Ocarina of Time is better than Majora's Mask. (You can't warn me. :tease:)
Ocarina of Time was just the more epic game both in its storyline and what it accomplished in terms of gameplay. MM owes so much to OoT.
That aside, I conceed that MM's storyline is much more involved that OoT's. Your quest in intertwined with the lives of all these NPCs, and you have to solve their problems. Thing is, I don't really like being everyones b*tch in this way. I'd find it much more tolerable without the stupid time limit too, though that is a necessary plot gimmick.
I find it annoying because I want to solve puzzles and do dungeon stuff. MM has, what?, 4 dungeons? Screw Anju and Jailbait. Show me the ninjas. I want to do the high questing stuff and save the world.
Along the same lines, you really lack freedom of exploration in MM. I like to fool around and wander a lot. And because I like finding stuff on my own, I really hate having to buy maps. I also hate running out of time.

haha MM introduced me to tingle...and that came with a strip-tease...
but you do hav e some good points there inle. MM wasn't as free BUT i did find that the game was "easily glitchable" while OoT, the biggest glitch you could do was seam walk and swordless link.
for fun, i would say MM but for story i would definetly say OoT

Well, I like MM. It has speacial features like the Bomber's Notebook and all of its wonderful side-questyness. I like being able to watch everyone's lives to see how Clocktown ticks (pun intended, lol) and discover how their lives are intertwined. It also has those wicked sweet tranformation masks! I love swimmin, rolling, and being friggin sweet Oni-Link!
But, the game can become repetitive, and I don't like the method of saving. It's kind of annoying, and so is the fact that you lose all of your items going back to day 1.
Ocarina of Time, however, has more of an epic feel. You go through 3 dungeons as a kid and then go through 7 more! :woohoo: I love those temples and the fact that you beomce adult. Also, as I said in the other thread, it was the first game I played, so I can still remember that magical feeling of watching the Great Deku Tree speak to Navi and knowing a great legend was unfolding. *sob* lol.

I have to go with Ocarina of Time. It was my first Zelda game, and I think it was overall more epic than Majora's Mask. Both are great games, but OoT just has that aura about it that puts it a step ahead of all the other games.
BunniesGoneBad
March 30th, 2007, 11:52 AM
omg MM is losing!!!!! x_x
yeah OoT was super awesome and epic and such, but i found that after you play it more and you remember everything it gets boring...
and with MM you could do the mask quests, the kafei/anju thang, and try to find all the heart pieces (i missed one )
yeah MM all the way dont make me debate with all you!
Milo Rambaldi
March 30th, 2007, 12:56 PM
:D I will remove all warnings Milo gives under this false rule.
NOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh, well...
Majora's Was just more fun and more personal. Ocarina of Time was just dungeon-place-dungeon. Majora's Mask was Dungeon-Quest-Fun-Other Stuff-Dungeon...
And besides, the final battle Kicked Royal @$$! :D
That is all.

Ya, fighting Majora was pretty sweet, especially as Oni-Link. I also liked Ganon's Tower collapsing and another fight with him.
Twilight
March 30th, 2007, 03:27 PM
The final battle actually had difficulty in it.
While I do admit both were damn good, Each has their own qualities. OOT, come on...look at it. First Zelda on Nintendo 64. MM, so much interactivity.
They each have their downsides too. OOT wasn't hard. Except for the Water temple, gtfo.
MM on the other hand, was pretty intense. The final boss was actually pretty tough. Plus, Masks = party.
I'm abstaining this one because both are damn good.

This could end up being a poll editing battle... :P
Majora's Mask was more interactive, with more to do. There's nothing in Ocarina of Time that could compare. (Inle, do that comparitive chart that you use to compare the extra things to do between OoT and TP)
Nicholas
March 30th, 2007, 06:17 PM
MM is better. There is a mix of humor in it. Like the Juggling Brothers, and the Link/Goron named Link with room thing was funny.
I liked the final battle as well.
I STILL can't believe no one has guessed what my MM puzzle is, it's so obvious!!!!!!

