View Full Version : Help Describe this Forum

In a short time, all of the forums on here will be advertised to the general public, and we are being asked to come up with good descriptions which would help generate more activity in the forums.

I'm asking you to help P!ATD, Zelda, and myself come up with a good way to describe what happens in this forum, or what can happen.

I'd like to get some of the regulars' opinions on the matter to see what we can come up with, and don't forget about the recently added sub-forums, they'll be advertised as well.

Thanks,
-Alu

You should also put in stuff about how popular it used to be, to hopefully get some more activity in here.

It really was the flagship forum of GW. Put that :D

I remember when it was really active, but that was years ago, before there were so many other forums, and before I left too. I said the same in pool of knowledge, just get some of the obscurely named threads and put them in the advert, but dont link to them. People should hopefully want to satisfy their curiosity without killing any cats, come along to see what threads those are and what they're about, then get lost in the other threads on the board which catch their eye. It might work?

Extremely good point.

As with you, user, it'll be good to talk about the way this forum used to be as opposed to the way it is now.

So, long time members, talk about some of the more fun things you remember happening in here, it might help out the cause a bit, and possibly get it close to its flagship status again.

I have a suggestion to raise the activity level here at GW. I think we should put the flaming topic icons back up agian like old time. You know, the flaming folder icon that changes when you have a decent number of replies. I think by putting them up, members will start posting topics agian and start good discussion. Just a suggestion. Hope you'll think about it.

or better yet why don't we combine the new and old version/look of GW forums.

I still like "Alu mods here".

I think Redeye has a good point. Of course, in those days we were a small UBB service and a thread was considered a ragining sucsess if it got 15 replies. WOOT! WOOT!

Maybe imply that it's haunted by the oldest legends of GameWinners. lol. (Credit to whoever said that current events was the place where mods came to die ;))

well, it is current events and discussions right? so something along the lines of "feel free to discuss what's going on today and your attitude and stuff towards it" . That is more of the general theme..right?
(im not a regular really..but meh.)

well, we're trying to get more people around here, instead of just the regulars, so it can grow to having more general discussion here.

So far I'm working with the Former Flagship forum of GW trying to regain that status, and having it be a place where you can go to talk about any random topic you want to really, so long as it is appropriate.

Bah, as soon as "more" regulars turn up, you'll go out of your way to kill it again. ?.

One of the problems, Alu, is the fact that Gamewinners keeps adding forums. Not everything needs a forum. Stuff that would normally be here is split up into other places. That's not the only reason the forum's not very popular, but it's one of them

This forum will never be a flagship again without killing off other forums. Period.

Why?

In "Global Interaction" you've got forums like International, School, and C&P. The former two could always be discussed in here, in specific threads or stuff as they pop up...and the latter, I mean, I've always wondered why that forum was really necessary, ever since it was created. You give people a forum specifically to celebrate current events even if they aren't hugely significant. Alot of that traffic could easily come here, and hey, they might even stay for other current events, you never know.

Same with the Intl. and School forums. Those sorts of things fall under the 'current event' category. Something education related comes up, it'd be a current event. People could talk about it there, and probably get alot more responses than the forum regulars that go in there. If International members wanted to talk about something current, or maybe have their own chat thread...that would certainly be current, wouldn't it?

C&C / C&C Wars / Advertising, those really probably need their own forums as they are more specific conversation.

Look at the "Debate and Discussion" section. There are several specific forums for things, yet hardly any traffic in any of them. Would it be awful to perhaps merge them all into one huge conglomerate of knowledge and discussion? Make the Pool, Religion, Politics/Law, History, Science all one forum, one big bastion of all things intellectual, and see what happens. Maybe there will be crossover talk. Maybe you'd get more traffic in general as people from all those forums would start posting about similar subjects that they had ignored before? I don't know, but it's a thought.

Would those really do anything to help CE? Maybe, maybe not. But you guys have generally stretched yourselves thin, giving specific forums to niche areas that probably didn't need them. No offense to the regulars of those forums, but none of those forums are really that big or that active. A few pages worth in months' time does not an active forum make...

Wonder if it had anything to do with the abundance of members wanting a moderator title or current moderators wanting their own forms. I remember when I was moderating there was a small time period in which moderators were requesting every forum from How to Make Grilled Cheese to Building Card Castles for Begginers. I do agree a lot of the existing forums could be merged. Too many sub-sub-sub-categories.

I know, I'm a bit new here, I started here maybe 2 days ago, but I know there is an problem here. Well, this forum is really good and interesting, but it needs more activity. It was an really good idea with RPG, but there are so many threads, with no new post from other people. I think there must be something to do for more activity and make more members write, but what? We/You need an good idea like RPG, Groups and what we have, but now we/you need an idea, what make people write more and is making more activity. We have so many members, but only a few of them really write or even try omething.

More activity= more fun
more fun= more new members
more new members= more new threads= more great ideas, more interesting storys/facts, and even more.

That's one thing I really think is now importent for this forum. But would anybody think on it or do something?

That's really one point, what is importent now.

This spot was such a jumbled mess of RRG, good idea, and activity, that I choose the "tl:dr" option.

more new members= more SPAM
Fixed.

More activity= more fun
more fun= more new members
This forum is plenty fun... you have to look beyond your RPG forum. Movies, TV's, jokes, other video games, pet, wrastling, Forum Games, Music, Religion, School, Girls, Martial Arts, Poker, Sports, Electronics help topics, Anime, Book, Comics, Cars, Console Combat discussions, a Video Game Bashing Forum, and plenty of random banter in the CV, Thunderdome, and all around every forum.
My friend, I have more fun on here than I do playing games online.

So are you trying to get this to be not only a place to post news and stuff, but sort of like a PIMI/CV?

I'll deffinately stick around and start frequenting here if it becomes more of a general discussion forum where you can talk about stuff apart from the news. Hell I'll subscribe to the forum now anyway.

As for ideas for the description, have it say something about how you can talk about anything (if that's what you're going for).

Technically, you can talk about almost anything. It was part of the PIMI becoming CV/FYAD and CE becoming this/GBS of SA.
