Soleo and Remy waited for a few hours until the dead of night. They crawled through the underbrush until they reached the camp. As they guessed, it was a Dark Magi camp. They could hear hushed conversations. Obviously, these mages were much more careful than the others.

"Remy, I'm going to pull a cliche move. Wait until one of the mages comes near us. Snipe him in the head, then take off his robes. I'll walk over, pretending to be him, and listen to the conversation."

Remy got his bow ready, and one unknowing mage came over, looking for his book. Remy, one of the village's best archers, got the mage right in the eye, which pierce the brain, killing him instantly. Soleo dragged his body into the brush quickly, so no one would see.

Soleo removed his clothes, put them on, said to Remy "If another comes, get his robes," grabbed a book, gave his harpoon to Remy, then walked over to the group.

Soleo walked over to the larger group, very naturally. Great actor, he is.

"I found my book. Now, where we're we?"

"Well, if you would pay attention for once, we were talking about how best to get the brat's weapon. Now, what's your plan?" asked a hefty one in...you guessed it: black robes.

Soleo, being the great actor that he is, said "What really makes this spear so special? Couldn't we just go and get another harpoon from the village?"

The mages looked at him like he was an idiot.

"You've been in this conversation the whole time...did you get a hit to the head when you were getting your book?"

Soleo snickered in his head at the thought of the irony in that statement.

"The Harpoon is one of the Dragonic weapons, crafted by the Warriors of the Order of Dukas. They were evil weapons, and when the Order was brought down by warriors from Utherpane, they were scattered across the land. It was in a hope that the weilder would purify the weapon if he was of good heart. The weapon, as you can guess, holds enormous power, and if we were to obtain them, we could end all opposition to our cause. It is our hope to bring back the Order. Didn't you get the pamphlet?"

[Aura]

"I know that. But, still, I don't know how we know that this is the one."

"We told you, we already have one of the weapons, and it radiates power to the others. They are all linked by an inexplicable connection. Once together, they release a power unknown to any but the Order. The weilder defeated a spell tag we set up. At that point we knew it was his. And we thought we had it, but Famine was a fool, and gave it back to him in a moment of stupid pride."

One mage ran up to the group, his face overjoyed.

"Sir, the Dagger is reacting violently. The harpoon is near."

[Aura]

"Who is this man you speak of? What does he look like?"

"Spiky blue hair. But that's not important now, since you'll see him very soon. He's near, and we will catch him this time."

The mage runs towards where Remy was hiding.

[Aura]

Soleo leaped forward on the man who was running for Remy. He grabbed both tusks and stabbed them on both sides of the man's neck. "Remy, run!"

Soleo turned and saw other mages charging for him. "Flash!"

He then dashed forward and blindly slashed and stabbed, ripped a bit of his own robes, then put them away. When the light cleared, nobody could tell who was Soleo.

OOC: I'm not sure what to do...that was a hard fight to follow. But, I assume you went after Remy?

OOC: I killed the guy that went after Remy, used flash, while the people were blinded, Soleo started to stab at them. Then he tore his own robes to he would blend in when the light settled.

OOC: Oh, nice.

The mage that was speaking to Soleo before looked at him. He couldn't tell that he was the disguised one.

"What the hell was that? One of our men must have been caught. Dammit! How could I be so stupid? Why did I trust that man, the one who kept asking those idiotic questions that we all knew...you there! Chase after the harpoon. Take it back with no mercy whatsoever!"

The mage was pointing at Soleo.

[Aura]

Soleo changed his voice again. "About the man who got killed by the bear...he came back to live, but screaming in pain. I could tell him that I could save his life if he came with us. But how can I save his life?"

Remy looked at Soleo long and hard.

"I don't think Romuley would be stable enough to come. You might as well see what effect that potion of yours will have before we ask him anything. Now, tell me all that they said on the walk back to the village."

[Aura]

Soleo told the story to Remy.

"Hey...Remy, would you mind being my friend? I don't really have any friends, even though I grew up in Revald..."

Remy looked surprised.

"Yeah, sure Soleo."

They talked all the way until they neared the doctor's office.

"Well, we need to see if this works. After you, Soleo."

[Aura]

"Romuley, please, drink this, if you can."

