over a year. However, Bioware is known for being perfectionists with their games so it's no big surprise. Nintendo is churning out gameplay footage like nothing else, and if there's no big noticeable change (besides announcing new characters, which is BS, they've been in there since the beginning) in the gameplay, then it's most definitely huge BS.

I'm goin with Nico on this. This is an arena fighting game. I'm not a game developer, but if the gameplay footage we saw all the way back in May 2006 looked as complete as it did, it appears as though Nintendo is rolling the hype train at a perfect speed so that a game is available during a specific time period to keep sales steady.
I read an article on CNN of all places that interviewed that Reggie-Aims guy, or whatever his name is, and he literally ALREADY claimed that "Wii demand will exceed supply" this Christmas. And I read this article in September. Why cant Nintendo do something about this? Why not increase production? If thats not possible, why not build a new plant? Isnt there something they can do? Or are they just cheap bastards like always and want to have yet another christmas season of false hype of 'crazy sellouts' when really they are only shipping 2 consoles to a store per 3 weeks like last holiday?

Not to mention that you have to have friend codes in order to play with those buddies. The only way you can with someone without having their friendcode is by playing them randomly (similar to the way the new pokemon stadium plays). Brawl is going to be a great game, but its online multiplayer is as limited as it gets...

So basically it will suck playing with strangers but will be just fine when it comes to playing with your friends. There's the inconvenience of typing in a number for each of your friends but that's about it.
If you only plan to play with your friends then you should be alright, but if you want to meet new friends through the service...well I guess then you'd be out of luck there. Might see this as just making excuses for them, but I still think that sucks that they're restricting it like that. Still though, I don't personally plan on playing with people I didn't already know through other means.

You can still play with other real people. You just can't make new friends that way (of course that also means it will be without the hassle of friend codes :dabumchee: ).
But yeah, I'm just that way I guess. Even on WoW I don't usually want to do anything with people I don't know, just my friends and family that also play.
