Alright, I spent about an hour figuring this out last night. I think I found a way to even out the lineups and shorten the draft.
So I was thinking: The defensive starters outnumber the offensive starters 11: 6, and with the reserves they outnumber them 17:11.
I think I found a way to shorten them to 11:11 with the reserves, like a normal team, except the starters will be 7:7.
Right now, the defense is:
6 DL, 4 start
5 LB, 3 start
6 DB, 4 start
We could change it to:
3 DL, 2 start
3 LB, 2 start
4 DB, 2 start.
I think starting 2 of each position is a good idea. The extra DB will even things out. You'll understand what I mean in a bit.
Now, you might be thinking that the defense has 10 players but the offense still has 11. For the RB's and WR's, it's like this right now:
3 RB, 2 start
4 WR, 2 start
I think we can take away the extra wide receiver. At first I was a little hesitant, but then I thought "Hey, that's why we have the 3 utility players!"
But wait, didn't I say the starter ratio will be 7:7? Right now it is 6:6. Well how's this: You start one utility player on each side of the ball. On defense it can be anybody, but on offense it can be anybody except the quarterback. The 3rd utility player will be a reserve.
So here is the roster:
2 QB, 1 starts
3 RB, 2 start
3 WR, 2 start
2 TE, 1 starts
3 DL, 2 start
3 LB, 2 start
4 DB, 2 start
1 K, 1 starts
3 utility, 2 start (one on each side)
This shortens the draft ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 24 ROUNDS! I think that will be perfect timing.
Smashbro is a genious. Rick, can you edit the new roster requirments into the first post please? And Asterisk, please hurry up and pick Manning.
Rick52
July 24th, 2006, 12:43 PM
I have updated the first post with all the roster quantity changes.
smashbro14
July 24th, 2006, 12:58 PM
Could you also edit the part saying that it's 31 rounds? It's now 24. Then we're all set and the draft can continue normally.
Scruffy
July 24th, 2006, 09:04 PM
Can we bump WRs to 3 instead of 2? I'm cool with the toning down of the D players.
James89
July 25th, 2006, 12:14 PM
That why you got utility players. They can start at whatever position you want them to.
EDIT- All right asterisk you have about 21 hours to make your pick. If you miss it, then you will be skiped and we will move on. You will then have to make that pick at any time.
A note to everyone: If you miss 2 picks at any time in the draft, you will be dropped and we will find a replacement.
Rick52
July 25th, 2006, 12:27 PM
I'll send a PM to everyone who hasn't made a pick yet, just in case they haven't seen this thread yet.
smashbro14
July 25th, 2006, 09:02 PM
Alright, a couple changes to the rules because of how frustrating this is.
First of all, we are shortening the pick time to 24 hours. This may seem a little unfair, but think about it. Nothing really happens if the time expires, and even if it does, you might get your pick in before the next person does. This comes into place either after asterisk's time expires or he makes his pick, whichever comes first. Now, this is how you can get replaced:
- After your time expires, 7 people pick before you make your already "late" pick.
- 120 hours (5 days) pass from when you were supposed to pick.
- Miss 6 picks.
Get it? Got it? Good.

Honestly, what is the point of joining something if you aren't going to actively look in the topic. That makes me mad because the same thing happens in each season of the GWPS.
Dr. Doom
July 25th, 2006, 11:08 PM
we should just do a live draft on yahoo.. way easier to keep track of who's pick it is... way easier to keep track of your stats too ;)
Velocity
July 25th, 2006, 11:15 PM
So I still have to wait for asterisk to make his pick.
Oh joy.
James89
July 26th, 2006, 09:10 AM
Here is a fast way to pass the time, go to sleep. When you wake up, it will be your turn.
All right Asterisk's time is up. Velocity is on the clock.

