View Full Version : Cheats, too easy?

I know that cheats are fun in some games, but sometimes, don't they just take the fun out of stuff? Like when I got the Doom Collection, I played in fun for a while then I couldn't resist the temptation, but to try out some cheats, then before I knew it, everything was too easy, soon I was bored of the games because of cheats, and other games can have the fun sucked out of them also, do you think some cheats take the fun out of the game?

It really depends on
1. The type of game it is
2. How hard the game normally is
3. How well you play games
4. What codes you use
Sometimes, yes... it can take the fun out of it.... but if you're struggling alot in the game and when you use the codes, they help you... You'll be alot happier and enjoy the game more.
Some codes might add extra fun, like cars you wouldn't normally get in a racing game that are superfast or that can do some weird stuff. In FF8, you can use your gameshark to get into a "Debug Room". That allowed you to play whatever song you want and battle any kind of monster. I fought a monster that wasn't normally in the game. I was weird looking (some kind of Japanese mascot). But it froze up the game after that, lol.
Good question

yeah, i have to agree there are some cheats fun using, then other funsuckers, some for fps should be used until the game is beaten, cheats take fun out of most fps as Doom

True, like when using God mode and infinite ammo from the beginning.
It's kinda smart of EA that in James Bond:Everything or Nothing when someone use cheats.... you can't get any medals when playing the missions... after all... you didn't earn it for your "hard" work...

I think everyone should wait until the have beaten the game before using cheats, I have freinds who use cheats to get through the game faster then me, who doesn't use cheats, then they brag about how they beat the game faster. I hate when people do that.

In my opinion, cheats can definately add replay value. Let's say you've beaten a game(or perhaps, never beaten a game) and grown bored with it. Cheats can definately add some spice to the "relationship". My two cents...

yes, cheats can add spice to games, but at a price, they are good to use when you beat the game and replaying it, but when you first buy the game, and want to use cheats, you can get addicted to it, and you won't really know the difficulty of the game, everything will be too easy

I use cheats but not infinte health that bores me. I say if you need a cheat that lets you be immortal you shouldn't be playing a game of that difficulty.

I just use cheats only after I've beaten a game. If you use it before you've beaten a game, there's no point in playing, or even buying the game. A game should be played for your enjoyment and to challenge yourself.

cheats are a touchy subject, but I say are meant to be fun and if you've beaten a million times or its just not fun theres no real harm in it, also if you don't use a cheat to get farther in a game its fun as well, like GTA you can spawn a tank and just run around blasting the crap out of everything, then when you want to get back to missions you enter Lower wanted level, then start a mission.

Sometimes, the right cheat applied for the right amount of time can get you over a hurdle and lets you continue enjoying the game. However, keep that cheat on for two long, and you don't get the same sense of fulfilment when you beat the game.
Nice reference to that James Bond medal thing. Theme Hospital of old complained when you applied cheats, and Rise of Nations won't let you "cheat win" through the Conquer the World Campaign - it calls you "X of the Cheaters" at the end.
However, I agree that sometimes cheats give replay value to a game; to get to a certain level in a hurry, etc. So I'm really in two minds about the whole thing, and I think it's a personal preference.

I like to use cheats AFTER I beat a game so I can easily look for easter eggs and stuff. I did this with WarCraft 3, for example.
Also, I enjoy games like Goldeneye where after you beat the game you can try to earn cheats. I found this effective and often fun. It took me forever to unlock invincibility...

cheats are made for teh end of the game, not anytime else, like in one of the Duke Nukem games, there is a little cave that is completely unaccesible without cheats, and when you fly up to it, a message tells you how much of a cheater u acctualy are, then throws a really tough monster at you.
So, the balance of cheats and hard work, the modern day Yin and Yang (im a buddist) give it an almost Zen like quality when just the right combination of cheats and work are used.

Yes, for certain some games are much better with cheats especially if the game is almost impossible. An example would be Rainbow Six for Xbox. However I use cheats only after I've beaten a game unless the difficulty of the game is like Rainbow Six on normal.

Yeah, I can't help but use cheats with almost every game. As long as I CAN cheat (have cheating devices or codes for a game) I almost always do. The only games I like using cheats are on RPGs that have good storylines but I can't play easily and the only thing I want is to find out what happens in the end.

Well anyway I've got some question. Are the codes in Codebreaker can be input in Gameshark series? Like for an example. I've seen one cheatcodes in the codebreaker site. e.g. Xenosaga II. it says that it was appicable in Codebreaker. My point is can i use those code in Gameshark version?
(I'm planning to buy a new cheatcode CD but I dont know what to buy, either Gameshark/Codebreaker. Since my Gameshark CD is broken last November)

I think you should beat the game at least once before you use cheats. Unless you can't beat a level and you have been trying to beat it for around 1-3 months. I'm having trouble with one of my games. I tried to use cheats, but they never worked. The game is T.H.U.G. for gba. It's called HELP WITH SLAM JAM CITY. If anyone knows how to help please go there in the TONY HAWK PRO SKATER SERIES.

