I've been playing the game for around 6 weeks now (I'm addicted) I've started around 6 games 2 of which have been United and I just cant seem to do well with them, I've tried different tactics/formations/signings and just cant crack them, I also sucked with Valencia and Barcelona in fact my only succesful games are Juventus and Arsenal, does anybody else have problems with specific teams or do I just plain suck?

Well, I've just picked this up and have only done 5 matches, but here's what I found helped:

-Always try and increase your team's morale at every available point via team talks.
-If it's injuries, bring up reserves. D Jones and Kieran Lee worked for me.
-Pick a solid formation and stick with it.

I can probably give some more help once I can get more experience.

The only thing about the positive team talks is one of the game tips says not to repeat your team talks or they will loose effect

All I can give is some general tips for FM games, because I've only played up to 2005.

Keep your tactics simple. The vast majority of teams play 4-4-2, and there's a reason for that. It is a simple and effective formation. Most teams can naturally play it with their best players, and Man Utd are one of those. Teams like Barcelona and Milan need to adjust because they have excellent central attacking midfielders (who are not effective in a 4-4-2), but most teams should just stick to a 4-4-2 for most games.

For away matches considering changing that to a 4-5-1 if you have a pacy striker up top. Counter attacking can be very effective against teams that will go at you at home, with that extra man in midfield giving you a little extra bite.

Leave the training settings alone. I don't know about 2007, but in 2005 backwards there was little point in messing with training.

Spread your scouts out, and make them look in less than obvious places. Send some to the main countries like Spain, Italy and England (always have one in the country that your main game is being played in), but also consider lesser areas such as Holland (which produces great young talent), and other continents such as South America. You can find some good players if you look in the right places.

Be aware of your fixture list. Don't put all of your best players into upcoming games against Watford and Sheffield United at home if your match after that is against Chelsea away. Big teams like United have packed fixture lists, so preserve your best players for when you need them. Using them in every game just leads to them getting burnt out.

I think perhaps things have changed as far as the formation goes, many of the CPU teams play formations other than 442 imparticular a lot play a 41221, the game I've had the most success in is with Arsenal where I play a 532 which isnt a formation their renound for playing in real life.

I dont bother messing with the training unless I have a young player who I want to mould in a particular way.

I do spread my scouts but I've had limited success thus far, I'm not really keen on the new system for that.

I do rest players for games but some get a wobble on over it, some require a notice that you intend to rest them and at the time I'm unsure.

It really does sound like things have changed then- a lot of the things you mention there aren't in the old games. I'm going to have to pick up the new version.....

Personally, I'm still waiting for 2008 before I even consider "upgrading". Mainly because save games still don't carry over.

I suppose I might as well wait for 2008 now considering that we're at the end of this season.

Hold on, you can't just leave your training to assistant manager now can you? I havent seen that option since 2005. Training plays a big part in how well I do in my games.
