As far as RPG's go.. Infinite Undiscovery is fun for a playthrough. It's a Square game.
and then Final Fantasy XIII someday, but that'll be a while.
And I don't think an xbox should be allowed to not have Fable 2 in it. That game is just fun. That would be my one definite, if you like RPG's.
The Eye in the Sky!
November 18th, 2008, 12:55 AM
What is Fable like? Is it like a free roam RPG or something?
And I'll probably get FF13 on PS3 just because I'd been planning that.
Cluck.
November 18th, 2008, 01:30 AM
Yeah, fable is pretty much free reign to do whatever you want.. lots of side quests and exploring, which is always fun. Not to mention character alignment and customization based on your actions.
And yes, I do think Final Fantasy should be on PS3 only.. That's one of the few things Sony ever did right.. they should have just called keepsies.
But then again, I can't complain too much, this means i'm not going to have to spend $500+ to play it.
(This is way out there, but remember those album reviews you used to do? Do you still have any of them? I got brought on to a blog, and they want me to do music reviews.. and the format of those stuck out in my mind.. if you still have one saved some where post it or aim me.)

We used to have a power metal club where we had reviews in it, but I think it got purged. Basically, the format for the reviews was as follows:
List the band name and album. Give a brief overview of the band/album. List the songs, and assign a point score to each one out of 10. Review the album. Give a total score out of 100, which isn't calculated by the scores you gave to the individual songs. Of course, you can give this format modifications, but that was the general idea we used.

Hehe, split. (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574716)
I listened to some of Edguy's album on Youtube last night and it is pretty good. "Dragonfly" and "Speedhoven" are best I think. "Ministry of Saints" is up there too.

I forgot about that website... it looks like the only way to actually import it cheap enough to be worth while. I'm not sure if I want to spend more than $25 on a CD though.

Tinnitus Sanctus was delivered to me Monday, but I haven't had a chance to listen to it all yet. What I have heard so far is good though. More to come.

*Everyone is sitting in the kitchen eating*
Eye: This crap tastes like crap.
BigDaddy: That's because you're in the bathroom.
Eye: The what room?
BigDaddy: Bathroom.
Eye: Bath what?
BigDaddy: Bathroom.
Eye: What what?
BigDaddy: Fine, continue eating crap.
*BigDaddy walks into the kitchen*
BigDaddy: I bet you can't finish everything on the table, Cole.
Cole: Oh yeah? I eat pieces of sh*t like you for dinner.
BigDaddy: You eat pieces of sh*t for dinner?
Cole: ...No!
Cluck: This stuff is so good I could eat forever!
Bob Barker: I think you've had enough... bitch.
*Barker punches Cluck in the face*
Cole: Nice shot, Bob. I'd bet you'd like to do that on Lets Make a Deal.
Barker: First of all, its the Price is Right. Second of all, I do-
Cole: God, I didn't ask for your life story.
shortkut: And now for something completely different!
*At the Wendy's Dumpster*
cheezy: Wow, lots going on in there. Find anything interesting?
Rick: Well, it looks like we have Plaxico Burress' uniform... the Viking's defensive line... the BCS... and what looks like a fight between Matt Leinart, Vince Young and Tavaris Jackson over the last taco.
Zing: cheezy! Wait, I did it backwards!
*Back in the club house*
Eye: This club seems empty now.
Barker: Indeed.
BigDaddy: I say we do something to bring back some excitement!
Cole: Then it's decided! We will have a celebrity softball game in Bob Barker's memory!
Barker: I'm not dead.
Cole: Oh, you will be.
shortkut: And now for something entirely different!
Eye: Stop doing that.
*At the baseball field*
BigDaddy: Okay, who did you get for celebrities?
Eye: Well, I got some guy named Happy Gilmore playing Adam Sandler, some guy named Billy Madison playing Vicky Valencourt, another guy named Sonny Koufax playing Denzel Washington and this weird guy named Robbie Hart that claims he does a great Sheryl Crow impression.
BigDaddy: You were supposed to find real celebrities.
Rob Schnieder: I'm a real celebrity!
Eye: Beat it, whack job. This guy won't leave me alone. He keeps asking for supporting roles where he plays the same character over and over.
BigDaddy: Sounds like that guy that acted with Adam Sandler. What was his name?
Schnieder: It was me!
BigDaddy: I think it was Oprah. Anyway, let's get the game started.
Cole: Man... this reminds me of so many memories.
Eye: Like what?
*Cole turns around and starts daydreaming*
Eye: Cole? Cole!
shortkut: And now for something ent-
*Eye starts beating kut with a bat*
*Back at the club*
Realm: Hey, where did everyone go?
Ash: I think they went to play baseball.
The Rioteer: No, they went to play softball.
Ash: I swear to god.
Realm: It's a good thing I need to go to the bathroom again!
*Realm runs off*
*Back at the field*
BigDaddy: We don't have enough players. We're going to have to postpone the game.
Eye: Eh, let's just start picking players. You're up first.
BigDaddy: I'm picking Cole.
Eye: I'll get... uh...
*Dustin Pedroia walks by*
Eye: Dustin Pedroia!
Pedroia: Hooray, I'm not picked last again!
BigDaddy: D'oh! I'll take... Happy Gilmore.
*David Ortiz walks by*
Eye: I got Ortiz!
BigDaddy: Dammit. I'll take that Rob Schnieder guy.
*Mike Timlin walks into the field*
Eye: I'll take Billy Madison.
BigDaddy: shortkut, my team.
Eye: And I get Sandy Koufax.
Timlin: Guys, I'm playing!
BigDaddy: I got Robbie Hart. You get Timlin.
Eye: No, I'm going to play a man short.
Timlin: Come on, guys! I can hold everyone's gloves really well! I'll wash you're cars too!
Cole: Get off the field!
*Timlin sits down next to Jon Lester*
Lester: At least they just hate you. They kept laughing at my cancer.
Eye: Well, I don't really know how to end this RP but you have been surprisingly competent today, BigDaddy.
BigDaddy: I know, it's scary.
Eye: Alright, let's get out on the field.
*BigDaddy stands there looking stupid*
Cole: You shouldn't have said that. He's just like a no hitter... never talk about something until the end.
*The Rioteer flies in tied to a pink bomb*
Cole: ...Touche.
*The bomb explodes killing everyone but Mike Timlin*
Timlin: Hooray! Who is the unlucky loser now?!
*Phone rings*
Timlin: Hello? ...The Royals? Of course I'll sign!
*End*