I used the levatation cheat in the Ocarina of time for fun purposes like going in the sky as long as possible and waiting for me to come down and not get hurt at all. Plus fing out that all levels are floating I used walk through almost anything cheat and entering the great Deku tree I jumped. So when I jumped I stood still and fell and fell and fell until it was like falling down a bottomless shaft and the game did the thing where you get reset back at where you started with one heart gone. lol

Well, it depends on the game and what its like. I cheated for over 10 years and still do on some games. I like to cheat alot sometimes, however when I first play it I don't. Its like 50-50. 50% cheats rock and the other half, I would play without them. However a true master in video games knows that whether he is a good or bad player. The true Masterchampion of all games just has fun and doesn't give a darn on what people think of him whether he cheats or not. I say cheats can be fun for some and annoying for others or 50-50(like me) for the rest.

Can someone honestly, and i mean honestly, name some one who beat GTA San Andreas without using a single cheat? I used them, and i still died a bunch of times, thats how hard it is sometimes. It's really fun when you use the code that sends vehicles flying into the air when you touch them with your car. If you spawn a Harrier and tap it with a car and get in it before it flies into space, you will literally fly so friggin fast you won't even need to press the gas. In fact you fly faster, especially upward. I let my plane fly straight up for 4 straight game days, and when i got out i fell down for an hour, in real life time, and i was diving, not just falling.
Also, has anyone used the Infinite healt and/or magic codes for God of War? If youre knocked down by Ares you will never be able to get back up (during Ares 2nd stage). I don't know why, but he just won't get up.

Heheheh. That's a funny thing. I did that, but it didn't go super fast in the air, but it was like there was no gravity. I was flying straight up, when I got out, I was standing on the side of my jet. Then I moved and fell off and died. I tried to get on a motorcyle, it was successful, then a stupid plane hit me and I got sent flying off for a LONG time. I love to put on flying cars, where you drive and fly. Get on top of a car, then pound on the roof to piss them off to where they speed, then it slowly takes off into the air. Free ride, one time the car hit a billboard, and I got sent flying off to my doom.

I agree; GTA codes really add to the game. But San Andreas is a prime example why not to use codes; Rockstar did good and made the infinite health code almost unusable by making you only bulletproof, and the little glitch where in the Madd Dogg mission Madd Dogg jumps off the roof in just a few seconds (making the mission and game unbeatable) if you've used more than 500 cheats. I was so scared by that glitch, 'cause I started that mission, checked my stats, and had used 499 cheats EXACTLY (I kid you not) on my second playthrough, which was more complete than my first "bare run" (where I played through the game completing only the required elements). My $0.02, so that means I have $0.98 left for use on these boards. For the math impaired, that's 49 more posts containing my opinion. lol

Well cheats don't always take the fun outta First person shooters....the Star wars: Dark Forces as an example, with the invincibility code you can run around punching the heck outta people. When you face upward while punching and enemy, Mostly, they'll fly up and not come back down for at least a couple of seconds....

ok sure some codes push the limit of TOO easy but if it is too easy it is the players choice to let it suck the fun out, i mean ok ive seen codes to make games actually harder, and did you ever think of just turning off the codes or maybe putting the simple codes on, like myself i prefer not to cheat till ive beat a game, then maybe ill turn on like things like inf money, inf ammo, blah blah things not like NEVER DIE! ONE HIT KILL! ULTRAMEGA WORLD DESTROYER BUTTON ACTIVATE WITH R2! *laughs* make your games fun waste of money if YOU LET the fun get sucked out :) its a game which means you're ment to have fun with it do so! ^.^

Well, well, what an interesting topic!
Cheats are fun, I won't deny it; they help you do stuff in the game you won't be able to do in your "normal stat". But just like a lot of you said before, it sometimes takes the fun out of a game. Especially when you haven't tried hard enough to pass a level and use a cheat to pass it. You are basically wasting a lot of fun (and pride) you could have, and also wasting your money. Yes, what's the point of easily beating a game you spent money for. You should enjoy it as much as possible.
However, at time, it becomes inevitable to use cheats. I mean take the example of "Monster Hunters Freedom" on PSP. I can't freaking pass the second level where you have to beat a Wyvern or whatever they are called. I mean COME ON!!! What on earth do I have to do?? it makes me hate the game. I have tried and tried until I just gave up on playing the game. In this type of situation, for example, using a cheat can bring the fun back to the game... even if Monster Hunters Freedom doesn't have any
So well, cheats are good ONLY when you use them to have fun or bring the fun back in the game.

