View Full Version : Why I don't play FIFA

Ok, here is my story of why I don't play FIFA games. I'm a relatively good FIFA 07 player, and my opponent (who owned the game) is one who I have beaten 5-0 when he was France and I was Anderlecht.

We started off a game. I was Anderlecht again and he was one of the top teams (I believe Man Utd). First half, not much happened, but the AI was quite good. I was glad not to have conceded a goal. Second half starts, I score early on. I was very happy. At about 75 game minutes in, I scored again. 2-0 me.

However, that was when my AI died. They changed to the wrong player every time, didn't go to the correct formation, etc. Then about 5 game minutes later, he scored. 2-1. Not too bad, as long as I just stayed in the game. Then the AI's bad just got even worse. He scored again, in the 90th minute. I'm quite good at penalty shootouts, so I wasn't devastated.

You can probably guess what happened next. Go on, guess.

He scored again. About the 93rd minute. As soon as I kicked off, the whistle blew. I played the same way, but the AI's annoyingness lost the match. And that is why I don't play FIFA any more.

Happens in Pro Evolution Soccer 6 too, infact there are a lot of complaints about the "scripting of matches". I am not sure if I believe it but some crazy things do happen.

Well, that's never happened for me on Pro Evo, and FIFA is the worse game in general anyway.

FIFA is a ridiculous game. I can see that happening in xbox 360, just because how sh!tty FIFA is on that console. I honestly feel like I have so little control over that game when I'm playing. And the dynamics are absolutely horrific. And I hate it when people use that finesse shot. Its the same goal over and over again. In Pro Evo, every single goal you score is unique.

For PS2, FIFA 07 is more like winning, but also more ridiculous. Especially if you're playing against someone. I don't think I've ever scored less than 4 goals per match in that game. Our games always end up like 6-5 or something crazy. And it was set to World Class.

I don't know how true that 'match-scripting' thing is. I just think crazy sh!t just happens in these games sometimes, and it can sometimes add to the thrill.

Also, 3000th post. Yay.

Match scripting was a suggested issue on the harder levels of PES6. There were certain matches where it almost seemed like the computer was destined to win and wouldn't let you score.

It's not really an issue, it's just frustrating when you play the odd match and nothing will go in. It happens. But you're never 3-0 in Pro Evo with ten minutes left and the computer wins 4-3.

Why I don't play FIFA:

Because it's sh*t.

compared to the PES series, it doesn't even have anything to offer.

Powerslave's post basically summed up what I was trying to say in this thread. :D

FIFA isn't ****. Sometimes the AI can be bad, but you should be getting to the player with the ball. Also why is your opponent even gettin the ball?

It's not, on PES6 I came across a method that pretty much guaranteed a goal every time. Yet to find one on the latest PES though, and there shouldn't be with the new Teamvision AI.

Of course, PES is the better game but people shouldn't kid themselves that its perfect and doesn't have its flaws.

Please share, because this is the first I've heard of such a technique. Whilst not technically accurate, the ball physics in Pro Evo have been streets ahead of Fifa and produce infinitely more ways to score. So every goal might as well be unique compared to the competition.

That said, the comparative review in Games TM has said that Fifa 08 is better than the new Pro Evo. Worrying, but true. I haven't played either yet.

I do actually like the new FIFA, at least on the 360. It plays a slower, more tactical approach and whilst there are still a few times where you feel you are not in control but overall the game is a lot of fun. As a simulation it feels much more realistic than the faster paced PES.

Plus, whilst not really important to the gameplay, the graphics make PES look like sh*t.

Right well I had time to think about it and first off it's worth mentioning that I only ever played on regular difficulty, but I always used to be able to use a quick player (e.g. Obafemi Martins) to run through the penalty area diagonally away from the goal (so the centre back could only pressure and not get a foot in). Then once I got parallel to the edge of the 6 yard box I could always cut inside, lose the marker, run perpendicular to the goal and get in a point blank shot pretty much guaranteed to score.

FIFA's been getting better reviews pretty much across the board. I've already made my bed by purchasing the new PES but I might as well download the FIFA demo and see what it's like.

On regular difficulty, fair enough. I can believe that. But if you're scoring freely on regular, crank it up to a higher difficulty. I can guarantee that the game will be much more challenging, and much more satisfying.

I know the trick he's referring to. It worked on past FIFAs, especially on lower levels. I haven't played in 08 because I broke my Logitech controller a few weeks ago (just an odd, straight fumble of it). I'm really impressed by the increase in difficulty. For 07, it got to the point where I beat Inter 15-2 in a CL two-legged series on Legend difficulty (you have to unlock that level). I struggle to beat Reading 3-0 on World Class here.

On FIFA 2004 I could score every time by using the R2 button to bring up the direct pass thing (the one with where the numbers came up above the strikers heads, can't remember what it was called), then swing a cross in to the player marked "1". The player would always be able to control it and a shot from that position was guaranteed to go in.

I may be confused but weren't you the same person a long time ago that stated his dislike of Pro Evo because it was too realistic and would much rather just play the real life football?

Wow you have a good memory.

I made that statement in context to the the foul system in PES5. You'll remember that you couldn't really come in contact with your opponent without conceding a foul (atleast for the first few weeks). It was realistic, but made the gameplay way too choppy. They improved on that with PES6, and I went back to loving the game.
