Once when i was younger, i laid down and literally thought i had blinked and it was the next day. I couldn't remember being in bed for any length of time over 3 seconds before it was suddenly morning.

So what weird sleep stuff has happened to you?

In a sense, but its a dream starting up before I am passed out. This has only happened twice to me. Kinda of hard to put into words, but its like any dream you have when your asleep, your not really in control of what your thinking and whats going to be happening, in other words you cant forsee what your brain is thinking/creating like in a day dream you have, it all just creates on its own. If that doesnt make much sense then just ignore this post.

that has happened to me multiple times, not for 7 or 8 years though. I remember, I was so tired, I lied down in bed, blinked and suddenly it was light. I was like OMFGWTFBBQCHIPS!

ya i think i know what you mean. When your not completley out and yet you are dreaming. Its not a full dream with any detail, just what seems like a little glimpse or a few seconds of something. Whenever that happens to me something will happen in my dream suddenly and my body will jump or do almost a full body twitch and i'll be awake agian.

It's called "hypnagogic imagery". It's a normal part of the sleep process experienced to varying degrees.

Well it's rare but every once in a while when I sleep I'll wake up by a twitch in one of my limbs. Like I'll be sound asleep and my leg will twitch and I'll wake up and I'm like "What the hell?" It usually occurs most when I'm starting to drift into deep sleep (Light sleep I guess?)

That's actually not that rare. It can be a side effect of the medication "Klonopin". But it's also a common phenomema known as a "hypnic jerk". CLICK HERE (http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2291.html) to learn more about it.

Wow I didn't know it was so common. And I don't take "Klonopin" if that's what you were thinking. But yes...interesting. Anybody else experience these "hypnic jerks" that I have?

I only mentioned that because a lot of people are prescribed the medication. Usually for things such as epilepsy and anxiety disorders. Though, if I was unclear, most hypnic jerks have nothing to do with any drug.

Ironically, about an hour after my last post, I got one of the leg jerks as I was just about too enter deep sleep :D

I know what you're talking about with the dreaming but still awake thing. that used to happen to me a lot, but it went away. Like when I was little I had this reoccuring dream that I was on a building and my sister would jump on my back and we'd fall off. a few times I was awake but still dreaming that and I'd fall off the bed.
and another time when I was little I got up at 5:00 and no one was up so I was going downstairs and when I got to the bottom it was 6:00 and my dad was up then. I wasn't aware of the hour I spent on the stairs.

I've had the thing where you're sound asleep and all of a sudden the body spasms violently like you fell into bed from a great height. I won't actually dream I'm falling, it'll just happen. It only happens to me rarely, tho.

A "twitch"... Is that one o' them sudden movements you don't intend to make but you still do? If so, I once kicked a friend in the nuts because of one... He wouldn't believe I didn't kick him on purpose. He didn't talk to me anymore for a day. Wich is weird because, I'm really weak and normally when I want to punch/kick someone they're like: "Dude, that barely tickles." and they don't even move. :bashhead:

Sometimes I "dream" my mom tells me I gotta get ready for school and I slept in or something, then, immediatly after I wake up, and get dressed. Ussually I notice it's about 2 A.M. about then but once I went downstairs, walked in the room and told my parents I was just gonna make a sandwich and be on my way. My parents couldn't stop laughing the next morning. :D

I have that all the time. Though, I'm starting to have a suspicioun they're not entirely "random"... I have a small suspicioun they mean something... Literally, metaphorically, whatever the case, I can't believe they're random.

I've never actually done anything that weird, but I did fall asleep on the phone with my bf once. (I was sick) and he got me to say some pretty embarrassing stuff.

It only happens to me rarely, tho.I saw about that on a TV show once, and apparently it's an instinct from back when we still apes, warning us about a danger that aren't there. Possibly something bugged in our DNA, can't tell for sure though.

