ITT, we answer the question that the bookstores and everyone else are asking. Is the Snape formerly known as potions master friend or fiend?

Wouldn't making the unbreakable vow make him a foe then? I mean, as I stated in a previous post, he had a choice didn't he? No one thought Draco would actually succeed at killing Dumbledore. Who would blame Snape for not wanting to take on the most powerful wizard alive?
You're forgetting that the death eaters are the most hard-core, loyal fools in the HP universe. They are very much akin to Charles Manson's followers who laid down their lives for the possibility that he could continue to live. He would have lost face with the death eaters had he refused to enter the vow with Narcissa, and, for someone who had spent almost 2 decades snuggled up to "the enemy", losing face is about the last thing he would want to do. It would have made them question his loyalty to Voldemort. Hence, for him to have stayed the inside man, he had to enter into the vow, and, by extension, kill Dumbledore. Besides, do you really think Dumbledore didn't know what was going on?

I don't think he could have not known. But I also think that a lot of us, including myself, still fall into the trap of thinking him infallible.
On Another note:
~Poll Closed~ as midnight in the UK is only about 4 hours away. I might be posting who voted what later for our general amusement as I neglected to make this poll public. ;)

That's entirely wrong. They operate out of fear for their lives and to not be punished for failure, likely by cruciatus, not out of loyalty. Agreeing with his ideology about muggles is somewhat important, but belief in a cause and loyalty to a leader of the cause are completely different things.

Whichever way it turns out, there have been a few really good theories from both sides!

Really? You think the followers like Beatrix LeStrange followed him out of fear? The same could be said of Manson, Hitler, Hussein, and plenty of others in our world.

Bellatrix was more of an exception than a rule.

What about the rest of his inner circle? If his followers truly just followed him from fear, then they wouldn't have supported his return to power. The Malfoys, for example, were instrumental in this.

i know i voted friend, but i do not care which he is as long as they explain it. if it is just "harry i've always been loyal to dumbledore" as the explanation, my guessing right would not have been worth it.