Long answer:Pokémon is probably one of the games with the most hackers and with people that dont hack(like me and some others) the people that hate hackers the most. And i had a hacked Arceus through a trade and i released it asap.I hate hackers because they max out their Pokémon's stats then battle people through Wi-Fi.I hate hackers more than people who use uber teams. And hacks take all the fun out of games except Twisted Metal and then you screw around. But people who hack in Pokémon dhould not even play the game.I mean they hack a shiny and take all the worth out of a legitamentely obtained shiny's of the same Pokémon. And i also hate people who hack to get infinite rare candies, but they are losing just as much as a person who lvl up their Pokémon to lvl 100 and i mean that by time for the latter one because in the end the stats suck unless you use a code to make all their stats 999.
Short answer:Yes i do think hacking sucks and takes all the fun out of games.
And yay for Nintendo for trying to stop people hacking/glitching. They are trying to get developers to try to stop making the games hackable, and for the GS/AR companies to stop making AR/GS for Nintendo consoles and i hope they succeed.

The thread was tl;dr. :link:
Me? I NEVER cheat or use codes for an RPG. Sucks the fun right out of playing the game or finally killing that boss that's hard then the final boss. I'm looking at you, Omega Weapon. This really applies for shooters, too. Sure, I get frustrated when I'm scrambling around with no ammo, low health and no prospects. But, that's half the fun. Improvising. I used cheats a lot as a kid, but then games got too easy or too boring.
So, I play cheat free. All the time. Every time.

I don't know if I have said this before...as I am too lazy to check but, I refuse to cheat the first two times I play a game. The first time, I play through...and have fun...the second, I beat it 100% and if I just want to joke around, I create another save for cheating...unless it's a godly game that I love..then no matter what, cheating cannot happen.

The only games that I enjoy using cheats are the Grand Theft Auto series, and that's only to do the fun stuff, not god mode, or helping me beat a mission. Cheats do take the fun out of games.

Any civil cheater knows the two basic rules of cheating.
1)If you are stuck in a place you cannot get out of, or in a mission you cannot do, cheats are a respectable way out.
2)All cheats are fine after a game has been done FULLY. 100%. (Unless you are playing TW, where it is 200%).
Apart from that, yes, it does take the fun out of it.

They make the game too easy and not fun at all. It kind of makes you feel like not playing the game anymore. =[

It depends on the cheats. Yes, cheats like one-hit kills and all that do kinda take the fun away, but when I use codes it's usually to play as unavailable characters or do fun stuff that would be normally impossible without an AR.

One thing is if you urgently NEED money in a game and you can't think of any thing that would give you any then you use a cheat and you have too much money and you can't spend it all... its like all the money or no money...thats sad...

Most of my friends just ask for codes because they would not like to grind, me myself hate to grind so if you want to enjoy the story without the loathsome of grinding there is an alternate solution . . . ^_^

I know that cheats are fun in some games, but sometimes, don't they just take the fun out of stuff? Like when I got the Doom Collection, I played in fun for a while then I couldn't resist the temptation, but to try out some cheats, then before I knew it, everything was too easy, soon I was bored of the games because of cheats, and other games can have the fun sucked out of them also, do you think some cheats take the fun out of the game?
hi guys if cheats were made only to make the game easy why do we have to go though the ealier things to get into cheating the game anyways like X-men the game on ps2 you know i had to do that to beat the game without gamesharks but im really wanting the codes because there not out yet or made so if anybody have some plz let me know ok on my post ok:)

I personally am against cheats, especially for the type of games I play (translation: Harcest Moon and RPGs). In Harvest Moon, the game barely has a point as it is, and if you take that out by using a cheat for items or money, you're just waiting around, day after day, waiting for your food processing/milking room/seed maker/chicken coop/whatever to get finished. Fun fun.

I have to use codes.
How else will I know if mine work, or how to fix them so they do? :P
Playing games in general just doesn't feel as fun any more. I usually make codes that change game play into something more innovative and just leave them on whenever I play.
Example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBg00832C4w).
Remember, kids:
Good codes never have to be turned off.

I like to cheat, but I always play a game before cheating on it, even if I get really stuck (FFX for example, I got stuck on Mt. Gagazet untill I stumped up enough cash for Yojimbo).
Even though I dont use cheats on games before I complete it I do not agree people who cheat first playthrough shouldnt buy the game and that its pointless, why is it pointless in many RPG's its like a book which you can control, i.e. its for the story.
If people want to cheat, fairplay to them (or unfair as the case may be lol).

I only cheat if it doesn't affect the game long term.
Like unlock cars and then I don't save or something..

quite possibly but for some users(normally the younger ones) like to be invincible with unlimited ammo. most true hardcore gamers hate cheats that make the game easy & take the true excitement out of it.

Ok? I consider myself a very hardcore gamer and I love using cheating devices. To me cheats put more excitement in a game.
On a side note, I don't cheat on all games. Like the Metal Gears; I have a strict policy about never cheating on a Metal Gear game. But other games such as GTA are more fun with cheats.
How many younger gamers do you know that know, that are able to make their own codes, as well as convert them? Not many, I bet. In fact, I would say more mature gamers use cheat devices than do younger ones.

The more mature ones do so because, at least for me, the newer games that are coming out now are seemingly harder when cheats aren't being used.
Also, when an old-skool gamer gets used to the newer games, then reverts back to the old-skool games, cheats help the old-skool gamer get back into the feel they had. At least, again, it does for me.