[Addicted to Oi!]

"No! Please, don't make me! It hurts! I won't, I won't."

His hysterics would not let up, and his pain seems to have worsened.

"Soleo, he needs this potion. It's the only possibility."

OOC: I'll have Remy's profile up soon.

"Please, take it. I'm asking you, as a friend, and as a fellow hunter. It will save you. Please, drink it."

The hunter seemed to calm down slightly, just enough for Soleo to give a little of the potion to him. The hunter grew stiller, and Soleo gave the rest to him. Remy and Soleo waited for 5 agonizing minutes, until they checked his condition. Remy walked over to his friend.

"...He's dead. You freed him, Soleo."

[Aura]

"...it wasn't a poison. It was a potion of life..."

Soleo punched the ground, furious.

"Remy...get your supplies. Tomorrow, we leave. Together, we will hunt down those wizards. Ask around. Ask who will follow us. I will go on to the port. Meet me there. Bring whoever you can."

Morning came, a somber feeling falling over both hunters. Remy walked up to Soleo, looking exhausted and hopeless.

"No one would come. They heard about what happened to Romuley, and decided you're too much trouble to follow anymore. I'm sorry."

Remy hitched up his equipment, his beloved bow on his back. It was a gift from his home town, a symbol of the village's gratefulness for his protection. He came to Soleo's village in search of work.

OOC: I swear, I'll have his profile up right away, once my friends stop bugging me on AIM.

"Hey, Remy...did any of them say anything about me? Do they blame me for his death?"

"No, none of them blamed you directly, but they blamed you for attracting those mages. But don't think about them, they don't trust anyone anymore."

"Remy...I'm so sorry for this. I lived there my whole life...and now I did this..."

OOC: This is started to seem A LOT like the first few hours of Tales of Symphonia. Don't you agree?

OOC: Yeah, it is. Now, we just need a Mercenary that turns out to be a traitor, and an Angel father that turns out to be...I don't know, never got that far.

"No, it's fine. Those mages are evil, and you wouldn't be safe by yourself. Plus, I want to find out what happened to Romuley. He was my first friend here, and he was a good man."

OOC: Remiel? You kill him. Easy boss battle. He was hired by Cruxis, who is actually evil. Cruxis and the Desians are the same. Mithos is the final boss. You spend time trying to find a cure for this one girl. End of story.

"Ok, then. We should stop at the next town and see if there are any people there. Do you agree?"

Background: Remy grew up in the port town of Akhis, primarily a fishing and shipping town. Remy was one of the town's best safeguards, protecting them from the occasional bear attacks or attacking cities, ones that would want to take over Akhis' many transportation and trade resources. He left to fulfill his own life, trying to make his way as a first-class hunter in Revald.

"Ok. Now, Remy, it seems that I can see what you look like. Let's get out of the forest first."

The walked down the path out of the woods, and made it too the highway.

"How much farther from here?" asked Remy.

"One mile. Oh, and Remy...if you don't mind me asking, why did you come with me?"

"I told you. I want to find out what those blasted mages are up to just as much as you, what happened to Romuley. Plus, a friend doesn't let another friend go off without help when he knows that friend might be in trouble."

"But, I didn't even know your name until today. Ah, look. It's Grenidos."

Grenidos was a small, fenced town, in the middle of the plains.

"Well, if you had been in this same situation, would you have rejected my help because you didn't know my name?"

The conversation carried on through the town gates.

"No. And don't you find it odd that even though I was the main hunter, and I fed almost everybody, they were so quick to discard me?"

"Well, my more optimistic side thinks that they were just thinking of the best thing to do for the village. But...my pessimistic side thinks they were cowards and deserters."

[Aura]

"Well, they left us, so...I really don't know."

Soleo looked around to see what there was to do.

"What do you think we should do?"

"Well, we should ask for information. Maybe see if anyone knows anything about the Dark Mages, or if they have been seen around here lately."

OOC: Get onto Wi-Fi, please.

You should go to the bar. I'll go to the inn.

Soleo then walked to the bar and asked around, looking for information.

Soleo entered the bar, a pretty clean place that was reasonably busy. The barman called over to him.

"What can I do you for, sir?"

