I got some movies from Kazaa and I could watch them perfectly, but them I installed Windows XP and some software were lost, and I now I can't see movies, I can only hear the sound, so does anyone know what's the most common software needed to watch movies? Thanks.

Sounds like a codec issue possibly.

I use K-lite, and a new version just came out... I think it's cause a new Div-X codec was released. The article on that is HERE (http://www.axisnova.com/articles/k_lite_codec_pack.shtml).

GO HERE (http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm), to download the K-LIte Codec Pack (http://doa2.host.sk/) and see if that's the problem.

I would assume it was stuck because there have been a few of these threads recently so Maj stuck it so he could contain them all in one place...makes sense to me anyway.

This is just for reference. Now the cops and copyright authorities are on the tails of downloaders. Try to get rid of illegal software or any other movies or songs which you downloaded for free over the internet or P2P sharing before the big shots come sending you a letter fining you $125,000 a song/movie/software.

Wrong. The RIAA is after the people uploading. And it's really only the RIAA. Also, the cops have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with copyright infringment. Seriously, if you're going to be all preachy up in this peice, get your facts straight.

Warning to kenn.tan for spamming. Yes, that's right, you broke a rule. Ironic considering your signature and the nature of your off-topic post.

On a related note, stop flooding my forum unless you have something better to add than SPAM or reiteration of the things already said. kthxbai

Don't ask for bootleg movies in a sticky topic that's being used as an example... We should castrate you for this...

Consider yourself warned.

The K-Lite Codec site updated their site and reordered things recently, this is the new link to get the codec.

http://doa2.host.sk/codecs/

Just click 'Download' on the left hand side menu, in the section entitled 'K-Lite Codec Pack'.

GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) is a useful little program that'll tell you what kind of codec a movie requires and wether or not you have it installed on your system.

Okay i'm posting the same question as i did in the Moderator Forum... By the way thanks 'Crazy Jamie' and 'PokeJoe' for your inputs, i tried doing that numerous amount of times but with no avail.

Anyways, i have recently downloaded 'Windows Media Player series 9' from the Microsoft Webpage specifically to watch movies that i find across the Internet. When i try to open a 'movie' link, it brings up Media Player and after a few seconds it comes up with this message:

Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline. As well as 2 options which are 'Close' or 'More Information'.

When clicking 'More Information' it comes up with this...

0xC00D1197: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your computer is not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again.
The path to the file is not valid. If you typed a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the Open URL dialog box, ensure that the file name is spelled correctly and the path to the file is correct, and then try again. If you clicked a link on a Web page, the link may not be valid.
The server is down or busy. Try again later.
Some network protocols in the Player are not enabled. Enable all network protocols, and then try again.
The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
To enable all network protocols
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
In the Streaming protocols area, select all the protocol check boxes.
To verify your proxy server settings
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
Verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
Note

If you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).
Error ID = 0xC00D1197, Condition ID = 0x00000000

I have tried to follow these instructions with no luck at all, is their a certain bit of software i'm missing? Because about 3 weeks ago i had the Original Media Player which came with the computer but i accidently overwritten the program with an updated Media Player which is this one.

If anyone can help me with this problem, i'll be greatly appreciated...

I am having trouble running a movie file, it is a .rmvb which I haven't heard of before...

Media player searches for codecs, but finds nothing, and says I have the latest version available. Quicktime won't open it at all. I downloaded realplay or something like that I think, and it didn't work either... What program should I use to get it working?

RedRooster
March 17th, 2005, 08:12 AM
That's a real player type of files. You get either get the real player at the official site www.real.com or get third party player called Real Alternative (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4094)

Real player is pure crap nowadays, so you would be better of with the third party one.

dr_st
March 17th, 2005, 02:52 PM
Just for the record, Real Alternative isn't a player - it's a codec set that allows you to play RealMedia files in any player of your choice, for example BSPlayer or MP Classic, which they include with the package.

And I agree completely - stay away from RealPlayer, RealOne or whatever it's called today.

You would need Quicktime 7.0 and the drivers. I believe that would work.

Ok, I know that this thread hasn't been posted in since October, but since it's stickied I figured it was a better approach than making a new thread and taking up space.

So here I go...

I can't play movie trailers with my Windows Media Player. I tried Yahoo and Comingsoon.net, but they don't work right. I plays the audio, but I get no video. I checked the properties of the program, and it's an ASX file. Now I've looked and looked for a codec designed to let my Media Player play asx files but I can't find anything. Either I really suck at finding stuff on the net or I just have know idea what I should be downloading. Can anyone help... please?

What version of Windows Media Play are you running? If you have XP, you might as well upgrade to 11 at this point. You'll want version 9 if you're running and older operating system. Another possibility, especially if you're only having difficulty watching streaming content, is that Internet Explorer could use some updates. Again, for XP, you might consider installing IE7. If I'm totally wrong and missing some details here, please fill me in.

You might trying going into WMP itself and tinkering with some of the settings in the Performance tab.

Fool's Requiem

I'm have WMP 11, and Explorer 7...

Which options should I change?

Holy crap... I fixed... the performance setting was on a Modem instead of DSL/ Cable. I thought I had to install a codec... I'm an idiot.:bashhead:

Thanks for your help SombraGuerrero... if it weren't for you, I would have never look in the performance settings again! :^:

this is off the current topic but it is still a problem about watching movies, so... my friend burned me a home video we made on a cdr. when i put it into my computer, the computer reads the disc but i can't watch the movie. all that is there is a bunch of files and folders. do i need a certain program or what?

Sombra
November 14th, 2007, 03:15 PM
Perhaps you could enumerate the files you see on the disc. If it is a VCD, you might need to manually open up Windows Media Player or some other player and play it that way. VCD's will not always autorun in quite the way they should.

So what would I need to play .mp4 files? I have Windows Media, Quicktime (some old version), and Media Player Classic... the only player that works is Classic, and that doesn't play visuals, just sound. I've installed ffdshow already...

Sombra
November 14th, 2007, 05:28 PM
Your best mainstream bet for MP4's is to upgrade Quicktime. If you want to go the open-source route, VLC will play everything under the sun, even videos that have been encoded with multiple codecs.
