Still working away at my Clone Wars novels :D

I just finished Jedi Trial today and I thought it was another great Clone Wars story... I'm not sure if it was particularly big enough to warrant being the trial that made Anakin a Jedi Knight... but it was cool. Personally, with the small mentions of Asajj Ventress here and there... and even the fact of her promising to show up towards the end... I was expecting it to be the final undoing of her and I was hoping that destroying her would be the thing that earned Anakin his long-awaited title.

And along those lines not only wasn't it something huge but in the long run it seemed like something small... he did save a planet, for all intents and purposes, but it wasn't really an inhabited planet... it was a strategic planet. So, it wasn't really a big fat deal... just another move that the Republic won for the time being, not really anything I cared about.

And what gives with the authors who are afraid to let Anakin really get sucked in a new way... sure he had his little bout of rage after that matronly lady died, but it was so closely tied to the exact same thing that happened to him with his mother that it wasn't like I was reading about a new event. It was just sort of a rerun-rage.

I also thought it kinda corny that the Jedi Master he was teamed up with was also secretly married and had a kid.

What WAS cool was the military style and language of the book... they did a great job of illustrating the battles and the surroundings and the moves and all that. I thought they did a great job of really bringing it all together like they did and laying out the map for us so we could see it. Good deal.

Yeah, I was thinkin about getting it but then I heard all these bad reviews about it. I heard The Cestus Deception wasn't to great either. Are either of them worth getting?

Well, I like these Clone Wars novels a lot better than a lot of others... but Jedi Trial has probably been the least of these.

I only heard Cestus Deception on audio cassette and it was abridged, but it does follow Obi-wan AND Kit Fisto, so at least it's another Jedi. I plan on reading it again in book form soon... but from what I remember it wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either.

I'm currently reading I, Jedi and I now realize that Halcyon is Corran Horn's grandpappy... that makes this part of the story make a bit more sense, although I don't think it's necessary that Halcyon should have just haphazzardly revealed his secret marriage to Anakin for no real reason.
Not really subtle enough, if you ask me.

If you notice, the writers for Trial were not the standard wrtiters, like ol' Timmy Zahn and his crew. They were actual soldiers and tacticians.

Spoiler Alert!

Also, i do agree that Anakin shoulda blown his top:bashhead: :omg:
I woulda loved it if He killed tonith and then got into an arguement with Qui-Gons ghost:argue:
To wrap it up, Zozridor Slake is the man:cool:

There are plenty of great writers of Star Wars books that aren't Timothy Zahn... this guy just isn't one of them.

It may have been a good story about one of the lesser-known Jedi, but not about Anakin. Anakin is such an important character that they should have given his story to somebody who wouldn't be afraid to delve deep into his psyche and really find out what makes him tick.

Matt Stover did such an awesome job with him in the ROTS novel, and I have no doubts that Luceno will deliver in 2 weeks with Dark Lord... but this guy either wasn't interested in Anakin or two many restrictions were put on him by Lucasbooks... either way the end result wasn't at all interesting.