Soleo walked over to him.

OOC: WI-FI!!!

"Sorry, I was supposed to go to the inn. My bad."

Soleo then walked to the inn.

The innkeeper greeted Soleo.

"Good day, sir. Would you like a room? It only cost 30 gil...I mean gold a night."

OOC: You no respond to Wi-Fi?

"I don't need a room. I'm just curious if any fighters have come in here recently."

OOC: I'm fixing it right now...sorta. I'm learning how to fix it right now.

"Oh yes, of course. You didn't know? There's a tournament in town. 100-man elimination. I have the sign-up sheet right here, if you're interested."

[Aura]

"Yes, please!"

Soleo walked over and signed his name.

"So, have you heard any rumors? Any bandit problems?"

OOC: I'm almost done with Moss Rock.

"No, nothing around here. I hear the next town, Rajin, had some troubles, but that's understandable. It's infamous as a criminal haven. I would avoid it if I were you, unless you need to get a ride on a ship, and even then I would travel to the Capital. But in any case, the tournament's tomorrow, and since you signed up, you get a room for free. Anyone else you know that might want to sign up? We still need a couple of contestants."

[Aura]

"Yeah, hang on."

Soleo dashed to the bar, just realizing that he was still wearing that dark mage robe.

Remy looked up at Soleo, looking slightly glazed over.

"Hey, 'Han Soleo'. Hehe, Han Soleo."

[Aura]

"When I put you here, I knew Ryan was going to make you drunk. Damn him. So, what information did you get here?"

[Addicted to Oi!]

Remy sobered up as soon as they left the bar.

"Well, I found out that the Dark mages are spread out way past these borders. From a couple of loose-mouthed drunks, I found out that one of their major outposts is stationed in Rajin. Oh, and about being drunk: if you seem like a harmless, pathetic drunk, you attract a lot less alarm and caution."

"There is a 100-man tournament. Want to join?"

OOC: FYI, Ryan, the island goes...

Revald on the west side.

Then Grenidos in the middle.

Then a fork in the road. Left leads to Rajin. Right leads to the unnamed port town.

"Of course. I need to brush up on my skills, anyway. Where do I sign up?"

"You sign up at the inn."

As Remy walked away, Soleo felt a sudden chill, as is something terrible had just happened.

Remy came back, a big grin on his face. It soon faded as he saw Soleo's face.

"What's wrong? Looks like you saw a ghost."

[Aura]

"Something doesn't feel right...follow me!"

Soleo darted out of town and started to explore the nearby plains.

Remy followed closely, keeping up to Soleo's mad sprinting.

"What is it? I don't see anything."

[Aura]

"Something has happened, or something will happen. Just keep looking!"

OOC: I'm trying to give you some freedom here...

OOC: I don't want to take it. You interrupted a very good RP arc I was going into, and I do not appreciate it. So, you create it...meanie.

"I still don't see anything. What could possibly be happening?"

"Never mind. Let's go back."

Soleo and Remy walked back to the town

"We might want to get back to the Inn, it's getting late. And we'll need our rest for the tourney. G'night."

Remy went back to the inn, a large one for the town's size.

OOC: Do you want me to do anything to repay for interrupting you?

Soleo walked into the room. It was quite nice. Two beds, feather mattress and pillow, wooden frame, a bookcase with a few nice books, and a wooden table.

Soleo placed his harpoon under his bed, along with his tusks and dark mage robe. He found a water axe and a lunar robe underneath the bed, as well, and decided to take them. He soon fell asleep.

OOC2: Can I have the dark mage robe as an item?

OOC: No, actually, you gave me an idea. So, that's repayment enough. And yes. You want is as armor, or just "Tattered Dark Mage Robes" as an item?

Morning came soon, and Soleo awoke to see Remy was already gone. He got up and walked into the lobby of the inn, expecting to see Remy. He was nowhere in sight. He asked the attendant at the desk if she had seen him.

"Oh, yes. Mr. Remy left already, to get an early look at the competition. You'll find him in the town square."

OOC2: Do you have AIM?

[Aura]

"Um...sir? Would you mind if I purchased a few of the books in my room? I'd really appreciate it. The ones I want are Basic Symbology, Spearman's Guide, The Hunter's Fieldguide, and Aquatic Echo. How much for those four books?"