Chart...oh I know what you're talking about. I really don't have time. I have a paper due at midnight and two more due Tues. I'm being a bad procrastinator right now.
This chart was basically making fun of TP as a bit of an OoT -greatest game evar btw- clone. MM being much more a crappysidequest based game, you're going for a pretty stacked comparison if that's your only measure. It shouldn't be.
And I'm certainly not doing it for you. :tease:

Dynomite
March 30th, 2007, 06:46 PM
I like OOT better than MM for the following reasons. OOT was the first Zelda to be 3D. It looked absolutely amazing when I first played it, and that feeling wasn't there when I played MM. And there were tons of little things that annoyed me in MM, like Tingle, and the fact that you lost your rupees when you went back in time. I always forgot to store them. The masks were nice, but other than an hour or two of goofing off in them, most of them really didn't have a purpose. I also like OOT's sprawling world. MM always felt confined. And Adult Link is in OOT, that's a plus.
Anyway, it is really these subtle things that make OOT better than MM for me. MM was still a great game, probably one of my top ten of all time, but OOT was better.

OoT! And I think its not even a contest! OoT had 1 major factor that MM didnt. OoT was EPIC. By epic I mean more emotionally involved. The settings were better, the music was better, Old link kicked ass, It was the first 3D zelda and it totally reinvented the series aswell as let it stick to its roots. The fight against good and evil was well played and thought out. OoT was and still is flawless. truly an amazing game in every aspect.
End.

you don't get it do you, thats it Pm me if you want a list of all the things, im done no one gives a crap. yes it was an epic but if you read the "how many games have beaten" forum I finished the fastest while doing side quest it is a real easy game to do. but majora's mask you do'nt get the same resaults it's hard to finish, But you know something I never got help and Im in a world of hurt. Oot you don't need a walk through it is vairly easy to beat. (nice speech though I thought you were ackting like some one famuse).

I get very torn between OoT, MM and LttP being best evers. I think MM had more fun value to it, a bit more humour and the whole plenty to do type sidequest things was just so much more fun, especially goron rolling! I think OoT was good, but being as it was hailed so much when it came out it just seems to be fulfilling its reputation type thing, like everyone said it was good so everyone thinks it is. MM was just...good. I like the time aspect and stuff, the different things, being able to redo temples(though lack of temples wasn't so cool) but all in all it was like what OoT was but improved! I think I'm gonna vote for it.

I've not really given this thread much time, but I'm gonna post, read and maybe edit.
Firstly though, I can't help but shake the feeling that someone edited the poll. lol.
Anyway, OoT, with reason, is generally considered one of the best video games EVER, and there hasn't really been a follow up to THAT game until Twilight Princess. OoT is vast. I remember first getting into Hyrule Field, and being blown away by it. The lifespan of the game is great and quite frankly, OoT deserves to be one of prehaps 2 or 3 games that EVERY SINGLE N64 owner should have.
MM, on the other hand, is my fave of the two. Some of the puzzles are trickier, and the bombers handbook is the best sidequest of either game.
And then, you have the groundhog day aspect of it. It could take you the full 72 hours to work out where the next dungeon is and how to actually enter the dungeon, or you may end up with 12 hours left, tossing up between getting the last two fairy pieces and hotfooting it to the great fairy, or killing the boss and getting the next mask.
Yeah, guess what - can't be bothered to edit, lol.
Tell a lie: EDIT: Knight Football... I'm not sure you're making friends, but you do seem to be spamming the thread a bit.

Majora's Mask is far superior. With more puzzles and longer Dungeons, alongside the ability to kill the bosses over again, and sometimes needing to makes it the better game hands down. With a mass amount of side-quests, some required, and some optional, it easily beats Ocarina of Time's small array of sidequests and extra activities. (Plus, you're just GIVEN the double magic meter in OoT... You have to work for it in MM)

Sidequests dont make a zelda game. What makes a good zelda game is the story, chars, graphics, environments, gameplay, and music. And OoT wins in all these departments.