If you just heard a loud cheer coming from the Kansas City area, this is why: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3771725
Carl Peterson has resigned from the Chiefs and will step down after the season. Everyone has been wanting this for a while. Hopefully the Chiefs' rebuilding efforts will benefit from this. We just need to find a good GM to replace him. Rick, do you know of any available GM's that have experience with losing teams?
Edit: Oops, I meant to post this is in the NFL discussion thread. Eh, it works here too.

Its almost Christmas but it doesn't feel that way. I hope I get some nice stuff for Christmas (Prince of Persia for PS3 and Lego Star Wars) and we better have lots of food.
What do you guys want for Christmas (except Cole of course because he is the wrong kind of person)?

I think I'm getting Simpsons season 3. I saw a present that's shaped exactly like my Seasons 4/5 sets, so that's pretty cool. Homer at the Bat's gonna be the first episode I watch if I do get season 3.
Besides that, there's nothing really much I want. Mainly because I'll be way too busy the next four months to put any of it to use anyway.
The Eye in the Sky!

You don't have Season 3? That's sad... so many amazing episodes in there. I frequently go back to watch episodes and listen to commentary on seasons 3-6 with 3 being the most used.
Does this mean we will get to see more images in the rotator?

Yeah, probably. Thinking of revamping the rotator, too. Making the images 160 in height and getting the text to be readable, stuff like that.

