Spur of the moment question. What's the most important decision you've made in your life, that wasn't the result of you parents/friends/whoever else pushing or guiding you, that you made on your own, that actually had an impact on your life? And how did it turn out and affect you?

I'd pretty much say getting married is the most important decision I've ever made. So far it's turned out quite well. Got a daughter. Happy. The works.

Choosing a University/Degree/Major.
Or deciding to live in Switzerland for a year. That was kinda random.
It's very hard to say what descisions are the most important without finishing my life. :D

Ending an unhealthy relationship was probably the wisest thing I've ever done.

I decided to go and work abroad, it didnt work out and I had to start my home life again from scratch afterwards but I dont regret it at all as I would have always wondered what if?

I've had easy decisions so far... the hardest probably being choosing whether to stay at my college or go to a University... and that wasn't that hard.

1. I left glamorous NYC for the wilds of Minnesota when I was 22. Sometimes I regret that decision, and wonder how my life would have unfolded had I stayed, but then I remember that I wouldn't have my son Joe if not for coming to Minnesota. Sure, I might have had another kid, but that kid wouldn't be my Joe.
2. Quitting drinking an drugging is without a doubt the single biggest change I have made in my life. For years, plenty of people (family, friends, cops, judges, etc. :D ) were guiding/pushing/demanding that I quit drinking and smoking dope, doing acid, doing mushrooms, doing whatever. Not until I wanted to give it up myself did anything ever change. Not that I didn't need any help, because I sure as hell did. But until I was willing to stop, nothing ever changed.
On the 25th of October I'll be twelve years clean and sober, and that's pretty much 12 years of living on borrowed time; twelve years of pure gravy; because if I hadn't stopped I'd be dead or in prison or in the nut house.

Joining the military after high school... or getting married... those are both really up there...
Joining the military has it's ups and downs of course...
But getting married was the best decision of my life...

So far, I'd have to say choosing to stick with my girlfriend after we both went through some tough times. It really seems like the right choice now, I'm glad I did it.

None for me, I'm only in high school.
But if I had to choose something...hmm I really can't think of anything. Maybe giving up a trip to PEI (I really don't like flying).

Stayed where I was. Got a less valuable degree but its still worth enough to make a good living.

Probably when I stopped doing drugs. I did a lot of bad stuff last year, and I lost friends and did poorly in school. Now I have more friends than every and my GPA is a 3.8 (rather than the 1.9 last year)

I'd argue you are posting in a nut house. :P

Probably the decision I made to go full blooded to be a barrister rather than go into my father's business. In all fairness, though my father really wanted me to go into his business (and turn it into something of a legacy), I don't think I would have fulfilled my potential there. I would have enjoyed it and probably developed the business further, but I think it would have stifled me somewhat. So I made the decision to go for a career as a barrister instead. Am I going to be more successful as a barrister and make more money than if I'd been in my dad's business? Possibly, but there's no real way to know. Am I going to enjoy being a barrister more? Almost certainly, so all in all I'm convinced that I made the right decision.
