Something going on around the forums we haven't made an announcement about? Heard about something that has happened or is going to happen? Feel free to post it here and we'll try to answer any questions or rumors.

ive heard about forum advertisments, so what is gonna go down with that?
Crazy Jamie
May 9th, 2006, 08:43 AM
Basically Forum Advertisements were going to be introduced to advertise specific forums on Gamewinners within the site itself. Make people more aware of the forums on the site that they might not know existed before, that kind of thing. The idea was to boost activity.
Unfortunately the process for putting this into motion has slowed down somewhat. A few advertisements have been made, but the idea is yet to actually be implemented. I'm sure it will be soon though.

Yeah, I was actually just about to start putting some of them up today. I woke up this morning remembering I hadn't done it yet - with the few we've actually gotten. Should see the first one shortly. :) And hopefully the process will speed up some when I get more submissions.

Whatever happened to that GW Instant Messaging thing?
TheDukeOfBoston
May 9th, 2006, 08:09 PM
I thought GWIM idea was brutally raped, murdered, stuffed in a bowling ball bag, tied to an anchor and thrown a few miles off the coast. Either that, or it was just trashed, I beleive.

Whatever happened to that GW Instant Messaging thing?
Honestly, I don't know completely. Former admin Majboothroyd was the one facilitating that effort, but I seem to remember that most people just didn't have the time to dedicate to building a messaging system specifically for GW.

Yeah there was actually a great deal of support for it. Like so many other ideas, though, it just seemed to fizzle out.

Not only did it fizzle out the admins had to stop people from talking about it. They dispised teh idea after they got the full view of it.

WANT TO KEEP UP TO DATE WITH ALL OF THE LATEST BANNINGS, GOSSIP, AND GOINGS ON AROUND GAMEWINNERS? WELL, NOW WE'VE MADE A FORUM SO YOU CAN DO JUST THAT.That's the forum description I lifted from a sig, but I haven't seen any current bannings posted lately.
I find it highly improbable that no one has been banned in over a week.
Has the miraculous indeed occurred, or are you guys simply slacking? :link:
(By that, I don't mean slacking by not banning people, but slacking by not listing the bans here.)

I don't think a lot of warnings have been given out recently...have they? or bans.
Btw, if you get forum blocked, after how many more warnings do you get Banned? (not that im refering to me..im clean:) well..except a few sig offenses...but i was new.)

Yeah, the people that banned the few we've had just didn't post it. I suppose I could fix that...

Contrary to popular belief there is no set number of warnings and whatnot before someone gets banned. Everything is usually on a case-by-case basis. Like if the person is new and they got a few spam warnings, I usually try to post count reset or temp ban them first.

Actually, me and maj both tried to get the idea going,(my idea, maj had more power than me so he helped me out) so many people supported it, but no one would help design it, with out anyway of getting it made we both said screw it and left it.

2. If so how will it change it.

I have a rumor form about a week ago that Vbulliten was coming out with a new version. Which GW would be adapting. Upgrades cost money, depending on the type of license Al has. We didn't get 3.5 for a WHILE after it came out. This would be no different.

As long as he keeps the look the same or similar it doesn't matter. A lot of other forums have annoying skins that make them hard/annoying to read, such as silver text on black backgrounds. GW is currently one of the (if not THE) most user-friendly forums I've come across.

November 29th, 2006, 10:51 AM
The current version (Not at GW, but the newest vbulletin version) is 3.6.4.
GW runs 3.5. The .6 means it added some features, and the .4 means there were 4 bug fixes released. So it's not quite perfect yet.
Apollo
November 29th, 2006, 01:33 PM
No release is ever 100% bug-free.
Anything after the Release Candidates is considered fully useable for production websites (hence why every .0 version is typically called or referred to as a "Gold" version). 3.6.4 is far more secure than the current version on these forums (3.5.0), and it wouldn't hurt Al to upgrade at some point in the near future.
That said, there is currently no newer version of vBulletin, outside of any bugfix releases that might turn up. The rumors of vBulletin 4.0 are simply rumors just now (they are working on it, supposedly, but it's still a long way off), and I haven't seen anything that shows a 3.7/8 release anytime soon...granted, I could easily have overlooked it.

There is a thread in the forum only games forum. He has to survey everyone first. Then the people guess answers to the survey and get points based on how many people answered that same answer. The actual game will take place in a thread.

The date means nothing. It may take the administrators that long to fix things, so it's up for a reasonable amount of time so people know that they are doing their best to fix it. Besides, read the last statement from her.
Things will be restored to normal as soon as possible.

The logo doesn't flip on some peoples' browsers because they're running from a cached image. Your browsers don't reload the image every time you load a page on the forums, so some browsers haven't realised the change yet. Refreshing should do the trick, or clearing your browser cache.

Alright, fine, it's gray. In contrast to the pastel pink/salmon it looks light blue-ish. I'm sure it's the same gray that's always there (which, by the, has always struck me as having a light blue tint - maybe it's the LCD monitors I use). The regular tan/beige and gray definitely looks best though.

The way that the colors sit together, it does hint at a blue-ish tint... but then again, that is why certain colors cause visual distortion of colors. The hue is standard gray but any variation around it can cause another color to bleed into the gray.

The silly color scheme was essential to the 'Mod Forum's' success. It was lame, and it paled in comparison to Maj's edit of 2 years ago. But I don't think many people would have beleived it had we actually come out with the forum yesterday when something was expected.

I heard this topics 4 months oldI heard that mini modding can get you a warning for SPAM. Especially when you criticise someone for bumping a sticky thread (which isn't against the rules, by the way). And I know I am right about that, so consider this a caution and stop it. Most forums are moderated well anyway, and this particular forum is moderated by most of the upper staff, so there is no earthly reason why should ever be mini modding in here, if indeed at all throughout the site.
To clarify, this is not a place for making up random humorous rumours, nor is it a SPAM thread. Take heed.