If I can be honest with you, if you're going to redo it entirely, I'd bump up your criteria on choosing them. I love your rotator, it inspired my Futurama one, and the Simpsons movie one, afterall. But some of the images don't always look super.
If you need help deciding which to go with, you can always shoot me an IM. I can look through them with ya.
The Eye in the Sky!
December 19th, 2008, 12:20 AM
I like the massive quantity of them... even the ugly ones remind me of the jokes and that is all that matters to me.
BigDaddy
December 19th, 2008, 01:50 AM
Yeah, I love the variety that the large quantity brings. All of the images are good.
Rick52
December 22nd, 2008, 08:42 PM
Yeah, I don't mind if some of them don't look quite right at 300x140 (or now 300x160), but each one still gets a chuckle out of me.
On that note, yeah I've decided to revamp, already uploaded some of it and made it my sig. Got Season 8 redone the past couple of days, actually ended up with 146 images from that season alone.
There's the normal no text (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/065.jpg) ones, as usual these make up more than half of the images.
Then, the text ones. Eye's past two signatures gave me a great idea as to how about it, which was to basically do what he did, but with 200 less width!
Doing the text in a couple of ways. For short one liners, I just put the text at the bottom (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/014.jpg). Slighty longer dialog or a short convo is pretty much the same thing (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/043.jpg). Lengthy text I try to put on the side (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/010.jpg).
With two images I'm trying something really different, and I'm only using these in instances where there's way too much text for 300x160 to fit a decent picture in as well. Like, take the scene where Wiggum basically gets Sideshow Bob arrested for no reason. The first part I can fit both in (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/088.jpg), barely, but the rest of it no way. So, I tried putting the text onto a GW beige background then laying it onto a 300x160 image. This was the result (http://h1.ripway.com/Rick52/thesimpsons/089.jpg), and I probably could've worked on the spacing of the lines, but whatever.
Also the images are still jpegs. I tried them out as png's, like what Cole and Eye did with their Futurama/Simpsons movie rotators, but the images looked just awful on pngs with small enough filesizes to not break the limit rule. But at the very least, I can guarentee that these jpegs are of a higher quality than the ones from the previous rotator.
Coleman
December 22nd, 2008, 09:11 PM
I know it might be a hassle to go back and redo it, but you might try getting the filesizes closer to 25KB. 5KB can make a difference. I don't know if you know it exists, but there's an "Optimize to File Size" feature in Photoshop. Just enter a number such as, 24.5 (which is what I used, to allow a buffer just in case), and it'll make the image look best while reducing it to that size.
Looks like you have most of yours around 20KB and the few extra KB might make an improvement.
Rick52
December 22nd, 2008, 09:33 PM
I don't have Photoshop. I'm actually using a program called Paint.net, which has a decent amount of features. Can't compare it to photoshop, though, having never used the latter. Also don't tell me to get photoshop. :-\
Paint.net does come with a feature to change a file's size when saving, but the way it uses it is, apparantly, not like photoshop. It has an option to change a jpg's quality from 100% (which is fine) to 0% (looks awful). Usually having it at 90% keep it well under the filesize limit while making it look nice enough, boosting it even to 100% (which varies from 35kb to 45kb usually) hardly ever creates any significant change.
Coleman
December 22nd, 2008, 09:46 PM
That is actually how Photoshop does it, for the most part. But the optimize to file size feature adjusts things like color balance (after all, most images don't use the entire color spectrum so they limit it to the necessary colors), pixelation and other things.
All of the images in both the Futurama and Simpsons Movie rotator were done that way and they ended up coming out fairly well.
The Eye in the Sky!

I like the new idea since it adds variety. I'd do more but kind of like to keep one gag in place for a while.

Would it be possible for one of you to get a screenshot of the quote in my sig and make a nice looking sig out of it? It's from Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington in Season 3. I'd also like to get one of "Just stamp the ticket" from When Flanders Failed in Season 3. If I could find enough quotes like that, I could make a "random angry Simpsons character" rotator. Another one that could go in it would be from Duffless in Season 4 when the guy tells his son to get away from his science fair project. "I've worked too long and hard on this for you to screw it up! Go stand over there... over there!"

So I posted what I got in CV in picture form for Christmas. I'm also getting Edguy's Tinnitus Sanctus and Rush's new DVD coming in the mail soon. The CD had to be imported from Germany so it might take a while but I am getting it!
What did everyone get?
BigDaddy
December 25th, 2008, 04:22 PM
I got a $20 gift card to Best Buy, a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart, a $5 bill, a couple shirts, a $100 bill, a $30 gift card to Kohl's, and a few pairs of dress pants. When you don't ask for anything specific, you get gift cards, money, and clothes, but there's nothing wrong with that.
Eye, I saw that you got Mountain Dew pajama pants. Too bad they don't have Heee Haw pajama pants. Heee Haw is Hy-Vee's (a midwestern grocery store chain) version of Mountain Dew.

YAY! Someone else to play with Tom and I!
Get GTA IV, LittleBIGPlanet, and MLB 08, in terms of actual games.
Then you should get Crash Commando on PSN. (That'll make more sense when you get it.)
To get online you need nothing more than you do for your computer. Router, modem, whatever. PS3 has an ethernet port as well as WiFi capabilities. And it's free.

I'd recommend waiting for MLB 09 since Cole and I are going to be tearing that game up when it comes out.
Also, Crash Commando is $10 and so worth it.
