The Riders of Reiterin
This is a rider clan based mainly off of the Inheritance Trilogy of books by Christopher Paolini.
Reiterin is a large country in which many races live. Although not as peacefully as some might think (or hope in some cases).
Small Towns and villages that lack the walls that the big cities have are routinely ransacked by the wild. ‘The Wild’ – A group of sentient creatures that despise the riders and their ways of acting, etc. They refuse to interact with friendly relations to any other being not a part of their group, unless they want you to join.
These small towns are guarded by rider outposts, in which small squads of riders trade shifts occasionally to protect the towns from ‘The Wild’.
Most larger cities that are big centers of commerce have large walls surrounding the city, to repel ‘The Wild’. The city of Tyrna is the capital city of Reiterin. It houses the Reiterin Government. One of the other major cities is located on a small island name Krio off the western coast. The city of Krio is the location of the rider council.
Tyrna- The capital city of Reiterin. The rich and the government live in this city. The walls house the Reiterin government council, who keep the country running day after day.
Krio- This city holds the rider council, dedicated to the protection of Reiterin.
The Rider Council
An organization of those with the gift of being a rider. When their gift surfaces, the council finds them and brings them to Krio. They come to train, and hone their skills as riders, and to help protect the country. The main leaders of the council are the High Riders, those who have proven themselves strong enough to lead. The ranks below are Senior Riders, Experienced Riders, and Apprentice Riders. Those who are of the Experienced rank and above each take on an apprentice, to whom they are to teach and pass on knowledge to. The Master and apprentice usually have similar mounts, but this doesn’t mean that a dragonrider has ever taken on a wolfrider apprentice. Once a year, eggs are presented to the children of around age 14 and new riders are brought to the council. For the mammal mounts [Dire Wolf] each time a mother has a new litter, and the pups are weaned from their mother, they are presented to the children. This isn't as regular as the egg ceremony.
Rider Ranks
High Riders ~ Those who have proven themselves truly capable of leading.
Senior Riders ~ Those who have gained plentiful experience and can be relied on by others. Usually the head of outposts throughout Reiterin.
Experienced Riders ~ Those who have passed the final test of their masters to surpass the apprentice level.
Apprentice Riders ~ New riders who are just learning basic magics and other abilities.
Mount Descriptions
Dragon~ Physical characteristics of dragons also vary but several consistencies are usually present. The beasts are typically depicted as huge lizards, larger than elephants on average. Long fangs are generally accepted as are twin horns of varying length. Western cultures generally include large bat-like wings giving the dragon the capability of flight. Most dragons will be covered in scales, although there are some with a leathery skin. Coloring ranges the entire gamut of the spectrum but red, green, black and gold appear to be the most common. It is also generally accepted that most dragons are magical creatures in nature and have the ability to breathe fire (as a weapon). Some dragons may have a modification in this breath weapon (frost, lightning, gas)
Griffon~ The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head, beak and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion and occasionally the tail of a serpent or scorpion.
Phoenix~ The phoenix is a large reddish or goldish color bird that can be as large as a horse. it has the ability for fire manipulation and burns and is reborn from the ashes every 500 - 1500 years.
Winged Sphinx~ For the sake of this Rp, a Sphinx will be a wild cat of the RPers choice with wings that can talk:) Its also fairly big. The sphinx loves to speak or ask in riddles.
Manticore~ The manticore, considered to be the most dangerous predator in these regions, has the body of a lion and a head with human resemblance. The mouth is filled with three rows of razor-sharp teeth and the scaled tail ends in a ball with poisonous darts. The monster stalks through the forest in search of humans.
Roc~ The roc is a very large bird capable of carrying elephants away. The roc is a magical creature, but it's magical capabilities are extremly variable.
Pegasus~ A magical winged horse that is usually a white coloration.
Unicorn~ The unicorn is a legendary animal. It is usually portrayed as a slender, white horse with a spiraling horn on its forehead. The horn itself is white at the base, black in the middle and with a sharp, red tip. It is believed to possess healing abilities. Dust filed from the horn was thought to protect against poison, and many diseases. It could even resurrect the dead.
Dire Wolf~ The dire wolf is a very large wolf, sometimes bigger than a horse. The dire wolf's howl can instill fear into some that hear it. They can run just as fast as any of the flying mounts can fly.
