Goku, being the only one capable of aming anyone an official updater anyway, will make a thread about it if he determines we need another one. Don't ask to be one until he's looking.

I think more Pokemon should be put into the Adoption Center more often. I suggested a couple Pokemon, and I didn't even get a reply as to if they were suitable for future adoption updates. >_> The last Pokemon was adopted on Feb 2ed . . . And now it's the beginning of April. Please update the Adoption Center? I want to adopt a Pokemon. ^_^
Alice!
April 5th, 2006, 12:58 AM
The adoption center only really comes into play when someone either gives up their pokemon or announces that they are leaving. Or, very rarely, a few get put in there at random.
Back at Gaia when people were inactive I'd actually remove their dex and put all their pokemon up for adoption, which made it seem really active. Since this is a forum, and not a guild, that's not really practical, especially because there are no set limits on how many people can join, so inactive people just sort of fade away into nothingness.

I think you should Update Everything, Like Forum Rules, Egg Hut, Poke Mart, Get rid of the Pokemon Salon.
Alice!
April 16th, 2006, 02:06 AM
Pulse, I think you need to realize that the egg hut doesn't need updating, the salon needs to stay in case someone who needs it realizes it exists, and the mart doesn't need updating either.
As for the forum rules, you actually do have a point there. I'll tinker with it a bit. Tinkered with. Just some small things changed, like names and starters level. Codeboyx4 did the damn thing in HTML, so I couldn't really make big changes even if I wanted to.

I think we should get this updater competition on the move so's we can get a bit more activity back up in this forum. I just saw like 10 names of peopl who'd have joined if we had more updaters and I would've personally updated all of them. I just wanna see this place hoppin', that's all.

I dont mean any disrespect or anything....but We have only 1 active Moderator, Linux, I've been coming in here and watching him do everything from updating, to making new updators. I havent seen Goku even interact with this forum since Ive been here. This is no meaning for disrespect Im just saying.....
Alice!
May 7th, 2006, 09:37 PM
Goku does more "behind the scenes" type work. A lot of that has to do with activity, I'm more active than him, as well as actually being an updater, so I have the opportunity to be seen a lot more. Besides, having only one active moderator isn't a problem, Goku was doing just fine before I got accepted as a mod. The point of a mod is really to keep troublesome people at bay, and in all seriousness, with few exceptions, this forum barely needs a mod other than for splitting.

Gym Leader Castle stays because that's just how it's always been. I'd prefer if all the Kanto / Johto / Hoenn leaders were in one thread, but this is how Goku wants it, so this is how it's going to be.
And I know what you mean about the errors, I noticed them a lot before I became a mod, and could never do anything about it, but I haven't started anyone new since then, so I just forgot about them entirely. I might get around to fixing them up later tonight.

We should be able to learn Emerald/Fire Red Leaf Green Move tutor moves at the move tutor. Will we ever be allowed to do this?

May 30th, 2006, 11:15 PM
Okay, Purple, I'm a bit confused here. On the forum front page, it says the last post in "Is there an advertiser in the house?" is by Pulse, but going into it reveals that you have the last post. The name change system is buggy, and I figured it was just a name change, but your post here and the fact that your user notes says you were changed from Ronoc are confusing me. Not to mention Pulse's sig nuke is in there....
Clarification please.
We should be able to learn Emerald/Fire Red Leaf Green Move tutor moves at the move tutor. Will we ever be allowed to do this?Possibly. I've got some other things to worry about first, but I'll keep it in mind. I did it at Gaia and it seemed to work just fine.

Ok, haven't looked through the thread so don't know if it's been asked, but here goes.
When the pokemon reach the set level to evolve (eg: Squirtle --> lv16 --> Wartortle). Do they evolve, or do you ask us if you want them to evolve. Because I was thinking, why don't we have it set that once the pokemon reaches the level to evolve he can evolve at anytime and at any point just like in the show. So say your Squiritle is at lv22 and is battling a...I dunno, a Bellsprout and is lossing. Mid battle, just as it's about to lose you say you want it to evolve (in your dex of course) then the updater posts him evolving into Wartortle and then from there, battle won :D
Just a suggestion, but to me it seems like a good idea.

Cannibal3rd, that's a solid idea. Unfortunately, the updater doesn't always keep track of the levels of pokemon his updatee has, so the duty mainly falls to the user. As for the mid-level evolve thing, just ask Rip. I let him do it during his gym battle, so ya'll can go ahead if you really want to.

