I was curious as to what everyones opinions are on Fender Guitars.

I myself play almost exclusively Fender instruments and amps. I own a 1964 Fender Duo-Sonic II pre-CBS. Its my crown jewel. I think its an amazing instrument as all Fenders are. Besides that I own a Re-Issue Telecaster. '57 Re-Issue maybe? Not sure.

Besides the man topic, I was wonderin' if anyone else has had the great fortune of playin' the Duo-Sonic II. Its a great guitar. Smooth and bright.

I've got an old Fender acoustic, made back before Fender acoustics started to suck. :P I really, really like it. But I don't think their other products are really for me, as I'm after a big beefy rock tone and Fender amps tend to be lower-gain. Fender guitars play more smoothly than any I've ever played, but even the HSS and HSH Strats don't seem to get that rock sound I seek.

I adore my Strat... a Japanese re-issue Blue Flower. It was dirt cheap because the shop couldn't shift it (even I balk at the colour sometimes), but it sounds incredible and plays like a dream... of course it can't handle anything with gain, but that's not why you buy a Strat is it? Especially one with flowers on it...

I have a friend who exclusively plays Fenders. He just loves em.

Well, that Duo-Sonic II can get some nice crunchy sounds to it. Its my main stage guitar and I play loads of metal and rock. I'm plannin' on gettin' an Explorer sometime in the future, though.

I'm a drummer so my opinion might now count, but here goes.

Gibsons and Gretsches are my favourites. The sound that comes out of those 2 brands are unique and vary greatly. 2 days ago I recorded some stuff with a mate on his Gretsch and the sound was perfect to what we wanted.

On the topic of Fender's, I'm not really a fan. Their best guitar, in my opinion, is the Telecaster.

Oooh, I've got a white ESP-LTD EX400. 'Tis is a very nice guitar - might be worth a look at if you're after an Explorer. It comes with active EMGs too, so it saves you fitting 'em if you get one from another manufacturer.

I'm an ESP-LTD man myself. I've never really tried a Fender myself. Probably won't either. From what I've heard from other people playing them, they're not really my thing.

Depends on how you play :P. Doesn't matter the guitar. Wat really counts is the hands that play it.

I've seen a buddy of mine rip out some Halen on a Squier.