Here's my response to your requirements:
Story
I won't give you that. One is to rescue a town and prevent the moon from destroying the world. OoT simply has "Rescue the princess and land".
Characters
I will NOT give you that! You were much more involved with these characters, you got to know them, and got to see their life. They also did things, unlike in OoT.
Graphics
Majora's Mask's were better, and that's an actual fact. It's not opinion, they were better, says several different sources.
Environments
You mean like "Place" environments? If so, Majora's Mask had a great variety. OoT had none. If you meant like "Setting/tone" environments, I might OoT that, since it was a bit more cheery.
Gameplay
Hardly. Majora's Mask had superior game play. Epona rode faster, the enemies were more difficult, and it was just much smoother in general.
Music
Majora's Mask did have some pretty good music, like in the observatory, inside the clock tower, or in the Milk Bar. We also saw some older music from other games. This game also had some powerful music (Sounds corny, I know.)
---------------------
The dungeons in OoT weren't any fun either, and the only boss I enjoyed was Twinrova. The others, I was glad to be rid of them. In Majora's Mask, they were all fun, especially when you had the Fierce Deity Mask... :P

I won't give you that. One is to rescue a town and prevent the moon from destroying the world. OoT simply has "Rescue the princess and land".
They both boil down to a saving the world plot. Typical plot, no denying. One just has the key world destruction element stolen from FF7. Minus the long-haired pretty-boy with the mother fixation. And the "let's go to the moon" thing stolen from FFIV. :^:
I will NOT give you that! You were much more involved with these characters, you got to know them, and got to see their life. They also did things, unlike in OoT.
I'd still prefer to spend my time saving the world than solving their petty little problems.
Majora's Mask's were better, and that's an actual fact. It's not opinion, they were better, says several different sources.
This is actually true, and I would hope so because it is the most recent game, but I'm not going to give MM much credit for this considering all the character models borrowed from OoT.
Hardly. Majora's Mask had superior game play. Epona rode faster, the enemies were more difficult, and it was just much smoother in general.
Upgraded =/ superior. It was treeked. It wouldn't be awesome in the first place w/o OoT. And that side jump thing still bothers me.
Majora's Mask did have some pretty good music, like in the observatory, inside the clock tower, or in the Milk Bar. We also saw some older music from other games. This game also had some powerful music (Sounds corny, I know.)
MM has the worst in-game rendition of the classic Zelda overworld theme.
Gerudo Fortress. Saria's Song/ Lost Woods. The Bolero of Fire. Twinrova's fight music.
The dungeons in OoT weren't any fun either, and the only boss I enjoyed was Twinrova. The others, I was glad to be rid of them. In Majora's Mask, they were all fun, especially when you had the Fierce Deity Mask... :PTwinrova was fun. So were Bongo Bongo, Barinade, Phantom Ganon, to name my other fav's.
Also - Dark Link.
Also also - The final fight against Ganon is an incredibly awesome (visually, and musically - and they even managed to leave the chorus at home) final battle even if it is not hard.
I don't, but if you feel that strongly, why not move it into the game section so that way posts won't count?
Not fair to those who have made serious discursive posts. I'm moving it back.
I'm also editting the poll to the 2 legit options and calling for a ceasefire on that. No result editting either. Might merge a new poll in and make it public. As amusing as this was, it is leading to too much off-topicness.
Any off topic posts not related to which game is better and why will earn a SPAM warning. This includes "Inlé just won't admit she's wrong" or "Milo, give it up, already." This is about the games.
And Hawkju was a mod of the OoT forum from ages and ages past.
Ok. new poll up. Go vote! :)

And of course Milo's favorite Zelda game is being trounced. Why some ask? It is simple:
1. While the grapics are pactically identical, OoT gets the point for doing it fist, and no improvement when MM came out.
2. Same story in essentials. People run around, screaming "omg, I'm gonna die if some little kid doesn't come save t world". OoT gets th point for a more traditional version.
3. Characters aren't that big of a deal, as reallonly a few ever really matter. No points awarded (Though I am tempted to give a point to OoT for Malon's singing of Epona's Song).

So you're giving points to a game that was "So new", that it had to copy the storyline from another game? At least in Majora's Mask, it was original...