Ok, a few questions here:
1) Do your spare pokemon (the ones that aren't in your party) go to a PC like in the game or do they go to a ranch like Oak's place? I realise this doesn't make any sodding difference to anything, but I'm a sad, bored individual who has nothing better to do than to see how realistic I can make my story. :)
2) The move tutor, in the first post it explains about moves missed through evolution (like Cloyster as said and possibly including Seedot/Nuzleaf and the rino/rina to the King/Queen), egg moves from breeding and forgetting moves...but what about actually learning them? I've been playing Emerald again recently and in it they have random people that teach moves, a person that teaches moves that they have learned and have been replaced etc, etc. But the move tutor part of Serebii.net confuses me because I've not seen anyone that makes them learn those moves. If there could be some clarification for this sad person then please give it... and I get confused easilly so if you coulde explain it as if you were talking to 4yr old that would be great :) (If you're wondering I'm gonna be 19 in just under 2mths so it is sad that I act the way I do.)
3) Since the confusion (heh, I made a funny considering what I'm gonna talk about :D) about what Goku said with the TM's I've been thinking. Since I got myself a Psychic egg and for some reason I expect a Spoink to emerge from it I've been doing some research and it turns out that it doesn't learn confusion (yes, here comes the little punny thing) and neither can it learn it by TM according to serebii.net... but only because there is no confusion tm on emerald/ruby/saphire so I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and assume I would be allowed to use the tm on Spoink (if I get one that is) as it's a Psychic move and the pokemon is psychic.
4) Hmm, gotta remember what this was... great, I had a 4th but my mum came in to ask me to research non-hodgkins lymphoma and 've forgotten what it was. :rant:
EDIT: Ignore what I said in part 4 (I realise I can delete it, but I'd rather leave it there so you people can laugh at me) as I've remembered my question. As I said before, I'm really picky about what I do in my file. If I get an egg I want to rp how i get it, when it hatches I want to RP that. If I adopt a pokemon I want to RP how I get it and if I trade a pokemon I want to rp the trade as well. Now, I also want to ask a question if I can use the pokedex to send pokemon to the pc/ranch if I don't want them in my party. I've never seen how it works in the actual show as I've only seen it once and that was when Ash caught Krabby and it just vanished. But I'd really like it if I could just use the dex to send them to where ever they go.
...you know, I've just realised how much of a sad b*stard I am... how funny. But when I join an RP I prefer to make my files more like I'm watching the actual show and hopefully give people the impression of knowing what happens and stuff when they read it.
Oh and:
5) What do you guys do about the evolutions that need trades and that need items to be traded with to evolve? (eg Kadabra/Alakazam, Onix/Steelix, Scyther/Scizor, Slowbro/Slowking, etc)
RipTide
June 29th, 2006, 02:22 PM
I can answer number 5.
You can find or get Link Cables in the RPG or sometimes it can be a special event at the Pokemart. All you do is have your pokemon touch it and they evolve, and you can re-use it over and over. For pokemon like my Steelix, the original pokemon needs to be holding the item (metal coat in this case) and then use the Link Cable and they will evolve. The held item, however, IS used up.
Cannibal3rd
June 29th, 2006, 02:29 PM
So you've got to get the cable and the item in your file then. Sounds interesting.
Alice!
June 29th, 2006, 07:27 PM
1) PC or ranch, it's up to the updatee to come up with that when they RP picking up their spare pokemon from a center.
2) You're talking about the people who offer to teach your pokemon moves, right? Serebii doewsn't have those moves listed, and I've never seen a site that does. It's irrelevant here because, if your updater decides to have one of them, he makes the decision on his own, not based off of the games.
3) No matter how obvious it may seem that a pokemon should be able to learn a move, always ask your updater. In the case you mentioned, I think I can safely say that every updater here would allow you to do that.
4) Simliar to the answer from one, it's up to the updatee to decide how stuff like that happens.
5) Covered by Rip.
Cannibal3rd
July 2nd, 2006, 01:26 PM
What I mean is that ON serebii there is two sets of moves listed and I'm confused about what they are. One is the Emerald Move Tutors and the other is the Fire Red/Leaf Green Move Tutors and was wondering what they were.
Also, another question that I could guess the answer too, but am not going too. When you collect all 8 badges in the region in the games you face the elite four, yet in the shows they go to a huge tournament. So I'm wondering if you can only face the Elite Four or whether you can do a tournament instead?
Also :D, god I ask a lot of questions, what about the 4 Seashell badges from the Orange Island... is that covered here or was it too small of an issue to really count here?

