Anyway. If you're not looking for a foot mount, most cowbells are pretty similar. Just get around a 6" and a drumstick and rock out.

So they can be either foot operated or handheld? And, if I get the foot op. does it come boxed with everything or would I need to know what gear goes with it? Also, do brand names count or if you've seen one cow bell, you've seen them all?

The guy in the pic is playing his handheld. Does that eventually cause damage to the hand, all the vibrations. This is for a 12 yr. old.

Thanks for the advice.

If you want a foot operated one, you'll have to buy a pedal and bracket, most companies usually don't sell them together. And brand names only count if you're looking for quality and variety. LP makes great percussion instruments, so that's one to look into. Most run about $20 American. Also try to look for one with a piece of plastic-like material near the open end of the bell, it will help protect it from bending when hit with a stick.

About the hand damage, everything should be fine, as long as he/she is playing it properly.

Final question (s), is this instrument usual stock for any music store? Does it come in only one Kind (meaning sound quality, like saxex)? And finally, wold you rather play one that's handheld or mounted?

Thanks for all your help guys, I feel better about making a purchase now. I hate buying something like this without knowing abything about it. The salespeople look at you funny and try and pawn crap off on ya.

Yeah, they'll be in every music store. and, If you play drums, mounted to your set. If you're going to Will Farrell it, just hold it.

Yup! A budding drummer. Okay, so I'll need to get the cow bell, the stand, and brace for it. Also look for one with a plastic widener...and if it's from LP, it's all good. Thanks a million guys. Enjoy your Holidays.

Ah too late to help im sure, but there isnt that much of brand names when it comes to cow bells, any brand does well. For a drummer it can be set up anywhere but i have it right next to my high hat stand between that and the highest tom, and i have 3. They can be attached to the bass drum or to the stand, so find out where your son wants to set it up on his drum kit to see which part you have to buy to mount it.

Or you could just do like my buddy it and ghetto-rig it by duct taping and krazy glueing it to your hi-hat stand about a half foot below the cymbols. It was kinda funny, because he had to use a razor blade to get all the tape off when he wanted to reposition it.

...Or you can spend the $20 and get an adaptor for the thing, and branch it off of the hi-hat stand or a cymbal stand, or anything else.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure how to sneak a question like that I on a kid without his next question being..."are you getting me a cow bell?" I try though.

Hi Legend, ltns...drop me a PM sometime. You and the other guys offering help, have a great holiday.
