I noticed you guys have listed variants of the contra chead codes.
one of which is unlimited lives(instead of three extra lives, or 30):
up down up down left right left right a b a b select start.
I was curious to what contra game that was, and if it was to the original NES version of the game and if it was in fact a code.
Thanks =)
Glad to be here

This is the CORRECT code for ALL of Konami's game Gyruss,Contra Etc
UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START. You DON'T need to push the SELECT button.
hope this helps
Sincerely

This site has it posted that there is an "unlimited lives"
which is up down up down left right left right a b a b select (+ start optional)
DOES this work for nintendo?
I know it's origins is from gryzor / probotector (international) before it was released in US as contra. But does it work for contra also?

There is only one code for contra and that is as follows:
UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A (SELECT FOR 2 PLAYERS) START.
Now, you might need to press "B" "A" twice. Konami used this same code for a large quanity of games released for various systems over the years. They even made slight alterations to the code to accomidate the different controllers. As for Gyruss, the code is completely backwards. Just start with the "A" button.
As for having "unlimited lives" in Contra with this code, that is a simple misconseption. You receive 30 lives with at least 3 continues each with 30 lives. So, that is 120 lives in addition to the extra lives you receive along the way by acheiving certian point levels.

THANKS GOOFY!
So, with that in mind... what does this website (gamewinners) mean with having unlimited lives and said cheat code?
viewable here:
gamewinners.com/nes/Contra.htm
Does anyone have an NES? Mind trying to put in the "unlimited lives" cheat (up down up down left right left right a b a b select /start) to see what happens?
THANKS!

I find it sort of funny that gamewinners has the cheat listed... but nobody knows what version of contra it is actually for. These sort of things should be specified, not to sound annoyed ... but it's sort of frustrating trying to place the code to the title. :bah:

as said, its for all of Konami's early games...
as for the code, CONTRA, the original, being as that is the game selected...

so: up up down down left right left right a b (a b) start (select start)
is the original contra code.
what is: up down up down left right left right a b a b start (select start) for then?
any mods have the answer to this question? anyone with a NES with original want to test the second code to see if it works?
There are two of these codes listed for contra, obviously up up down down, is the original and it works, but what about the second one up down up down?
:bashhead:
I'm sorry, up up down down left right left right b a b a start (select start) ****
and
up down up down left right left right left right a b a b select start ?

My guess is that it's just wrong and probably shouldn't be there as I have never heard of it and probably would have used it long ago had it existed.

thank you zelden.
if anyone has an NES/Contra (I'm going to try to find one myself)
please just give the code a shot and post the results if possible.

There's another bunk code for an "alternate ending" or somesuch nonsense.
Maybe they're Famicom codes???
