Possible problem

well, recently Ive gotten into the trend of getting the motivation to learn a song completely, and I look through the tab and I know I can play it, but I get bored about halfway through and say just forget it. It's not that I cant play the song, just that I get really bored learning it really fast. I'd honestly rather practice scales/other stuff and write my own material. Is this a bad thing? Like will this affect my band in a negative way if and when we decide to do covers? If anyone else has had this problem, how'd you get through it? Thanks a bunch.

I doubt it will hurt you too much if your band decides to start doing covers, right now it just looks like you have a lack of motivation to learn it. But, if your band starts doing covers, you will have all the motivation you need. But if you can, I would suggest doing as few covers as possible anyway. Trust me, you are way better off just doing your own music.

Yeah, I really dont wanna do many covers, but I mean a few wouldn't really hurt. But thanks, I hope in the event we want to learn some that I'll be motivated enough.

You could play covers just when rehearsing with your band, although that might not give you the motivation either...
