Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. GameWinners Poker Series III is coming to a close.
GWPS2 proved that the series could be done nice, respectfully, with a great atmosphere, and a point system that rewards, and doesn't punish. GWPS III came back to prove that lightning can strike twice. In early February it started. And one month later, it draws to the finale. The final table. An elite six that spent one entire month fighting for top bill. And for six people, a chance at GameWinners Poker glory.
This season changed things. It showed that The Eye in the Skys! GWPS2 was a fluke. He powered through the series, just missing out a mark at the final table seat. A FLOCK of newcomers proved that the new blood will always be there to challenge we the GWPS veterans.
The theme of GWPS III seemed to be luck. Be it good, or be it bad, luck shown through all season long. Whether it be my personal tragedy of losing on three seperate occasions with pocket Aces, or Dan's...I guess one might call it "gutsty" calls only to win out in the end. Is ChecknRaise to blame? Personally I doubt it. But maybe. But luck was a factor this season.
But all the same. The final table is presented, with two fresh faces, and four returning stars from GWPS2, and two stars that have been at every GWPS final table to date. Ladies and gentlemen. Your final six.
Dan. Some call him lucky. Others call him ballsy. He calls himself great. (:P) But one things for sure, he dominated the series like no one has before him. In GWPS 2, he was more or less just a face in the crowd. But this time he was synonymous with the name GWPS. He dominated the point standings like none have before, clinching a final table seat long before anyone else, and with enough points to give him a stack that nearly rivals the rest of the table COMBINED. Sitting in with a MONSTER 6000 in chips, Dan...will be your big stack.
Dean. Rounding out the two biggest stacks is another GWPS Final Table freshman. Dean...is a hard player to talk about. 30% luck, 30% skill, and 40% straight up intuition. I've said Dean has a mind for the game, and he proved it during GWPS III. He marched through the series, and as of the last table, managed to clinch himself a second stack seat. Dean was trained by the best (I should know. ;)) and he has no trouble showing where he learned to play the game. Look out for dangerous calls in "the bottom of the 9th" as it were, he's not afraid to make them. Dean will be there, with a fair 4000 in chips.
TranViet. But as for the new guys, that's over. TranViet. A veteran of the GWPS, and winner of GWPS2, TranViet is a top tier player of a whole nother caliber. Tran lives for Poker as much as anyone else, and knows the game about that well. With a loose aggressive style that it takes damn near a pro to master, Tran has the ability to eliminate you before you even know what he had. Last season he started the final table tied for big stack. This time he starts in the middle. Will he be able to make lightning strike again? Going for back to back wins? Or will a middle stack be his undoing. He'll be there with 3500 chips. And he'll be ready to go.
Believe The Sickness. The first of two of the people that have been to every final table to date, BTS is always ready to play. The loose aggressive style is hard to master, and it's how TranViet has been succesful. But BTS has mastered a tight aggressive style that has worked for him since he debuted in the GWPS. He battles strong at every table, and rarely comes up short. Last season he stared down the face of back to back GWPS final table victories and barely came up short. He's looking to avenge his loss in GWPS2 by taking from TranViet what he feels is rightfully his. The GWPS trophy. BTS sits in with 3000 in chips.
JoetheShow. The self proclaimed "Kid Poker" comes back for more. Last season he barely made it to the final table clinching a 10 Point Showdown victory for the final seat. This time luck (and possibly fate) stepped in, when the only two people left that could have knocked him down were unable to show up to the final game, and Joe snatched the final seat. Possibly compared to the others, he's a novice in the game. But that won't stop him from being a threat. At the last final table he sadly went out last. I know he'll be looking to avenge that this time. And I don't doubt he can. He starts as your shortstack with 2000 in chips.
Coleman. Now I'm not one to toot my own horn (quiet) but...well, I won't. This season I feel once again, I was rocky. Going up and down and not playing as consistantly as I should be. However, having never finished below sixth, I managed to stay consistant enough to secure myself the Wildcard seat. I've been to every final table so far, and coming up short again is not something I'd like to repeat. At the season two final table, I got crippled early on, and managed to hang on for nearly an hour before finally falling victim to (if I recall) TranViets mighty hand. With a Wildcard spot, I start tied with Joe for shortstack. But I plan to make an impact this time. I won't fall short again. Third times a charm? We're gonna find out.
- Information -
- If you have a problem with this time (and are at the final table) please post below and we'll TRY to change it. But remember, we have to look at the good of the many as opposed to the good of the one. So if five people have this time as perfect and one doesn't, I'm sorry, but we'd have to stick with it. We'll try to make as many accomodations as we can.
- Our very own The Eye in the Sky! (Philip J. Fry) will be hosting our Live Play by Play coverage of the Final Table. I know personally he's going all out, with player profiles, and in depth backgrounds to make the PBP sparkle. Be sure to check it out!
- And once again, Zell 17 will be conducting post elimination interviews. Last time everyone was a good sport, and even though they were eliminated still headed to Brian-station to conduct an interview. Again, this is not manditory if you are eliminated, but we would appreciate it. It's for the show. :)

This final table is about one thing. The rookies with the big stack, taking on four shortstacked final table veterans. Will the rookies prove that they aren't just lucky and clinch a final table trophy? Or will the veterans put up their stand. Tell the world that no one comes into OUR house and pushes us around.
There's only one way to find out. Be there. The GWPS III final table. Live this Thursday!