Actually the reason people sometimes twitch or have spasms while their asleep is simply because your muscles are tense. It mainly happens when you've been stressed all day, or didn't give your body time to wind down before you fell asleep. Its just your bodies way of relieving the tension in your muscles. Basically its getting your body relaxed so it can go into a deep sleep.

Yay for Psychology class.

I haven't done anything weird that I know of. But when I was a little kid my younger brother was a real bad sleep walking. And one time he got up and peed in the fridge.

the only logical explanation.. well.. illogical I guess actually... theonl explanaion I can thinki of out of experiane for those falling sensations is Astral Projection, quie ofton when those who are unskilled or compltely unaware of the fact that they have projected, eturn to their body, they experiane a long falling sensation and ofton feel like they've just fallen into their beds. I know because I was experiancing it also until I learned to control y projections... even thogh I still get lasy and let myself fall back from time to time... P.S. it's Dragon_Knight X talking... I find myself too lasy to log out of my wife's account anymore.

Hehe, my roommate talks in his sleep generally every night. I'm so tempted to strike up a conversation to see what I can get out of him.

gah, I hate that when it happens. It was a little different for me though... I just got home from a 10 hour shift at work. I just crashed on my bed, not wanting to get up at 10 the next day to start work. I closed my eyes for like 15 seconds... but then I remembered that I needed to set my alarm clock. So I opened my eyes, and realized it was 9:37 am... the next day. I felt like I got no sleep at all, and I was really mad. :(

I often do that as well. Did you know that it's also possible to be fully conscience during your dreams. I've been trying to teach that skill to another member here at GW. I really hope they can pull it off because it's truly one of the most amazing things a person can do. Once you learn and understand it there's nothing you can't do in your dreams. Think about it: conscience control over your dream while it's in progress. Oh yeah! We're talking lucidity baby

I had a weird sleep thing once. My friend stayed the night, so we were up most the night playing on games. Well, later in the day, I suddenly got tired, so I decided to have a nap. My friend was still at my house on the PS2. I started to fall asleep, but then, it felt like water was rising around me. I could feel it on my face and it felt like water had gone into my ear and stuff. Well, when I'd had enough of this, I tried to get up, and tell my friend, but, I couldn't move, talk or anything. I tried to get my friends attention by trying to shout him, but all that came out was a moan. I managed to open my eyes, I saw my friend look round at me while he was playing the game, but then my eyes started to close again and I couldn't open them. After a few minutes of trying to get my body to spasm sorta thing, I got control of my body again. That was probably the scariest bit ofmy life. Any ideas what it was??

It was probably just a hypnogogic Non-REM dream thing. You dream primarily in the REM stages of sleep but in the shallow, early stages of sleep, you often have lighter, less-vivid dreams that last for only short spans of time (up to a few minutes). Your body experiences sleep-paralysis when you lose consciousness so that you don't act out your dreams (which could be dangerous).

So, yeah, it was weird but it's nothing to fear.

When it did happen, I woke up, then I tried to go back to sleep and it happened again. And, I wasn't unconscious, and when it happened it was for about 5 minutes. After 2 or 3 tries I gave up trying to sleep.

I don't know if I ever told this here or not but a long time ago when I was living with a (past) girlfriend we were asleep and...

She had been having a big ongoing fight with her Mom. She had told me about it that day and I was all riled up. So my dream incorporated her Mom being mean to people. In the dream, her Mom had taken me into some dungeon to torture me or something. Her Mom reached out and grabbed my arm and I punched her.

Suddenly, I'm being awoken to my girlfriend saying, "Hey, why did you do that?" Apparently, I had actually punched my girlfriend's arm so I guess she bumped me, causing me to dream that her Mom had grabbed me. I felt so bad.

While listening to music while I sleep Generally Mae or The Beatles my mind creates strange music video scenarios. Alot of the time they are pretty cool.

I work at a wal*mart and occasionaly I'll dream that I'm dealing with a customer and I've said something really rude or stupid and I'm terrifed I'm going to get fired and then I kind of realize it's a dream and wake up. Generally when I realize I'm dreaming I wake up.