OOC: I do not have AIM. And I would like the robes as an item, please.

OOC: Well, you should consider getting it, if not for humanity, for slight amusement. And add "Tattered Dark Mage Robes" to your item list.

"Hmm. We don't own those books. Must have been from some previous tenant. You can have them for free. Their not our property."

[Aura]

OOC: I don't like them. I prefer forums.

"Thank you very much, sir. Farewell."

Soleo walked outside and saw Remy.

OOC2: Can I add those four books to my item list?

OOC: Yeah, add them. I might find a future use for them, if you don't go to the Alchemy center with them first.

"Soleo, this is gonna be great! I'm so pumped. How about you?"

[Aura]

"Please, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm worried about you. Don't die. Now, where was it going to be held?"

[Addicted to Oi!]

"Right outside town."

Remy saw the look on Soleo's face.

"Don't worry, not in that clearing. So, that's a better chance that I might die. Plus, they have a bunch of angels from Rajin's gates here to heal people. The gates were set up to keep out criminals, but so far it hasn't worked. I hear Darminus, the leader, is furious about all of them getting through, calling them the 'Scurge of the earth.' So, we should be fine. C'mon, they're holding the elimination matches to get it down to 16 people."

Remy pointed to the south, to a clearing with a large platform in the middle, surrounded by warriors of every shape, size, and creed. Soleo even saw some of the hunters from his village.

[Aura]

"Let's go."

OOC: I just saw that Remy is almost twice Soleo's age.

OOC: Sorry, didn't see Soleo's age. I made it a bit more appropriate.

As Remy and Soleo neared the stage, they saw an odd event going on. There was a medium size boulder on the ground, with several others of the approximately same size next to it. Several warriors were trying to break it, apparently.

"I've heard about this. If you can break the boulder, using any of your attacks, you get in the 16. This is gonna be tough," said Remy to Soleo, his voice sounding much younger all of a sudden.

[Aura]

"Well, let's see how well I can try to break it..."

Soleo madly dashed forward and aimed his spear forward, hoping to do something.

[Addicted to Oi!]

...Nothing.

The boulder remained unchanged. Remy walked up and whispered to Valreki.

"You get five minutes to break it. Also, it's not about pure strength, it's about strategy."

[Aura]

OOC: Soleo is the only person trying to break this rock, right?

"Ah."

Soleo stepped back and yelled "Petal Wind."

Ignoring what just happened, he used Downward Sweep to cause it to roll down a hill, hoping it would break.

OOC: At the time, yes. It goes in order.

The rock smashed into a bigger rock, and due to Mohs hardness scale, broke.

"Contestant 15, Soleo...um, what's you last name?" asked the moderator.

[Aura]

"Soleo Raes, sir."

Soleo then turned to Remy.

"Good luck."

"Don't worry, I have a good idea of what to do."

Remy walked up to the rock, taking time to calm himself.

"Wraith Strike!"

Remy split into 5 solid, yet slightly transperent copies of himself, complete with bows.

"Falling Stars!"

All five Remys shot arrows that glowed a dazzling white into the sky. They came back together, and Remy stood back with a smug look on his face. A barrage of white-hot holy shards rained down from the sky, each hitting the exact same spot on the rock. It crumpled into countless pieces, each one about the size a large pebble. Remy picked one up.

"It'll be my good luck charm. Good luck in the tourney," he said to Soleo as he walked over to the moderator's panel.

The moderator was so stunned by the performance that he failed to announce that Remy was the last contestant.

"Umm...uh, that makes Mr. Remy Nightlong the 16th and final contestant. Drawings for tournement order will begin later today, with the main event being tomorrow. Good luck to all contestants, and thank you for the participation for everyone else."

"Good job, Remy! What do you think we should do until the tournament starts?"

"Well, I want to see the drawing first, but we could always go watch some spars. They're usually interesting."

"I would prefer to conserve my energy until the fights. So I won't spar. However, I'd like to go see the competition."

Most of the so called comptetition wasn't, just a bunch of local hunters and tradesmen and the like that got together for what was meant to be fun time. But, then again, those were the ones that didn't break the rock.

