Stuff leaks. Even with all the precautions, something will get out. With millions of books it's bound to happen. Some random book that shipped will be sold before street date. Evil librarians. Attention seeking clerks at bookstores. Something will slip. Someone will peak. And something will reach the internet.
If you feel compelled to find said something and spoil yourself rotten, that's your deal.
But we don't want to know. Not yet.

So here is how this forum will be treating spoilers in the time leading up to and after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
Before the book is out (AKA Midnight of July 21, 2007):
Don't post spoilers. Don't link to anything. Don't talk about fight club. If you do, you will receive an official warning.
After release to until this thread is unstuck:
Please follow these simple guidelines to respect others who have not finished or not yet read the book.
No spoilers in thread titles. Deathly Hallows discussion threads should be marked with some sort of spoiler warning in their titles (ie. heavy spoilers/ mild spoilers/ do not read this thread unless you have finished the damn book spoilers). No spoiler tags are necessary in these threads unless of course they exceed the cautionary thread label For threads unmarked for spoilers, such as general threads that run the gamut of the books, use spoiler tags as such:
Rosebud is a sled!

Rosebud is a sled!

The pre-release spoiler rule is not meant to hamper discussion about what may happen in the coming book. It is directed at passages of the book, scans, plot points and summaries, and revelation of any key events, basically, anything in the book that hasn't already made it into a publishers press release.
Two years ago when HBP came out, a link was posted with little in the way of a spoiler warning to this site (http://dumbledoredies.ytmnd.com/). Many people clicked it, expecting only light spoilers, and more were spoiled just by hovering. There was no joy in Mudville, and a lot of people were quite pissed. That is the kind of thing the rule seeks to prevent.
Questions, comments, griping, and cookies are welcome (not necessarily in that order). Cookie preference is snickerdoodle, then oatmeal raisin. Muffins substitutable for cookies provided that they are either blueberry or cranberry orange. ;)
Happy countdown.