Why change the graphics of a direct sequal? The oracles were meant to be sequals, and their graphics weren't different. All the other games just fell somewhere in there. MM was SUPPOSED to come after OoT...

I can't say much on this one, because it does truly depend on the person. I personally like a lot of interaction, and not as much fighting, but others are the opposite. I found that Majora's Mask had an equal balance of what I like. OoT would be better for those who like to fight more....

Well, I guess I can look at this more carefully... I'll be playing both games this week... :D (I do enjoy OoT, just not as much as MM...)

Oot and MM are the same good in my eyes. Oot Is a classic and has more temples, but MM has harder temples and you can collect a lot of useful stuff, too (what I really do like). That's why I think both are the same good.

I like the fighting more, and that's another reason I like OOT better.

The polls may not be entirely accurate...
Actually, Inle, may I (Or you/zelda) edit it to include a "I like them equally" option?
And yes, the turtle bit is rather fun... I just merely found that there was so much more to do once you had beaten the game's boss the first time around....

De Nile may not be just a river in Egypt.
Actually, Inle, may I (Or you/zelda) edit it to include a "I like them equally" option?Added it. Was temped to call it "Lousy fence-sitter option".

I guess. I just really like all of OoT's dungeons. Even the dreaded water temple is second nature to me. I haven't played MM in a while because I was never all that impressed with it. I hardly remember how to do anything in that game.

hmm. the water temple was the only thing that made me mad about OoT. but i must say, OoT's temples were better created, but i just found the bosses were sometimes a little bit too easy. with MM the temples were almost too puzzly for me. i got stuck so much in the stone and snowhead temples. but the bosses were new, and you got to be a new creature for every fight (or else you'd die)
i think they are both great games :D
and the turtle pwned the noobz :^:

Milo, I think you'd like RPGs more than Zelda games (action/adventure) if you love interaction with lots of NPCs you'll never see again.

For me, MM wins. I really love all the sidequests and details of peoples' characters you can find in it, and I also find it more fun... If I've got some time to waste on my N64, I'm way more likely to play through the Kafei and Anju quest or go Goron racing after defeating Goht than to fire up OoT. MM's more emotional to me, and the story really hits home with how it's actual people you're saving - you're not just going off to some big castle that's pretty much removed from the townsfolk's everyday lives, you're literally stopping everyone from dying, from the swordsman who's crying in the back of his shop, to the postman who's pleading with himself to leave but feels too tied to his schedule to escape, to the little girl who's getting her first taste of Chateau Romani because her sister knows this is probably the last chance she'll get...

What, Shigsy? He's still the supremeo when it comes to all things Zelda. I know that he was executive producer on both games, probably designed half of OoT, and besides Miyamoto, a lot of the main design team probably stayed on. I mean, OoT took 3 years to make, and 18 months after it's release, MM rolled out. They probably didn't even have to renew their contracts, lol.

I agree with what Showsni said. The game is a lot more personal. You're not just running around trying to save a land that will be put into an evil time, you're trying to prevent people from dying. You also get to know the characters a little more, and a lot of the sidequests are fun. It has more storyline to it, and just more detailed in general.
Once again, I absolutely loved OoT, I just like MM more... :P

Now, I'm more of an MM guy than an OOT guy if push came to shove, but you MUST! PLAY! OCARINA! OF! TIME!!!!
There's a reason why, two computer generations later, OoT is still considered one of the best video games ever made ever.

I agree, OoT is a MUST PLAY game! It's absolutely fantastic, and is one of my favorite games of all time! However... I simply find that Majora's Mask was more exciting and interesting.

Well if you can scrounge up the money, try Ebay or a local CD pawn shop. You'd be surprised what you can find.

I know I've seen the Zelda Collector's Edition Disk for Gamecube around, and that has both MM and OoT. The game really does look better on the GCN, (despite some stupid changes they made i.e. Mirror Shield design), because the N64's hardware is meh.
If you have a Wii, you can buy it on Virtual Console for $10, and I think that's the N64 version (likely 1.2).

Ocarina of Time has an epic story. Majora's Mask has a deep story. I like both types of storylines, so I'm neutral here.
