The first Darth Vader novel ever… ROCKED!

The overall story was sorta cool… that being the Jedi who escaped the fate of Order 66 and had to face Darth Vader, but aaaalllllllll the little side stories were mondo cool.

I particularly enjoy the dynamic between Darth Vader and Bail Organa… the duel of wills between the unknowing father of Leia, and her adopted father. So cool.

And the inside look at the workings of the Sith was freaking amazing… Two there should be; no more no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it.
That’s just so cool. I love that Vader is just always pissed at Palpatine and he hates him from the start and the ultimate drop down the core-engine-whatever has been such a long-time coming.

I liked just about every element in this book, the one thing that I didn’t like was that it tried to do too much. I hope that there will be many books during this time period and this one seemed to do a lot… it imprisoned the Wookies, it had Ben learning of Darth Vader, it had Tarkin working through some of his Death Star plans… it just seemed like an awful lot to try and accomplish in one short book. But in spite of the fact that it was largely crammed in there it was still pretty cool when they did it. Nice to have that little aside of Obi-wan, despite the fact that he learned about Vader being alive too soon in the era.

I liked Shryne… he was a cool character, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all those other Jedi, especially Starstone… it makes me wonder if she is going to be an apprentice chosen by Vader one day… maybe even be the Dark Jedi that re-emerges in Legacy Era! (Yeah, I know… unlikely… but y’never know  )

I also thought it cool and funny that the suit was a piece of crap... it was neat the way they brought in Anakin's skill with machines and having him work on his suit to make it stronger and faster and better balanced and all that.

Totally worth the buy… I look forward to many more like it :)

I loved this book. FREAKING LOVED IT! The way they showed how Anakin felt being in the suit, and the Jedi, I wanted Shryne to live, great character. So was Starstone, I want to see more of her. I liked Climber too, he was the coolest of all clones, actually had a brain, that he used. Felt bad for Kashyyk especially Chewie and Tarrful :(.

Chewie didn't get caught though, did he? I thought he was gonna keep on fighting the system until the fateful day a bit later :)

Dude this book rocked. The descriptions are easy to follow, the characters were memerable, and Palpatine was as deliciously slick as always. Man, I wanna see more of these. I loved how Shryne was a Jedi master who couldn't use the force. That made me laugh.

The thing with Starstone is that she's young and emotional... now it's a little known fact that they're bringing the dark jedi Lady Lumiya back from her short-lived Marvel Comics stint in the upcoming Legacy of the Jedi era in the EU...

My theory (wild as it may seem) is that Starstone IS Lumiya. Eh? You like that? I know you do. It would be the perfect thing for her.

She does seem the type to turn, just kill her friends in front of her. Or show her a tape of Shryne being murdered. Or Vader could tell her he was Anakin.

I really enjoyed this book, Shryne was cool. Luceno did a great job developing his quirks, especially with that whole can't-touch-the-Force thing. Vader throwing his lightsaber over the crowd on Alderaan to kill Fang Zar was freaking amazing. And that lightsaber duel on Kashyyyk was a lot of fun.

One whole in the story (which didn't really bother me much) was that at the beginning, Vader could barely move in his suit to fight in the first duel, then at the end he's moving like there was no suit at all. Maybe I just read it too fast, but I didn't really catch a crossover there where he suddenly broke loose and had all his old skills back.

I really like how Sidious refuses to actually train him, and how much Vader hates him for it. Vader is only now realizing that Sidious is trying to keep him down and use him as a baseball bat, doing all his dirty work, instead of actually teaching him the ways of the Sith.

Very cool book. Is there going to be a second, or was this it?

He was in the Emperial Reconstructive Surgery room (or whatever) and talking to Palpatine about how much his suit sucks... he was tweaking his suit then... making it work better for him.

HAHAHA. I couldn't put it down. I read the thing cover to cover in four days. I had nothing else to do over christmas break. If there was anything wrong with it, it is that it is too short!

That's true... he even padded it with quite a bit of fluff and it barely broke 300 :(

I mean, my favorite SW book of all time is Vision of the Future, and my paperback is over 600 pages! I understand that there was not a ton of storyline to go on, but it would have made for a much more satisfying read had it gone on longer. BTW I got labyrinth of evil for christmas too. I got the prequel and sequel on the same day !:woohoo:

Awsome book. It is my favorite (next to the MedStar). I loved how it dived into the mind of Vader, and his personal thoughts oneverything from his suit to noy having R2. Also great when they were trying to not let Vader see the two droids, while keeping the secret from C3P0. Priceless.

I really think Luceno should write another Vader novel, and include Starstone, perhaps as a Jedi hunter?

Singin Hobo

Really? As far as the novelizations go I think it's good for writers to work with characters of their own creation... they tend to do better that way--it's the main reason I'm looking forward to Coruscant Nights.

If he goes back to creating more and more new characters we have to go through the whole introduction phase again and again... if we know all the characters they can get more interesting from book to book.

Anybody else get the Ultimate Vader Guide? Or the last issue of Insider? Karen Traviss (Republic Commando books) has written two pretty awesome Vader short fictions.

Wait, thats kind of confusing me, I said I wanted him to include Starstone

Crap, my finger slipped and hit the button, sorry. I meant to add that you made it sound like I didn't want Starstone, all new characters.
