Here is a place where readers can post their weekly recommendations for things they are enjoying. These things can be movies, games, music, readings, etc. People can also discuss what they thought about the other person's recommendations.

Mine for week of December 31st:
Reel Big Fish/Zoloft the Rock and Roll Destroyer Split EP, out Feb. 20th (http://www.myspace.com/duetallnightlong)
Counter-Strike 1.6
A Florida Gator Win.

Game: I'm enjoying the old game Rayman 2: Revolution. Simple, sweet.

Music: Several albums and a DVD by Stephen Lynch. He's funny and disturbed. Some of the songs are stupid but others are priceless. Also, the music of German rock band "En Extremo". Heavy metal with lead bagpipes = awesome stuff!

Music: Pyramaze. Progressive-Metal from America. Currently in-between singers, but their latest album "Legend of the Bone Carver" is a story album that sounds like it came from J.R.R. Tolkien. I recommend checking them out for some great metal that doesn't sound anything like what we hear on the radio.

Game: Bully. Everyone knows Guitar Hero, so I skipped ahead to Bully. It's GTA in a boarding school/town. It's smaller, but much more memorable seeing as each schoolmate is his or her own character rather than a repetitive NPC. I rank it above most of the GTA's available. It's that good.

Music: I agree with Pyramaze!

Games: CounterStrike, I finally got into it, and it's excellent.

Things: Broadband. ...what, so what if everyone has it already?!

Television Shows: 24! Starting next week. WATCH IT!

Game: Rainbow Six Vegas. I haven't even played the single player yet. Why? Because the multiplayer is just that good.

Things: I got myself a pair of Escrim sticks. I'm already trained in the use of the staff and sword. It's time to try something different.

Games: Battlefield 2 because of the suburb multiplayer.

I could never get into Battlefield 2 online... there was just something about it that seemed slow. I used to play Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat online all the time and had a blast with those... it was more fast paced to me. They seemed to have slowed everything down in 2.

Yes, it's old, but I'm really enjoyinh Fight Club again. If you've never seen it, you need to, because it's an absolutely amazing movie.

Also, Reno 911 is incredible as well, Third Season is only 20 bucks, I'd suggest a look-in to it.

Music: Dipset, if you like rap.

Game: Gears of War - It is a simply amazing game that everyone should rent or own.

Phoenix
February 5th, 2007, 04:21 PM
Movies: Yeah it's a little late but I watched Crank, insane flick.

Games: Gears of War, indeed an incredible game, even though mine is unreadable now, kind of weird since I havn't taken it out of the console in a day or so.

Also, friend of mine offered to switch my Oblivion for his Rainbow Six: Vegas for a week or two, think I'm going to do that as soon as I can.

Fall Out Boy's Infinity On High comes out tomorrow. So what if they got big? They are still a really good band (this is their 4th full length CD not counting EPs).

Can't really suggest much about music. I just pick songs that sound awesome to me.

Games: I recently got CS 1.6. It's nice when playing in a friendly environment. I have Gears of War, but I can't really suggest it to anyone because of my dyslexia to shooters. I'm going with Monster Hunter on the PS2, only if you have online that is. That or Monster Hunter Freedom for the PSP. Nothing is quite as satisfying as slaying a Lao-Shan Lung for the first time in a while. Or watch as a Ratholos twitches in the induced stun you have given him.

I recommend that everyone go out and at least rent the movie "Little Miss Sunshine." I saw it in the theaters a while back and just bought the DVD. It's such a well crafted, introspective comedy that we haven't seen done in quality this well in a while. If anything, watch it for Steve Carrell's disjoined run.

As for television, the Office has hit its stride once again and is pumping out great episodes like earlier seasons had after a little bit of a slow start. It's a little difficult to get into without knowing the past episodes to get characterisations and background info to add to the comedy, but it is totally worth it. I started watching halfway through season 2 and watched it from the beginning in the following week. It is an amazing show.

The Office is damn good. Jim and Dwight are my favorite part of that show; they're freakin' hilarious. Another TV show that's proven to be awesome, in my opinion, is House. I highly recommend it.

In the miscellaneous category, I really want to ghost ride my car somewhere in the greater Seattle area. Something about the idea tickles my pickle; I just need to assemble a group of friends who are as shameless as I am.

"The Office" may be awesome, but "My Name Is Earl" kicks butt.

For Miscallenous, one of my friends told me he once slapped a cop and said, "Is that bacon cooking?" and ran.

Beha
February 7th, 2007, 07:28 PM
So are you recommending that we all run up to a cop and do that? Sounds like a great idea....

The Office is quite good, I will agree with you on that. I still think that 24 though is the best show currently on television, although it is a little late to get into it this season, the DVDs are a great way to start off. That or the internet always has ways to catch up on current seasons, lol.

Music: Devo, described by Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore as "the greatest punk rock band that ever lived", must be the most under-appreciated band in the history of popular music. You owe it to yourself to give them a try.

TV: Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe. This excellent BBC Four programme is like a deranged points of view, although instead of the general public contributing their opinions on the state of British TV, the task is given to the devastatingly witty Mr. Brooker, who piles into the dross on our screens in a satirical, and often surreal manner. Watch it!

Game: Okami. This game just came out in the UK, and it is as good as all the reviews say it is. It employs the tried and true Zelda formula, but still manages to remain fresh and inventive, thanks largely to its ridiculously pretty graphics, which are remarkable to behold on the ps2's doddering hardware. It's a longish romp, so make sure you have time for it before diving in.

TV shows: Lost. Most definitely. It's confusing sometimes, but it's so mysteriously cool. ^_^

Anime: Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Ruroni Kenshin, and of course the awsome anime that is Trigun. Naruto is okay as well, but it's shown a bit too much right now... >_>

Cartoons: Idk... most of what's out is pretty stupid. Past shows, and classic cartoons own all of what's out today. Two of my favorite past cartoons series are probably Gargoyals and Invader Zim.

Music: ...Don't know, lol. I'm not an obsessor. I just listen to stuff that sounds good. XD I like stuff from Evanesance though... >_> My Immortal is pretty awsome.

Movies: Meh... I'm not thrilled by much of what's out, so I can't recommend anything. I usually save my cash and wait till movies come to tv.

Maybe the fact that a lot of people still like "Seven Ways to Scream Your Name" and sit and wonder why you would give that up to play what they currently do.

Bands: Circle Takes the Square ****ing amazing. May take a bit to get into, but once you understand the theory behind it all, you'll realize that this band is the equivalent of Jesus coming down and baking you a homemade plate of brownies