Honestly, what is the point of joining something if you aren't going to actively look in the topic. That makes me mad because the same thing happens in each season of the GWPS.
What makes me tha angriest is that James and I BOTH clearly asked that the participants were committed so that they don't screw up the whole draft.
Yahoo doesn't allow linebackers for whatever reason. They only have DB's, and DL's. Plus, if we set a draft time, it's almost inevitable that at least half the league won't be there for it. Plus, if we were to keep the draft order, we'd all have to join the league in that order, which could be extremely annoying. And then the stuff we have planned for the divisions, stats, and stuff wouldn't be able to happen on Yahoo. There are a lot of other reasons why doing it here is best, however annoying it may be.
Alright, from now on, let's keep most of the posts here to picks unless it's really necessary.
Velocity
July 26th, 2006, 07:10 PM
Okay, time for my pick... I was talking to smashbro about it the other day and it was between two players...
Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis Rams
James89
July 26th, 2006, 07:49 PM
Damn you. Crap. O well.
I thought about it, fliped a coin, then thought about it again. I select....
Rudi Johnson, RB, Cincinatti Bengals.
Freakish
July 27th, 2006, 10:49 AM
I'm going out of town tomorrow so I'm gonna be out all of Friday to about 6 PST on Sunday. Since I have 2 picks coming up, should I PM smash or someone my top 10 or whatever and he takes the first 2 left?
Rick52
July 27th, 2006, 12:03 PM
Yeah, PM me or smashbro or James some of your picks if you know you won't be around when your pick comes. That's how I handled it when I did the hockey draft last year.
I'll update the first post in a second...
Edit: updated, and sUpEr SoNiC_80 has less than 8 hours to make a pick
smashbro14
July 27th, 2006, 02:12 PM
Just confirming that you guys should PM me and/or James some of your list if you'll be missing.
And one more thing: The GW clock is about an hour behind, so he has until 9 eastern time, not 8. So that's about 5 1/2 hours from now.
James wants to make a "Draft Discussion Thread" after the first round. Is that okay, Rick?
James89
July 27th, 2006, 02:32 PM
James wants to make a "Draft Discussion Thread" after the first round. Is that okay, Rick?
Its mainly so this thread will not be flooded with unnecessary posts, and for everybody to share what they think of the draft etc.
Rick52
July 27th, 2006, 02:35 PM
How about you let discussion occur in this thread? It didn't hamper any of the previous draft threads, and will cause less confusion (you can't say that it won't).
Edit: I am really bad at getting posts in before others. Really bad.
sUpEr SoNiC_80
July 27th, 2006, 02:38 PM

smashbro said he would make this pick, but he aint on. Freakish selects Cadalic Williams, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
smashbro14
July 29th, 2006, 11:06 AM
Alright, asterisk is out, Pontus is in. He's the replacement. His draft spot replaces asterisk's and he may make his first round pick at any time.
Pontus
July 29th, 2006, 11:09 AM
And I'll take Peyton Manning. I'll think of a team name later.
BigDaddy
July 29th, 2006, 12:38 PM

... just noticed this... we only get one kicker? what happens on their bye week?
James89
July 30th, 2006, 11:55 PM
Well all the leagues I have been in only require one kicker. You can have another one as a utility player. They dont put up a whole lot of points anyway.
Dr. Doom
July 31st, 2006, 12:00 AM
well.. in a game with 4 field goals, it makes a big difference.. but I guess I could waste a utility player on one...
sUpEr SoNiC_80
July 31st, 2006, 02:34 PM
Randy Moss (WR) Oakland
James89
July 31st, 2006, 02:47 PM

Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati
Velocity
July 31st, 2006, 03:31 PM
I, however, will not spring for a wide receiver just yet.
I pick... Tatum Bell (RB) Broncos
Pontus
July 31st, 2006, 03:34 PM
I'll take a risk and go for another QB. Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals
James89
July 31st, 2006, 03:41 PM
Even though Palmer falling to me in round 3 was a long shot, I didnt expect him to be taken by the same guy who has Peyton Manning. You must be looking to trade one of the two, right?
Pontus
July 31st, 2006, 03:44 PM
It is a very high possibility. Also, my next pick is not far away so there is less of a chance that who I intend to pick will be gone than picking who I intented to pick and then Palmer still being there in round three. If you understood any of that, you will see my logic.
James89
July 31st, 2006, 03:46 PM
I get what you said. Well you have great trade bait.
smashbro14
July 31st, 2006, 04:23 PM
well.. in a game with 4 field goals, it makes a big difference.. but I guess I could waste a utility player on one...
Or you could risk dropping someone when their bye week comes around. I might get one as a utility player, though. It depends on who's available.
Lol Velocity. Steven Jackson and Tatum Bell. :P
Damn. I was really hoping I could get Chad...
Well anyway, Yue is up.

July 31st, 2006, 04:26 PM
Despite an iffy line and the complete absence of a QB and a very difficult schedule, Willis McGahee is tooooooooooooooooooo good to pass up here.
I choose Willis McGahee (RB) Buffalo
smashbro14
July 31st, 2006, 04:32 PM
I'll pick Marvin Harrison.
Hmm, I wonder if Tom will pick a certain New England quarterback here... ;)

Who, Doug Flutie? Tom you rascal.
James89
July 31st, 2006, 05:04 PM

The Eye in the Sky!
July 31st, 2006, 08:56 PM
As for my second round pick, I will go out on a limb and make a surprise pick.
Tom Brady (QB)
As for my third round pick, I did a four way coin flip with the winner:
Antonio Gates (TE)
smashbro14
July 31st, 2006, 09:00 PM
My plan wins.
I pick Matt Hasselback, QB, Seattle.
4,500 yards anyone? Now that he has his top 2 receivers back...
Yue is up again.

Also, once smash gets back ill talk to him about lowering the draft time sooner than we planned. That should also speed things up.