The small group of dedicated fighters lined by the stage. They carried staves, axes, swords, spears, and other weapons for which Remy and Soleo had no description. Most were either meditating, or practicing with their weapons of choice. One group, though, was having a rather heated battle. It was between an Elf bearing a longsword, and a human with a mighty axe. They were fast, and their weapons were a complete blur in the action, parrying and slashing.

You could tell that they were some of the favorites of the tournament, as everyone was gathered around, rooting for their favorite as if they were known all over Utherpane. The battle went on for a long time, neither one of the warriors tiring.

"They seem tough. Think we can beat 'em, Soleo?"

[Aura]

"I really don't know. We can only try."

[Addicted to Oi!]

"Hey, they're calling out the brackets now. Wanna go see where we are?"

[Aura]

"Yes, certaintly."

Soleo walked over and looked.

[Addicted to Oi!]

OOC: You mind adding Remy to the front page? I want to advance him some, and this way he'll stay after splits.

"Yeah, let's see...oh crap. I'm seed one and you're...you're...seed 16."

[Aura]

OOC: Did that awhile ago.

"Ok. So, we are the farthest apart. No problem."

"Well, if all goes well for both of us, that means we'll end up facing each other. I don't want to do that."

[Aura]

"I would refuse to fight you."

OOC: Ryan, I know you want to. But please don't.

OOC: What? Have a fight between Soleo and Remy? Never dreamed about it. Just wait, as you already now the outcome.

"Yeah. How about I forfeight when we get to the fight. Then if you win the tounament, you might learn something about these mages. I heard that they were monitoring this tournament to see if any new recruits could be found."

[Aura]

OOC: I doubt I know. Surprize me!

"I think the matches are starting. Let's get ready."

OOC: Surprise*. No Z.

The moderator stepped up to the podium beside the stage.

"Match 1, Remy Nightlong versus Adrian Kive. Fighters ready?"

Remy had already gone onstage, bow in hand. He looked calm, like this was his one element. The other fighter, a stout dwarf holding a very deadly looking axe, looked extremely cocky.

"Ready."

"Ready."

"FIGHT!" yelled the moderator.

...In a flash it was over. Remy had shot an ice arrow right at the dwarf's feet, planting him there for the half second Remy needed to summon his spirit dagger, go up behind the helpless fighter, and hold it to his neck.

"Give up now, dwarf, or I'll finish this the way it was meant to be finished."

"I give up, I give up!" yelled the stout little man, obviously frightened.

"The winner, Remy Nightlong!"

As Remy walked down, Soleo walked over to greet him. "That was impressive. I'm amazed."

"It was a complete guess on my part. I'm surprised* it worked. If he would've stepped about a foot to the left, I would have been open to the most gut wrenchingly painful slash to the abdomen. I timed it all in my head, and there was to be no stopping."

"In any case, it's over, and in a while you'll be up. You might want to go get ready."

[Aura]

"Ok. Will do."

Soleo walked over, sat under a tree, and started to read "The Spearman's Guide."

"For amateur users, spears are good disarming or momentum-negator weapons, able to stop an opponent's advantage with range and lateral speed. For advance users, however, the spear is a lithe and deadly weapon, able to move like water and strike like a falcon. Users of this level know that, when used correctly, the spear is an invaluable defensive weapon, as shown by the Whirlwind Ward technique."

Soleo looked at the description of the Whirlwind Ward, practicing it on his Harpoon. It was a natural enough movement, and he soon got the hang of the transitions.

Learned Whirlwind Ward (Lv. 1, Swings harpoon in a tight circle around Soleo, blocking most physical attacks)

"How interesting."

Soleo continued to read.

"Spear users must be careful, though, and be sure to carry a backup weapon. While the spear's range is an advantage, it is also a weakness. In very close battles, the spear is next useless, as the spearhead causes a tremendous ballance problem, and it cannot be used as an effective blunt weapon to knock enemies away. Suggested weapons: daggers, kris, maces, hatchets."

Soleo looked in the back of the book.

"What is a Kris?"

"A kris: a small, ice-pick like dagger that is excellent for piercing through the ribcage with its very slencer, very pointy blade."
