View Full Version : GWFL Draft!

smashbro14
July 17th, 2007, 01:59 PM
Welcome to the official GWFL Draft. Most of you know how this works from last season, and it’s basically the same. The only difference is that you are not required to draft a certain amount of any position; draft whatever you want. The draft is 24 rounds, so stay active.

Here is the order:

1) BigDaddy – The Dark Surviving Eyes on Prozac!
2) James89 – Chris Benoit's Needle
3) Dr. Doom – Doom’s Revenge
4) The G.O.A.T – The Window Shoppers
5) Gabby Jay – The ‘Roid Droids
6) Freakish – Puff the Magic Dragon
7) XZ – Wildboyz 2.0
8) gala - Handfullastacks
9) Velocity – The Velociraptors
10) The Eye in the Sky! – The Laughing Mules
11) smashbro14 – The Kamelotians
12) Big – Battle Ready Armada

This operates like most fantasy drafts: serpentine style. The last person picking in each round picks TWO people, the second being the first pick of the next round.

You will have **12** hours to make your pick, but this will shorten throughout the draft. Once your time is up, the next person may pick and the one who missed their pick may go whenever, but we pick for them if either 24 hours pass or 3 picks are made, whichever comes first. This is to try and keep the league balanced, and if we have to find a replacement, they won't suck. And no, pick time does NOT start over for people with the 1st and 12th picks of each round if they miss their pick. Also, it would help if you listed the position and team for each player. This obviously isn't needed early on, but it may be in the later rounds.

Just like last year, we will have a couple Big Draft Nights. Basically, we try to find a time when most people can all be on at the same time, and those who can’t must send some kind of list of players to the me or James. We also have a chat going on in AIM because just about everyone last year had a sceenname. Me and James pick for those who aren’t present. We'll give you more information when the time comes.

Now, we will allow trades in this, but until the draft ends, each party must send an equal amount of players/draft picks. This won’t be nearly as strict once the draft ends.

Now, we can (and have) kicked people for inactivity. We really don’t like to do this, but sometimes it must be done. Just check it once a day and you'll be fine, but we'd prefer if you guys did it a little more often to speed it up. It's up to you though.

You’re free to discuss anything related to the draft or the NFL in general in this thread.

Each pick will be put into this post as well as every player taken. So use this as a reference later on.

Below is the section describing how many players of each position will be starting each week, so draft your team accordingly. It’s the same as last year.

Weekly Starters

1 QB
2 RBs
2 WRs
1 TE
2 DLs (Regardless of DT, DE, etc)
2 LBs (Regardless of MLB, OLB, etc)
2 DBs (Regardless of CB, S, etc)
1 K
2 Utilities (one offense and one defense; can't be a QB or a K).

And so that James and I don’t have an unfair advantage, below you will find the point chart. The only difference from last year is that we no longer include defensive bonuses for allowing 0-7 points or 30+ points.

POINT CHART

*Items marked in blue indicate either a new addition or something that’s newly clarified
**We have taken away defensive bonuses for points allowed
***kick and punt return touchdown are NOT counted
****Your players only receive points for their side of the ball. This means that offensive players only get points for offensive stats and defensive players only get points for defensive stats. For example, any tackle an offensive player gets does not count.

Offense

*Does not include special teams stats*

Passing, rushing, and receiving touchdowns: 6 points
1 point per every 25 passing yards
+5 for every 300 passing yards
Comp. Percentage (min 5 pass attempts; percentage is rounded to nearest tenth):
- 50%: 0 pts
- 60%: 2 pts
- 70%: 4 pts (and so forth)
- 40%: -2 pts
- 30%: -4 pts (and so forth)
(-3) points per every interception
1 point per every 10 rushing yards
+5 for every 100 rushing yards
1 point per reception
+5 for every 10 receptions
1 point per every 10 receiving yards
+5 for every 100 receiving yards
(-2) points for every lost fumble
2 points for every 2 point conversion

Defense

*includes DEFENSIVE special teams stats*

1 point for every tackle (total tackles)
+5 for every 10 tackles
2 points for a Pass Deflection
3 points for a sack (If player has .5 sacks, it is counted as 1. The total number of sacks is basically rounded up, so 2 half sacks counts as 1.0 sacks, which is only 3 points)
3 points for a interception
2 points for a forced fumble
2 points for a fumble recovery
5 points for a safety
5 points for a blocked kick
6 points for a touchdown

Kicking
29 yards and under– 3 points if made, (-4) points if missed
30-39 yards – 4 points if made, (-3) points if missed
40-49 yards – 5 points if made, (-2) point if missed
50+ yards - 6 points if made, (-1) point if missed
PAT – 1 point if made, (-10) if missed
left

Draft Order: Round 24 of 24
Pick time = 12 hours

Time up.

