GWPS Heads-Up Tournament
ROUND 1

Welcome to the Heads-Up Tournament! You lucky 24 players get to partake in an approxamitely 2 week tournament testing all of your skills in heads-up matches. You have been seeded and placed into the brackets so you must confer with your opponent on game times. You do not need me around to play. Try to play at convenient times to keep things fair. Now for some rules and guidelines:

This is a best of three. So the first person to win 2 games moves on while the other is eliminated from the tournament.
When the match is over, I would like both players to post to confirm results so we don't have one person trying to cheat. Please post how many games it took, who won which games, etc.
Blinds are to be $50 NL at all times. You will also be sitting in with 1000 each game. No more, no less.
You must meet deadlines that I give. If you are having issues contacting your opponent, let me know. I will try to contact them.

Now. The tournament is open. You may contact your opponents (listed in the Bracket thread) and schedule when you would like to play. The deadline to play all of the games in the first round is April 14th. Please have your games finished by then. If the games finish earlier, we move onto the second round immediately.

We will be tallying points on performance for a "wild card" seat into the Final Four players remaining. So try to eliminate your opponent in 2 games rather than 3 to give yourself a shot at getting that final seat!

USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS/CONFER WITH YOUR OPPONENTS AND POST RESULTS. DO NOT SPAM IT UP OR I WILL START DELETING POSTS AND WARNING PEOPLE.

Bri and I and had a GREAT game. He took the first, I took the second, and he took the third when we both turned straights.

Good game man, lets do it again sometime.

I beat Phoenix 2-1. He rivered me no less then three times, including the game he beat me, where we were both all-in first hand after I hit a set, he rivered the straight for the one-hand win.

That's alright, he played pretty decently.

I was defeated two games to one by shortkut. I won the first game, and he won the next two. I played too carelessly in the last two games. Oh well, it was fun. Good job, kutford!

I just beat Sirthe 2 to 0.

The second game was pretty good. He took an early advantage with a full house, I fought back slowly until I had the advantage. He pushed on a bluff. I moved all in over the top with KJ, he called and I hit a straight for the win.

Good game man.

(I won't tell anyone that the total time for the two games was about 14 minutes. ;))

Joe beat me, so for me it was WLL

Crazy first game, lots of come backs, I was down to 400 or so, came back, got him down, he came back, and after lots of crazy straights and stuff I finally won

Second game I had him down to about 600 but started getting cocky with bluffs, he caught me, came back and beat me.

Third game I was crippled early, drained me with double blinds which I couldn't afford, then getting me on top two pair v his three of a kind

That first game was insane, and I walked into glory with that last set of 10s, I was gunna raise that amount anyways.

Okay. I beat Chapta 2-1. The first two games took a really long time, and then the final game went by like nothing.

Shak beat me in a heated heads-up confrontation.

We spent most of the first game trying to read each other and figure out our styles. He ended up beating me in the first game.

The second game was considerably shorter than the first, with a lucky turn card allowing me to beat Shak.

The final game was pretty rocky, and short like the second. I managed to get into a dominating position with a 2:1 chip advantage, but he came back when I had mid-pair and he had top-pair. He ended up taking the 2:1 advantage, and on the next hand, I had A2 and had no choice but to call whatever he bet. He had A10.

Congrats, Shak.

Me and Dean just finished up. I won the first, Dean got the second, and I squeezed my victory WLW. But wait, you already knew that, which is why I've edited this. Great game Dean, you deserve a :^:.

Me and Coleman next? I'm pretty glad that I get to face the mighty Dave. Two players. Thousand chips each. Only one player leaves the room with clean underwear.

Me and TSP played, I won, WWBlank.

First game, he crippled me down to 250, but I stole blinds, and then came back with a full house to be ahead by 200. Then, I won it with A8.

Second game, I stole the blidns twice, had AA, he folded, then got A7, called his bluff preflop. Flop: A 7 9. He beats 200, i wait, pretending to be unsure, and call. Turn, unimportant, he bets, i wait and call. He has 400 left at the river, bets 200 and I raise him all in. I win.

GG.

I am a disgrace. I played like a twat. A total and utter twat. I can't believe actually how much of a twat I made myself look. I'm just glad no-one else was there to see the ****ing debacle.

I don’t even know what to say right now. The first game, he was catching everything. Every time I raised, he would re-raise me and show a better hand. Finally, I went all in with Ace Queen suited and caught an ace on the flop. I was thinking, yay. He shows 2,3 and had hit two pair on the flop. I can’t believe he called 500+ with 2/3 off suit… and then beat AQ with it. The second game had two key hands, the first one I won most of my money on, and the one that won me the game was rivering a full house. The third game, I started down low again but doubled up twice with pocket nines and Ace King suited. Eventually, he was down to about 100, but he doubled up twice. I won after turning a straight and letting him bet into me. Good games, you had me worried.

In conclusion, as Cole informed me, I was the only number one seed not to sweep and was almost the only number one seed to lose. Go me.

cluck beat me in two, he seemed to hit everything he had, and I seemed to hit nothing...the only thing I won really was the button before the games started

Split this down to just the matches. Into two threads.

One in the bin: :^: (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482980)

And one in the forum with the raging discussion on blinds: :^: (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482978)

Yeah, that's arguably the worst games I've ever played. I went all in with a 10 9 the second game. First game wasn't great, but understandable. It was basically a coin flip

Velocity beat me 2-1. Not to take anything away from him, because he played well, I will go down the hands list I got in the last two games.

2-4 off
3-7 off
2-6 suited
A-J off (he folded preflop)
3-8 off
5-7 off
3-6 suited
2-7 off
5-9 off
3-10 suited
K-2 suited (he folded preflop)
2-5 suited
2-8 off
5-6 off
4-8 suited
7-8 off
3-9 suited
4-10 off
QJ suited (He raised as I missed the flop)
2-3 suited
2-5 off
7-7 off (I won $150)
3-8 off
6-9 off
2-J off

I'm not trying to blame something else but seriously. I did not pair most of these hands, and when I did, they were bottom pairs. I have had such terrible luck that I am taking a break from online poker all together. No more. I'm sick and tired of losing when I know I am a great player.

I'll be back for GWPS IV, but I don't even know if I care right now.

Velocity, great game. You had it in control the entire time. I underestimated you. You can play heads-up quite well.

Like he said... I won in three so for me it's LWW. I had a feeling that most of his hands were crap because I kept getting Q-J, K-A, 10-J... and sometimes cards like 10-2, but they had a lot of higher cards in them. He folded a lot... so that gave me one hint. But still, the first game was more fun to watch to an outsider.

Had the cards been more even, I may have lost that game. I still don't think myself that good of a player yet.

I wouldn't worry about it- the way the blinds are structured the element of luck involved in these heads up games is massive. You should have a far better chance in the next GWPS. I would imagine anyone who makes the final won't do so by accident.

So wait, how do we determine the prognostication brackets now that Dan was replaced and JDJ won?