What I mean is that ON serebii there is two sets of moves listed and I'm confused about what they are. One is the Emerald Move Tutors and the other is the Fire Red/Leaf Green Move Tutors and was wondering what they were.The Move Tutors in Emerald and FR/LG teach different moves. Serbeii has both listed, but since we don't use Move Tutor moves, it's irrelevant here anyway.Also, another question that I could guess the answer too, but am not going too. When you collect all 8 badges in the region in the games you face the elite four, yet in the shows they go to a huge tournament. So I'm wondering if you can only face the Elite Four or whether you can do a tournament instead?As the current record for most amount of badges is one, I think we'll worry about that when and if anyone actually pulls off getting all eight badges. It'd probably be just fighting the E4, but it'd be up to the updater anyway, so anything could happen.Also :D , god I ask a lot of questions, what about the 4 Seashell badges from the Orange Island... is that covered here or was it too small of an issue to really count here?After someone got all eight badges in their region, they would have the option of going to either of the other two regions or going to the Orange Islands. I just made up that rule right now.
Also, questions are a good thing. It keeps everyone informed. And raises post counts.

Move Question = Yeah, I thought that might've been the answer. I guess you get all those moves in TM's if your updater is feeling nice :)
E4/Tourny Question = I'd like to do the tounrament personally as it would be cool to see what kinda of pokemon my updater would give to the opponent, but since most answers to questions are that it's up to to updater I guess we'll see when/if I get the badges or not.
Orange Island Question = I'm gonna guess you forgot about the Orange Islands?
Alice!
July 5th, 2006, 01:55 PM
Orange Island Question - After someone got all eight badges in their region, they would have the option of going to either of the other two regions or going to the Orange Islands. I just made up that rule right now.Basically, you can go to them later. Just not right away, because the odds of a beginning trainer to be able to Surf/Fly/whatever around to get to the different islands.

I know, I was asking if you had actually forgotten that the Orange Island exsisted until I mentioned them before was all :)
Ok, another random question and probably very meaningless...but it occured to me the other whilst trying to decide if May's Squirtle was stupidly small as I'm sure Ash's one is pretty big, but do the size of pokemon (their height in other words) matter here? Like when they hatch from eggs they stay small until they've grown and what not?
...I'm guessing you'll either say no or it's up to the updatee.
Alice!
July 5th, 2006, 05:26 PM
Rose's leaders in GLA:RPB remind me that they exist from time to time. When I read them.
As for the size of the pokemon...yeah. If you want specifically want an abnormally small or large pokemon, ask your updater. As long as it's not completely out there, it should be fine. Otherwhise, just go by the avergae height for the pokemon.