I pick Rocky McIntosh, LB, Washington (He's been god in preseason. Also, I like the Redskins)

Big picks Albert Haynesworth, DL, TEN

Big picks Andre Carter, DL, WAS

I pick Laron Landry (He's also been a beast in preseason. Better year than Sean Taylor. Calling it now. Everyone else I want has a terrible bye week... and there are a lot of people I want.)

I'll edit this post in a few minutes to pick for Tom's 23rd round pick, but he's currently up now in the 24th round.

5 Redskins on my team... hehe.

Last round everyone!

EDIT: Eye picks David Martin, TE, Miami

So... Eye is up again.

EDIT: And... Eye's time is up again.

Velo picks Kamerion Wimbley, LB, Browns (Steal right here)

Gala picks James Hall, DL, Rams

So XZ is up and Eye may pick any time. Why does this always happen at the end of the draft? :(

I went to the beach with my girlfriend of four and a half years for the weekend... you do the math.

...Actually, there is no math involved. I did get destroyed by some huge waves in the ocean for a while, though. Some waves dwarfed me by a few feet... it was impressive.

SUPER dUPer BreakDOWn

Best QB: Gabby
Manning has been an absolute fantasy (and rl) beast forever. Trent Green is a very good backup.
Worst QB: Gala
Jeff Garcia + Madden curse = epic fail.

Best RB: It'd be easy to go with BD, but there are question marks with the rest of his RB corps. The nod goes to James.
With Jackson, Deuce, and Thomas Jones... Deuce is a great goalline rusher and always puts up a decent amount of yards and Jones is the definition of a workhorse back.
Worst RB: XZ
His top back is a major injury concern. Green is clearly past his prime and Barber still only gets 50% of the carries at most.

Best WR: Freakish
Reggie Wayne has been an a fantasy animal the past couple of season and Andre Johnson had an absolutely terrific season last year and with no other options, that doesn't look to change all that much. Two potential breakout candidates in Holmes and Cotchery fills out one of the position.
Worst WR: Eye
Housh is a great #2 option but depth is lacking. Unless Chambers can become an Eddie Kennison++, WR should be a concern all year.

Best TE: Doom
Antonio Gates, duh.
Worst TE: BD
Neither TE has shown the ability to be great for a season and that means playing them by week, which is a very scary issue.

Best DL: Smash barely edging out Doom
Taylor is the best and Smith is solid.
Worst DL: Eye
IRL, this would be the best DL, but that's what sucks about fantasy. Little is an ok player, but Seymour just isn't as great as a fantasy player. Patrick Kerney ^_^

Best LB: Big
Assuming Ryans can put up similar numbers to last year, he has three tackling machines in Ryans, Lewis, and June and a decent sleeper option in Jackson.
Worst LB: XZ
Both Vilma and Davis have seen dips in their production the last couple of seasons. Was a tough choice because everyone seems to be just about even.

Best DB: Freakish
Wilson and Williams are two of the best fantasy DBs in the game and that's enough to put him at the top.
Worst DB: BD
Winfield is a nice player but Pollard and Atogwhatever, one of them will have to produce big.

Best Team from Draft: Doom
A healthy McNabb produces mega fantasy points and the combo of LJ/Bush is a fantasy goldmine. He's solid enough around the rest of the positions and has Gates.
Steal of the Draft (by position):
QB: Steve McNair, Round 22
RB: Marion Barber, Round 13
WR: Derrick Mason, Round 20
TE: Jason Witten, Round 19
DL: Andre Carter, Round 24
LB: Takeo Spikes, Round 24
DB: Madeiu Williams, Round 17
Best of the crappy names: Smash
What a lousy username.

It'd be hilarious if I won this league again with 1/3 Patriots. The guy that picks on gut feelings and bias rather than numbers is the best guy to win fantasy football!
