Name Puns

I think everyone knows that Uzumaki means "Spiral", Naruto is something you put on top of ramen, and... er... just look at the pictures here (http://www.narutospain.com/index.php?s=comentarios&id=40&noticia=Significado_de_Naruto) or the one here (http://www.tjf.or.jp/deai/contents/teacher/mini_en/pic_mini/k0253.jpg) if you're still confused.

Anyhoo, I was playing GNT4 and realised that Iruka's name is more than just a translation of the word "Dolphin", his full name is Umino Iruka... which can be translated to Dolphin of the Sea.

Add to that I just read that Kakashi means "scarecrow" (need to confirm it as the site I was reading mis-spelled Uzumaki, I wondered whether you guys had found any others.

I think that in episode 101 there is a motiff of name puns...

Ahh, here we go:
At one point, Kakashi says "Hmm... So Junko said that... 'I'm going to lose track of you'." This is a reference to Naruto's seiyū voice actor, Junko Takeuchi.
The episode makes visual references to Kakashi Hatake's name. At one point, Sakura is fooled by a decoy that was a scarecrow (案山子, kakashi?). Later, the team was sent on a mission to a farmland (畑, hatake?, lit. dry field).

I know Hinata Hyuuga is something like "a sunny place" (Hinata), and "toward the sun" (Hyuuga)

I just checked that out... put Hinata's name into kanji and it repeats...

日向 = Hyuuga (towards the sun - literal meaning)
日向 = Hinata (sunny place/in the sun - usual meaning)

Although her name is spelled with katakana. I'll have to look into other names like that.

Well, Kabuto's team is named after parts of armor. I know Kabuto is helmet, and I forget the other two.

Kurenai means Crimson, I believe. Pretty much every name is a pun. I don't know if that is part of Japanese culture, or if the creator just wanted lols.
