I Use a mixture of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Capoeira (Although many don't consider it a martial art), and TKD.
I am taught through Family and friends, so I don't have an official rank, although I have been at it for around 11 years now. I go to brasil sometimes to study with family, often times I just practice at the local Gym.

Oo wow, i didn't think we'd ever get there Gryph! Love to see progress happening in some old forums like these! Peace and continued good luck.
Recently i had to quit my style after attaining the rank of Second Degree Black Belt by the way. I didn't really wanna stop, but that's cool anyways.
If brazillian jiu jitsu wasn't so damn expensive i'd love to take that up, but so far i'm looking at some aikido.
--------------
It was great though, towards the end of my training, a chinese martial arts acrobat started using our gym to train in. I learned quite a lot, mostly unuseful in real life things, but useful for the world of martial arts. The most helpful thing he ever told me was when you're sparing, "Think of it like you're playing tag. Him with the better speed surely is going to win".
I also learned how to do a barrel kick, other wise known as a misty flip; a butterfly twist; back tuck or whatever you call it; and some other things...

Belt: 1st Degree Black Belt
Style: Tae Kwon Do
System: White, Orange, Yellow, Cameo, Green, Purplr, Blue, Brown, Red, Black.
When you get to purple, they start putting a recommended/decided stripe on your belt, so it takes two testings to get the next belt color.
When you get to red, its recommended, decided, then you get a "Black Belt recommended", and its half Black, half Red. Then after testing over the required material, you get the actual 1st degree.
Oh, Wasabi2u, does the butterfly twist have anything to do with a butterfly kick?

Black: ( which everyone get's on my case cause I don't like to wear - very uncomfortable )

The only thing that matters is Black, and aven then is only worn out of respect to who promoted you. I did karate a very long time ago, i was probably like 8 at the time, I didnt like it much then either, felt like a chore(my parents had just sort of forced us into it). Of course, now I'd be well up for it, but back then I wasnt. Now I have neither time money or motivation. I got upto my green belt (white, orange, red, yellow, green). I don't remember much of it, and when it comes to fighting, it usually only happens when I'm angry, and theres no order to fighting when the red mist has come down, I'm a mess. Now I think it'd be cool to do a martial art for the self discipline and keeping fit though.

A better option that a tree...get a piece of board and wrap it in twine (or small rope). It will provide a slight cushion, but it still hard enough to toughen your knuckles. It's also more convenient that hitting a tree since you can do it in-doors. You can also mount it on a wall.
