View Full Version : Post Count Reset

I think it may be time for a massive forum-wide post count reset. We could wipe the post counts of all the members who aren't mods. That might make them angry, but in the end they'll learn that it is for the better. Of course, they may not get over it, but who cares? Post counts are starting to get out of control. New members get 100 posts in like two days. This needs to end. We could even set a post cap per day.

I'm not a fan of the idea. I could really see an "uproar" resulting from this. Now a reputation reset...

I think resetting EVERY member's is a little extreme. However, I agree that it's a problem. I have one guy gunning for 5k posts ASAP. The others are trying for 1000+.

I personally think we should have some sort of thing that subtracts posts after the fourth post in a 24 hour period. That'll greatly cut down on the SPAM.

But I'm so close to 10,000.

Heh. I'd be all for making post counts invisible without clicking on userprofiles though. I liked it better when they used to be that way.

If we do a post count cap, like Goku has suggested, it shouldn't apply to moderators because we are made of awesome have to do mod stuff - warning, splitting, closing, etc.

This thread should have a poll so we can get a democratic consensus about the mods' opinions.

Yea I agree with Inle, post reset for members, not for mods

Sounds good to me. The members don't need to know about it either. Just spring it on 'em at random.

Maybe we should do it before someone gets to a monumental milestone.

do it april first and tell them it is just a temporary april fools thing and then don't put them back.

Make sure not to announce it until some people have asked though.

I think we deserve the posts we have, most of them are constructive and shouldn't be deleted. Besides, we are running the forums for them.

I lost 15,000 posts last time there was a post count reset.

So what if I requested it? I want them back, damnit. :D

Of course we wouldn't apply it to moderators. I thought that was a given.

It was, but I originally missed where you said it in the first post. My bad.

Wait, I came up with a great alternative. Since they would probably get mad if all their posts just disappeared, what we could do is, unannounced, start decreasing their post counts little by little. The only way they could counter-act this is by posting a lot, so we could warn them for SPAM and give them a reset.

That would fill the questions forum with too many stupid topics. And it would be a lot of unnecessary work.

Plus, it's better to do a great unkindness in one blow than many over time. Memories fade over time, but to keep decreasing the counts would just be rubbing salt over and over again. I don't here anyone complaining anymore about when the rep system was reset.

Well, it would likely make spammers quit GW for good, so that's a plus. But still, I don't know if it's really fair to members. At the very least, however, I don't think mods should be included in a reset...well maybe Erik. He has way too many posts.

That's because the system got skewed by admins having fun.

I remember when you had fewer posts than I did. It's becoming a long long looooong time ago.

only because the point at which i passed you has not changed so even if i only remained one post a head of you every day it would become a long long looooong time ago.

i was only skewed by hawk, but i wasn't the only one so it evened out.

That's because everyone who actually cared has opened the bathroom window, filled up their tub, hopped in, and dyed the water red by now.