More questions coming atcha :D
1) HM moves. In the game yeah, obviously needed, but here are they really necessary? I mean if you think logically any pokemon can use fly as long as they're big enough to carry you over grea distances. This basically being the legendary bird, Skarmory, Pidgeotto... dunno, would that be it? Strength, well any pokemon big enough to move heavy stuff... so basically all the rock types like Graveller, Golem, Rhyhotn, Rhydon, Onix, Steelix...maybe the Nidoking and Nido Queen...or even the final forms of the starters. Cut... honestly when is cut ever conna be used in the rpg? If it ever does need to be, I'm sure any pokemon with claws can cut stuff...ok, I guess you see where my rant is going, so just wondering if you're using HM's here or not :)
2) Customising the look of our pokemon. Ok, not that I want to do this, but you know, would people be allowed to put like hats, glasses, jackets...bandana's and what not on their pokemon if they wanted? Like Harrison's (think it was him) Meowth. Yeah, another random one but I'm sure some people might like the idea of giving them pokemon some kind of personalised clothing.
...sure had a 3rd question but I think I'll stop for now. Most of these questions are getting quite sad and pointless :)
Mr. Blue!
July 6th, 2006, 09:12 AM
1) While HMs are mostly pointless (like I just had my Sneasel cut me out of a prison cell) they are still needed even if for battle.
2)That is totally acceptable in my pokedexes. In fact, I believe you can do it in the game as well (Blackglasses, Pink Scarf, etc.)
I thought I would help out.
Cannibal3rd
July 6th, 2006, 10:24 AM
Cut - Seems more like scratch to me and anything with claws could do this attack as just a bog standard thing so I see no point.
Fly - again, any pokemon with wings can fly, so there is no need to have something to teach it this and if they're big enough they can carry people on their backs so again, no need for it to be taught as a move as it's a technique. I mean you wouldn't see a Swellow carrying around some 15yr old kid would you?
Surf - Swimming...nothing else. Watch the show...it's swimming, not an actual attack.
Strength - Like I said, any pokemon with muslces and is just generally strong can do this technique so again, no need for it to take up an attack slot as it really is just common sense from pokemon.
Flash - Ok, maybe the only move that could be taught IMO. Fire pokemon like the Char's and Cyndaquil evos...basically any pokemon with flames they can manipulate. Maybe the Mareep evos with their ball tails. Most other pokemon would probably have to learn it.
Rock Smash - Common sense again really. Fighting pokemon, rock, ground...etc. No need for it to take up an attack slot.
Waterfall - Ok, now when is a pokemon really gonna go up a vertical waterfall? please.
Whirlpool - Now that it's an actual attack on R/S/E/LG/FR I guess this HM doesn't count anymore.
...yeah...as you see they're more common sense technique's rather than actual attacks and moves so if you lot do make people learn them then I'll live, but I really don't see any point. :)
Alice!
July 6th, 2006, 02:42 PM
In regards to HMs, it depends on what the updater would like you to do.
Cut - Some pokemon that you wouldn't think of as being able to slice things can learn Cut. (Lickitung, Aipom, etc.) In those cases, I'd make sure the pokemon had the move. In other cases, like Blue's Sneasel, they should be able to cut through stuff anyway.
Fly - Same as Cut. I'd make a Delibird learn Fly, but not an Altaria.
Surf - It is an attack. It creates a wall of water that hits the opponent. As an outside battle move, see above. Lapras wouldn't need it, but Horsea sure as hell would.
Strength - Same as above. Do you se a pattern yet?
Flash - Better damn well be taught to any pokemon that you expect to brighten up a cave. Unless, of course, they happen to be a Volbeat, Staryu, or anything else with a natural light. So it's really the same as the others.
Rock Smash - Same thing. Tangela woul need it, Granbull wouldn't.
Waterfall - This one there's no exceptions to. If you're going up a Waterfall, they need to have this move.
Whirlpool - Yeah. No HM for this anymore. But if you're stopping a whirlpool, they better have this move.
~~~
So basically, if a pokemon has a body/ability that would allow it to do the move in question, they don't need the HM. If they don't, then they do need it. Simple enough, really.
I just have some things to say and ask:
1) Q: You know Ash has Pikachu out with him on journeys. Are we allowed to have more than one Pokemon out? If so, how many is the max?
2) Sug: Pokemon have different personalities, so we should see them in a battle. For example, this trainer has a shy Phanphy. That means it should fight with attacks that have below average power, but should be more evasive and stronger in Defense. But when they are weak they should "switch" personalities, like the Phanphy being more assertive. You know, kind of like Pokemon Emerald's Battle Palace ( if you have the game).
3) Q: How does a Pokemon fight with a Held Item? From what I've read they can attack with both hands, be running at top speed, and still have the Item with them. It doesn't make sense to me.
You guys need to just be lax and play the game as a RPG, not like the video games. Things aren't as strict, so just have fun and RP the way you want to.
1) if you RP with your pokemon out, then do so. So many of you people just post what you want to do like "go to forest and look for pokemon." Sure, that's easy, but have some fun. Look at my poke'dex for example. I do little conversations and RPs in each of my posts (outside of battles.) So yeah, RP with your pokemon out. There's not really a limit, but the more pokemon out the more confusing...
2) Again, it comes to the way you RP. And it also matters on your updaters style.
3) Hm... ask Linux. Haha.
3) Hm... ask Linux. Haha.Ermh. In the event of items that aren't obvious (Pink Bow, Metal Coat) you can either. A) Glue the item to them, or B) just ignore it and not complain.
Held items are tricky in this sort of setting....
Glue? I don't think it would be easy to switch items, or for them to carry it around all their Pokemon life. But other than that, thanks for answering some of my questions. I appreciate it, both of you. ^^
