Any way to hook up instruments straight to computer?

Dunno if that's even possible but I have a new computer and program that allows recording of instruments hooked up to the computer... and I have no idea what that means. Are there any ways to do that or am I stuck with playing my bass into a microphone?

i suppose you might be able to get a lead for your bass that has a USB connector on the end that would normally plug into your amp. that would be my guess.

you would either have to have a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor going from the bass into the computer or buy one of those external usb preamp things like a pod or something

It's an iMac computer as well, if that is important.

I have a 1/4' to 1/8' that came with a little ten dollar mic I bought a while back. But I wouldnt recommend recording that way, the sound is completely clean. You could, however, take a line out from your amp and hook it into the computer, that way it'll sound just like you like it on your amp.


Anyways, Im sure that you can find one of the 1/4-1/8 adapter on ebay or an instrument website.

You can find 1/4 > 1/8 jacks at Radio Shack, I know. I've bought a couple from there.

Um, basically, to string all these posts together, If your amp has a direct line out, run a cable from that to your computer with a 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter. Ideally, you should use somthing like a POD, but with your amp it should work alright.
