View Full Version : Ultimate NFL Fantasy Draft (split #2)

Alright, we're pretty f*cked as far as time is concerned. I think we can try that "everyone gets on at a certain time" deal again. How is Wednesday evening from some time between 6 and 1 EST? I don't want to make it today or tomorrow in case not everybody checks this thread. If, say, 8 or more of the members can make it, we'll go with that and those who will not make it will send their lists of players to me. Why not send it to James? Well, he's grounded. And if you won't make it, post a time or two that works well for you from Wednesday morning till Thursday night.

Whoa. Wednesday is my only off day this week. Good fkn game. I should, at latest, be online at 10:30 PM. 'Cause we might be out getting items for college.
Pontus
August 7th, 2006, 02:09 PM
I'll draft Jeremy Shockey, TE.
As for times I'll be on.... Wednesday night will probably be a no for me. Thursday night may work though.

August 7th, 2006, 02:36 PM
Good. Well, if 3 more people are cool with Wednesday night, we'll do it then. I have James's list, and XZ said Wednesday night is fine for him from about 6-11. So 6:00 - 10:30 is the rough time now. I have to see what other people have planned before I set a specific time, but we probably won't be doing it for the entire 4 hours. We might start at 7 or something.
Dr. Doom
August 7th, 2006, 02:59 PM
we going to do it on here and just hit refresh a bunch of times, or find a chatroom / messenger?
smashbro14
August 7th, 2006, 03:03 PM
It'll probably be in here because I doubt everyone has the same messenger (MSN/AIM/Yahoo). Plus, it will be easier for Rick to update the first post.

Just how big a chunk of the draft are you guys going to try to take care of on Wednesday?
Isn't this just going to jack all your post counts way through the roof?
Well, not really. If it's organized enough, most everyone will probably only have 4-8 more posts. On a related note, I'm going to have fun on Wednesday night, though I might not be in until later that night, to be exposed to a large quantity (as opposed to quality) of fun to start.
XZ
August 7th, 2006, 10:20 PM
Well..hopefully. HOPEFULLY.
I say, we should do 10 rounds.
:)
Then Rick will meet his true mod task...hah.
smashbro14
August 7th, 2006, 10:37 PM
Just how big a chunk of the draft are you guys going to try to take care of on Wednesday?
As much as possible. From the looks of it, we'll have at least 4 hours to do this. Now of course we won't be doing this for that entire time. I'll set a specific time frame once more people respond. I don't expect everyone here to be online for 4 hours on a summer night. The only risk here is that everyone has to either show up or send their lists to me for this to work. If one person doesn't notice this, we'll have to reschedule or something. We could get over 10 rounds done if nothing goes wrong. I'll be posting on behalf of James and anyone else who cannot make it.
On a related note, I'm going to have fun on Wednesday night, though I might not be in until later that night, to be exposed to a large quantity (as opposed to quality) of fun to start.
Yeah well, that's what you get for being this forum's mod. :D
And just something else I was thinking about before:
I created a schedule last week. We decided not to send it into Week 17 because many starters will not be playing, and because the schedule would work much better with 13 regular season games. Weeks 14-16 will be when the playoffs are held. Basically, I'm trying to say that we have an extra week. So if we have to, we can start this on Week 2. This will probably be the last resort, though.
Now, those of you who will not be available Wednsday night might be wondering how to organize your lists. There are 2 ways you can do this: The easy, slightly risky way, or the tedious, safe way.
The easy, slightly risky way: Make ONE list of your top players. Include at least 50 players, probably more. Remember, if your entire list is gone then you'll just be skipped. THE 24 HOUR TIME LIMIT WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT WEDNESDAY NIGHT... probably. Like I already said, this can be risky. It is very hard to explain, but basically, your list might make decisions that you wouldn't make based on the positions you already have taken... that probably made no sense.
The tedious, safe way: List your top players OF EACH POSITION in the order that you want them to be picked. So say you want a linebacker first, then a running back, then a tight end, then a quarterback. You'd list your top 10 linebackers, then your top 12-15 running backs, then your top 20 tight ends, etc. Something like that. The reason that you want to list more as you go along is because there will be additional picks between each of yours. I doubt that if you wanted a quarterback in the 8th round, that merely listing your top 10 would get you one.
So those who have said yes to Wednesday night or have sent their lists to me thus far:

That's not that bad. If we plan on starting before you get off work, you can just send a small list of players to me before you're able to get on. And I doubt we'll still be going at 8:30 PST (11:30 EST) because of the other guys.

:-\ The only thing that can keep me from being there on Wednesday is the possibility that I'll be out getting things for college. It's my only off day this week too so it'd really be the only feasible way, aside from Friday night. Dammit. I hate leaving lists. But I gotta get out and get stuff for college. Ha... it's times like this where I wish I had AIM for my phone.

August 9th, 2006, 10:59 AM
Alright, so we're waiting on lists from BD and Freakish, and for Sonic and Pontus to say if they're available...
And if you guys are in a rush or something, you could just make a list like Yue did and be confident that I'll pick the guy you'd want.
I think we'll just go ahead and do it if 10 or 11 of the people do their part, and I'll just pick for those who don't respond. I'll look at an ESPN ranking list or something, so it's ike autopick.
As of now, I'd say the draft would go from 7:30 - 9:30 EST. That works out for those guys who have work or something tonight. It might not happen if at least 2 of the aforementioned members don't say anything, but just be prepared for 7:30.
And here's the late recap of last round:
Big Da- d'oh! - The Troopers - Willie Parker
Freakish - Deja Entendu - Anquan Boldin
Gabby Jay - The Hard Hittaz - Kevin Jones
XZ - Wildboyz - Hines Ward
Dr. Doom - Doom - Corey Dillon
sUpEr SoNiC_80 - The Purple $corpions - Javon Walker
James89 - Sexy Mother F'ers - Deuce McAllister
Velocity - The Velociraptors - Trent Green

The Eye in the Sky! - The Laughing Mules - Plaxico Burress

Alright, now it's just down to Pontus and Sonic. That means we have 10 people. I don't know what the hell happened to Sonic, but Pontus was on vacation, and I'm fairly positive that he'll trust me to make his picks for him. I'll pick for Sonic too unless he shows up later today. They'll be based on ESPN rankings or something.
So 10 people have done their part. Looks like we're game for tonight. :^:
And Freakish, yeah I don't know why I said you needed to send a list... I was thinking about your situation when I created that time. My bad. And showing up a few minutes late isn't a problem.
Dr. Doom, eh, that wouldn't do much good. I might extend the time to 10:00 EST if possible, but there definitely won't be a 3 hour extension. Sorry.
Man, this thing is a lot more stressful than I thought it would be when I agreed to help. I'll be picking for 6 or 7 people... hopefully James can sneak onto the computer for a bit tonight.

So we got through, what, 4 or 5 rounds? Not bad. Couple things I want to point out.
We extended the time because Gabby came way late. The only person that left during that time was Gabby, I think.
Me, Eye, Velo, Freakish, Gabby, and XZ had a chat going throughout the few hours. Now, I wasn't really the one who made the decisions for those members who did not leave a specific list of players. We all discussed who Yue, Gabby (at the end), Pontus, and Sonic should pick.
I'm not doing this again unless James can help... I was sweating like mad. Once James gets ungrounded, we'll probably try this again.
Thanks to Velo for helping me near the end. He picked for all those people at the end because I had a poker game (which I got last in...).