Ok, another question about a pokemon evolution. I was going to ask about the Eevee and Pichu evo but I noticed the pokemon salon and it answered my question with me not needing to ask it, but there is still 2 evolutions that bother me.
1) Feebas -> Milotic by Max (or near enough) happiness.
2) Tyrouge -> Hitmolee (high defence), Hitmonchan (high attack), Hitmontop (equal defence and attack)
Please explain these too me :D
RipTide
July 10th, 2006, 02:45 PM
Feebas is actually maxed out beauty, not happiness. I'm pretty sure we just used the salon for all happiness/beauty evolutions.
However, I have no idea what to do about Tyrogue.
Jeffie!
Well, in the case of the game, it pretty much gets even gains for both on its way up. I had to use items to up its attack/defense so that I could get the different evolutions. Although, that is just my experience.
In the case of exact game stats and calculations, I'm not sure of quite how this whole deal works, but each pokemon has a stat that, when defeated in battle, the pokemon that did the defeating gains a bonus of said specific stat that the pokemon who was defeated by the pokemon that did the defeating, and when comes time to level up, EV's of said stat may or may not increase the pokemon that did the defeating's actual stats. Savvy? (Sorry, just went to see Pirates...)
But however though, (a mannerism of my Driver's Ed teacher (you're not the only suffering soul, Blue)) I'm not sure how EV's work completely, and/or if that whole deal could be simplified enough to be put into use purely to obtain different evolutions of Tyrouge.
This short ramble may have helped, and it may have wasted your time, but if it's the latter, please don't hold it against me. It was you who ultimately did the reading. I am only guilty of doing the writing.
Yeah, I know from the game that Tyrouge's stats stay level unless you use those carbos/iron/zinc things on it so that one of its stats does actually go higher. I was just wondering how they would do it here.
I thought of some kind of training dojo for pokemon allowing trainers to boost attack and defence like the salon, but only 1 pokemon needs that kind of stat boost unlike the happiness/beauty. So I dunno if that would work or not.
Dojo? Naw. If one of my guys managed to get a Tyrouge to Level 20, I'd look at the pokemon itself instead of worrying about abstract concepts such as stats. If the Tyrouge in question was violent and rushed into battle, it'd become Lee. If it hung back and let the opponent come to it, it'd become Chan. If it was an approximately even mix, it'd become Top. Simple, eh?
Not really, because people give commands depending on the pokemon they face and the moves the pokemon (Tyrouge and the opponent) know... so I don't quite see how that would work. :O_O:
So? Doesn't mean I can't generalize based on the multiple battles the Tyrouge would be in before becoming level 20. And if nothing else I can flip a 3-sided coin....
Ok... that's what YOU do, since you seen to have an endless supply of chance items around you :P, but what about everyone else? Wouldn't it just be wise to let the owner of the pokemon decide? (which is probably what would happen anyway therefore no need for me to have asked the question in the first place)
Also, selling items? Can that be done anytime or just like buying items do you have to be in a town with a poke mart before you can do that? I've not seen anything about it in any thread thus far.
...and, I'm sure I've seen this asked somewhere before, but can't find the post. When do the eggs get re-stocked? When ALL the eggs are sold... or when you (Linux) feels there is a need to?
I do have an endless supply of chance items! (used to play DnD) But I think that this is something that should be the updater's choice. I've told you how I'd do mine, and the other updaters should have their own ideas.
To sell you should be in a town with a mart, unless you happen to find someone on the routes who wants to buy/trade items.
I think there's a post about it in the split. At the discretion of whoever is currently running the Hut (aka, me) the eggs will be restocked as necessary.Yep. There was. I found it.
Quick question.
What is the purpose of genders? We don't have a breeding center or anything like that, so why have genders? Just curious.
Moves or abilites that cause Infatuation, so we don't have to refer to pokemon as "it and can instead "he, her, she, he, etc", as well as for the sake of being accurate.
I have a suggestion.
Have you ever wanted to post in someone Pokedex just to say, "Holy Sh!t. That was such an awesome move!" or "I wish that would happen to me." Well, I have. I think we need a Dex Discussion Thread where we talk about stuff that going on in other's and our own Pokedex. (Possibly turn post counts off in this thread.)
I dont think you can turn posts count off in a thread.
I do believe that you can. They did it in the list threads in the Star Wars: Universe Forum.
(Possibly turn post counts off in this thread.)I'm actually fairly certain you can't turn off post counts for a specific thread. As far as I know you can only do that to an entire forum/sub-forum. A discussion thread is actually a pretty good idea though. There's no need for posts turned off, as it's only one thread. If there was enough talk generated to warrant a sub-forum (which I highly doubt) it would have post counts turned off.BTW Blue Is my sig right?It's well within limits, if that's what you mean.
:P Hey everyone makes mistakes. Even I do. BTW Another suggestion, Can you clean out Trainer city? Like move the previous splits out?
Alice!
July 27th, 2006, 07:44 PM
I prefer not moving old splits to the Recycle Bin. Not only is it less work for me, but anyone who wants to look back at them will have a much easier time finding them if they're still in their original forum. All the active topics are stickied anyway, so they'll always be at the top, above the splits.
I have a suggestion. Would it be alright to link to the split dexes when they are split? It would make it a lot easier instead of diving through page after page of dead dexes and splits that aren't the one you're looking for.
