View Full Version : Name changes don't cost posts anymore.

It's been decided that we're no longer going to charge 1000 posts for a name change. This is due to the fact that the rule was put in place so that people wouldn't go overboard and change their name every day, since we only had one admin back then.

As we have 4 other admins (technically 3 :D), and both myself and VashTheStampede have had the power to edit names given to us. We don't feel that this penalty is required anymore.

However, if you're stupid about it and DO change your name on a far too regular basis for our liking, you'll more than likely fall victim to a name change you didn't ask for. ;)

LARGE ANNOYING ITALICISED NOTICE: Please posts your name change requests here (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=510).

How do you change your name?

Odd, I thought my post would of conveyed how this was done, even if you weren't "in the know" before... :D

Request it by posting what you want it changed to here (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=510) and either myself, Vash or an admin will change it.

What if we had our name changed about 1-3 months prior to this? Can we get our posts back?

Ben
May 18th, 2004, 08:11 PM
No, posts will not be refunded since a) not everyone who lost posts would think to request them back/even know they could and b) people could try and trick the staff into giving them 1000 posts.

I am one of very few (it would seem) never to have changed their name, and alas I never will. I don't see the problem with this as long we don't have eejits that change their name every month or so, although the admins seem to have that covered....

Prolly not, as that I don't think was ever an issue for Al or the other admins.

Ben

No custom titles. I think it's going to be hard enough to convince Al to let me keep the name changes completely free. Hence why I may have to start being a little stricter if people go crazy with them. I don't mind, it's just he thinks there should be some form of a stop-gap in place.

I wanted that post ya know:sad:....but if you saw fit:shrug:

Yea, I think free is kinda good, only for a certain period of time though, so that people get their names right, and suitable, and stay with it, then the 2nd or 3rd name change should start being charged 1000 posts. What do you think.

I don't mind keeping the names free indefinately, I just forsee a problem if people start asking for them every week or something. Once every month or so would be acceptable, and I doubt people would ask for them that much, anyway. Those who do should be banned ;)

And your post was making things look messy... Shush ^_^

how come I get one free? I'm not a mod, and I don't have 10,000 posts.

uhhhhhh, maybe you should change your name to stupid man supa-man. just click on the link in the first post and make a new thread asking for a name change. that admin has already said the at least five times!!!!!

I'm liking this. I've never changed my name since I've been here, and I was thinkingh about changing it. Now all I have to do is my GW friends what my new name's gonna be.

Sorry for the DP, but supa, there is no such thing as a free CT. You are allowed a CT after being at GW for exactly 1 year or more. Nobody has ever payed posts for them.

:hmm:...Perhaps you should? I was refering to the CT question, you get a CT after 1 year of being here, or 10,000 posts. You've been here for more then 1 year, thus creating your CT.

Post places, without SPAMming, since then you'll get banned by yours-truely.

Press keys, hit submit. Telepathy is, unfortunately, less effective.

Damn you guys charged 1,000 posts for a name change?

Haha, I remember back when it was only mods who changed their names, and regular members really weren't allowed to. GW has changed alot since I left, hah.

I had my first name change in July 2001. All I did was PM Al ( He was the only Admin at the time. ) and ask for a name change. It was free, too.

Name changes for members were somewhat allowed. You couldn't get too many name changes, though.. that would get him mad. ;) Then, too many members wanted to get their name changes, so, they started charging 1,000 posts for a name change. ( For Non-Mods only, Mods were free. ) And, it have been like that for a long time.
There ya go, almost 3 years of Name Change history.

I've changed my name about 4 times in the course of my history here [ all were free ]. But I don't I'll be changing my name anymore. And people complain that they lost 1k posts, but that's the price you pay.

You wouldn't mind giving up 1k posts to change your name but now you make so much noise.
