ok so here's my current set-up (Nuthin special)

200W Line 6 Spider II Amp
1975ish Gibson Les Paul Imitation
RP300 effects board/pedal (I almost never use it nowadays cause it needs a new AC adapter and my amp has plenty of effects)

I have recently been looking into purchasing a new guitar. My current guitar just seems a little too old and cheap for where Im at right now. I've always been a fan of the Gibsons and Epiphones. I am specifically interested in the new Gibson SG Menace and the classic SG.

If any of you guitar owners here at Gamewinners has any experience with the SG Menace or the classic SG any Info on how it works for you and what you use with it would be appreciated. It would be awesome if anyone has any info or experience on using those guitars with a Line 6 amp similar to mine. If I were to purchase one I would be using it for gigs and Live shows so also any info on how it plays on stage would be great too.

If you have a great guitar you want to suggest I also appreciate that but Im specifically looking at the SG. Thanks in advance for sharing any info and opinions you have. :D

I've got a buddy who plays a bright yellow SG through a Fender blues amp, and it sounds really raw and dirty, which is perfect for the grungy sort of hard rock they play.

What style of music were you going to use it for?

Well I usually Play Hard Rock and Metal but not so much the Grunge stuff. Kinda Older Rock and Metal like GnR, Metallica, Kiss, Motley Crue, Megadeth. Also Some newer metal like Trivium. I even switch it up sometimes and jam out some Chili Peppers or Skynard so as you can see I'm all over the place lol but mostly metal.

I played a Gibson SG Sandard at a concert I played in once, and I fell in love with it about halfway through the set. If you feel like dropping a grand into a guitar, I'd go with the standard.

Ya I'm serioulsy considering investing in an SG. They just look awesome and I've heard the sound is amazing. I have one Tattooed on my leg so I might as well own one eh? lol

Hmm, my friend bought an SG standard after working a ****load to buy it and he said that he hated it. He told me it wasn't worth the grand either.

A little after he bought the Kirk Hammet guitar which runs at about 1.3k if I remember correctly. He loves it but I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet so I can't speak from personal experience.

It all depends on preference. My preference is the untraditional guitar body designs so that's why I like BC Rich. As your preference is Gibson/Epiphone I'd agree with Cluck and go with the SG. It sounds incredible, but also look at all many professionals use it and it works fine for them. Angus Young, James Hetfield, John Frusicante, and the list goes on and on.

And if you ever want to try a new pedal instead of the amp effects, I highly recommend Dan Donegan's (guitarist for Disturbed) signature pedal The Weapon and/or a Weeping Demon Wah from Ibanez. Call me crazy, but I find that he Demon is better for Wah then a Crybaby.
