I hear that you're supposed to practice using a metronome but I'm a little confused what you're supposed to do with it to help you practice. Could someone clear this up for me?

well with metronome, u get a better sense of rhythm of beat, like tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick

its good for soloing and rhythm, cause u can time it better, and it sounds all together beter

It pretty much just keeps you in time so you don't end up slowing down at some parts and then playing faster at other.

Similar to the above posts, it sets the time signature so you know how fast to play in.

I find them bothersome. I never use them. I play as spastic as I damn well please.

So its really just useful when you're trying to learn a song then?

Basically when you're only learning other people's songs, not when you come up with one. Plus, I play heavy metal, so they're kinda useless with all the tempo changes.

It's particularly useful if you're trying to learn something for contest. Judges often have a metronome sitting there on mute to see if you're on tempo. And if not. Check and circles and bad comments.
